Health and Safety Friendly Reminder

Respiratory illness season is in full swing during Kumoricon, so please be considerate to those around you. Face masks, social distancing, and frequent hand sanitizing are encouraged! The more precautions you choose, the more resistant you will be to any assortment of illness going around, including the good ol’ “con crud” some of us have experienced in the wake of a convention. No precaution will be mandatorily enforced, but we would like you to be empowered to choose your level of health safety. Please respect others who choose to wear masks or ask for distance. Likewise, please respect a person’s choice to not mask and people who are fine with being in closer proximity to others. One additional but optional precaution, specifically concerning COVID-19, is testing yourself. We understand that it’s not the easiest to acquire, but fortunately right now the US government has issued free resources such that anyone with a mailing address can acquire COVID-19 tests.

At any point during or within a week after attending Kumoricon, if you find you tested positive for COVID-19, we ask that you fill out an anonymous contact tracing form so that we can inform everyone of potential cases and allow each of us to take appropriate measures if needed.

Lastly, if you are extremely sick with anything, please consider staying home to protect everyone as well as to better care for yourself.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at Kumoricon!

Kumoricon 2023 COVID-19 Expectations

[Update: This news post is no longer the latest information. Please see the announcement on June 11, 2023, for the most up-to-date policy.]

We understand that for many, planning for the next year’s convention begins even before the previous year ends. As we look toward Kumoricon 2023 we are hoping to provide insight for those early planners to make the most of our policies and expectations and ensure everyone has ample time to prepare for an amazing convention.

While it is difficult to predict exactly what the global and local landscape will look like ahead of our 2023 con, Kumoricon is committed to providing attendees with general expectations to best support early planning. The details of our 2023 policy have not yet been finalized, but we encourage all attendees and staff to utilize the 2022 expectations as a basis, with the understanding that more specific policies will be communicated via our website and social media outlets in summer 2023.

N95-style mask requirements are anticipated to be the keystone of our COVID-19 precautions as we move forward. As in 2022, we anticipate vaccination status and/or testing to play a potential role in our policies. We encourage all who can to stay up to date on vaccinations, and ask attendees to be prepared for the possibility of on-site testing. We encourage all attendees and staff to review the content located on our COVID-19 safety page and check back often for updates to the policy as we get closer to our 2023 convention dates.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to our team at covid.19@kumoricon.org.

Thank you and we look forward to having you at Kumoricon 2023!
