November 2025

Announcing Dates for Kumoricon 2026

Kumoricon is excited to announce that we will once again be back at the Oregon Convention Center for 2026. The convention will be taking place November 13–November 15, and we look forward to seeing you there! Pre-register online for the lowest possible price.

Annual Meeting of the Membership and 2026 Elections

Our final membership meeting for the 2025 convention year will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11am. The meeting will be held entirely online and is open to the public. Additional participation is open to Altonimbus Members (Kumoricon staff).

The meeting will be streamed on two platforms: Kumoricon’s Twitch channel, and Kumoricon’s public Discord server. Both are open to the public. Viewing on Discord requires a Discord account and joining our server, and Twitch does not require an account.

We are using an electronic election format for director elections. Here is how it will work:

  • Voting for director elections will not occur at the annual membership meeting. Instead, voting for director elections will be open for 5 days, from Thursday, November 20, at 8:00pm, Pacific Time, to Tuesday, November 25, at 8:00pm, Pacific Time.
  • All members will receive emailed voting instructions closer to November 20. This email will additionally contain your ballot and will be sent directly from ElectionBuddy. It will not be an @kumoricon.org email address. Please check your Spam folder if you do not receive a ballot.
  • Members do not need to attend the annual meeting of the membership to vote.
  • Those who are unable to attend the meeting may watch the video replay on Twitch, and there will be time to watch it before the voting deadline.
  • Although we will continue to host live candidate speeches, Q&A, and comments during the annual meeting, we will not pause between each race to vote. We expect the meeting to be much shorter as a result.
  • Because voting is not part of a specific membership meeting, proxy voting is not allowed. All members have 5 days to vote and those interested in voting should directly cast their vote.
  • In order to reduce the chances of needing a runoff vote, voting will be conducted using approval voting, as specified in section 4.D.4.c of the Bylaws. In approval voting, members vote for as many candidates as the member approves of, with the winner being the candidate who receives the most votes, as long as it is a majority of votes cast. There will also be a “no confidence” option for all races.
  • We will use ElectionBuddy, a third-party platform, to vote for directors.
  • Votes on ElectionBuddy are anonymous. No Kumoricon staff, including the election tellers or moderators, can see who you voted for or whether you voted “no confidence”. (We can, however, see which members submitted a ballot at all.)
  • The vote counts for each candidate will be publicly published.
  • We will continue to host nominations, online Q&A, comments, and endorsements on the public Discord.
  • We will continue to create an archive of questions, answers, and comments on the staff website for those who do not have a Discord account.

Nominations began at the Rant and Rave meeting on the last day of the convention, and online nominations, and candidate Q&A, and endorsements, are now open on our public Discord. The ongoing nomination list, and full details about elections, are available on our elections page.

The elections will be for the following board positions, for annual terms:

  • Chair/President
  • Director of Infrastructure
  • Director of Membership
  • Director of Operations
  • Director of Programming
  • Director of Publicity
  • Director of Relations

Processes for member participation at the annual meeting are listed on our meetings page. If you have news to report during the meeting, you can email it to good.of.the.order@kumoricon.org.

A Note on Safety

Hello Kumoricon Family,

Throughout the year, many of you have reached out to us expressing concerns about safety and security this year in light of recent national events. Most recently, a federal appeals court issued a hold on one of the State of Oregon’s restraining orders against deploying the National Guard to the City of Portland. We take your concerns seriously and have been actively engaged with our partners at the Oregon Convention Center and our security vendor, United Security Services, to ensure that everyone has a safe, welcoming experience at Kumoricon 2025.

We were recently made aware of an area resource by the Oregon Convention Center that we would like to share with you, and we encourage you to utilize it during Kumoricon. The Convention Center District offers a Safe Connect Program, which offers walking escorts around the convention center area, in addition to providing regular patrols. This service is available throughout the surrounding area, extending north to the Crowne Plaza and as far east as the DoubleTree near the Lloyd Center.

Safe Connect Program map

This service will be available during the following dates and times:
Friday, October 31: 7:30am—1am
Saturday, November 1: 7:30am—1am
Sunday, November 2: 7:30am—6pm

Walking escorts may be requested by calling 971-710-4818, and a uniformed public safety coordinator will meet you within 15 minutes.

Your safety is our highest priority at Kumoricon, and we encourage you to follow these safety tips:

  1. Consider moving photo shoots inside the Oregon Convention Center.
  2. Travel as a group at night.
  3. Always be aware of your surroundings, and never leave personal belongings unattended.
  4. Do not engage with demonstrators that may be in the area, and cross to the other side of the street if safely able to do so.
  5. If staying at an area hotel, ask about safety resources they may have available when you check-in.
  6. Report security concerns on TriMet 24/7 by calling or texting 503-238-7433 (also known as 238-RIDE). “Blue light” phones are also available on MAX platforms throughout the convention center area.
  7. Contact OCC Public Safety at 503-731-7849. For non-emergencies, call the OCC Welcome Desk at 503-731-7800. If possible, seek assistance from a Kumoricon staff member first.
  8. As a last resort, call or text 911.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kumoricon 2025.

Announcing GreenFlöw as Guest of Honor

GreenFlöw hasn’t been everywhere - yet - but he’s working on it. Since launching his music career in 2016, he’s grown from a small convention DJ in the Midwest USA to an international performer, with stages spanning South Korea, Mexico, and beyond. His love of language shines through every set as he weaves together sounds from across the globe, blending styles in ways only possible in today’s era of shared music.

Recently, he’s stepped fully into production, releasing several tracks this year including his latest single “Extended Warranty.” Drawing inspiration from global culture and nerd culture alike, he continues to create new sounds built to pull you onto the dance floor.

When back in the US, GreenFlöw calls Milwaukee, WI home. There, he performs with local collective Non-Pop!, organizes rave events at conventions, and eats more cheese than one person probably should without a doctor’s note. Wherever you find him, one thing is certain: he’ll be working to get you moving. Because music is its own language and with GreenFlöw, there are no borders.
