About Kumoricon

What you need to know before the con…

1. Check-in...

All attendees—whether pre-registered or at-the-door, whether the badge was mailed or is being picked up—must bring:

  • Photo ID
  • If under age 18, parental permission form (if you have not mailed it already)
  • Your badge, if it was mailed

Have questions or issues? Check the registration page or forum Registration FAQ.

2. Rapid registration...

If you are registering at the door, speed things up and arrive with your registration form pre-filled out.

Fillable At-Con Registration Form [fillable PDF] – To type and print your info. (Faster!)

Blank At-Con Registration Form [PDF] – To handwrite your info.

3. Registration hours...

Friday: 3:00pm-10:00pm (pre-registration check-in and pick-up only)
Saturday: 7:00am-7:00pm
Sunday: 7:00am-7:00pm
Monday: 7:00am-12:00noon

At-the-door registration begins on Saturday.

Registration is located in the garage of the Hilton. If crowds are heavy, there may be times when you are waiting outdoors. Please come prepared for weather (including sunscreen) and possible high heat.

4. Policies...

Do you know when the minor curfew is? Whether you need to peace-bond your prop? Whether photography is allowed? What you can't put on a sign?

Find out.

5. Hand stamp for 18+ events...

Want to get into an 18+ panel? Plan ahead. Your ID and badge isn't enough. You need to bring these two things to the Info Booth to get a hand stamp to enter these events. (After Info Booth hours, head to the Operations Office instead. But plan ahead, because this takes longer!)

6. The schedule (the good stuff!)...

Did you know that the schedule exists in six formats, including a smartphone app, a live schedule on the website, and books included in your swag bag?

Start here to plan your con. Use the free Guidebook app for iPhone, iPod touch, and Android to view the Kumoricon schedule, maps, Twitter, alerts, and more. Mark events to create a personalized schedule! After you install the app, search the guides for "Kumoricon".

Letter from the Con Chair

Hello, everyone! This is Beau Gentry, Kumoricon's Convention Chair for 2011.

This is my third time being the Chair of this organization, and I'm excited to see you all back again, and to meet all the new people who are first-timers to our con!

For the first time in Kumoricon's history, our programming will fill two hotels! These are the Hilton Vancouver Washington, a fan favorite since KC '07, with an awesome park across the street (Esther Short Park); and just a super-short walk away, the Red Lion on the Quay.

Another first for us is the first-ever male mascot for Kumoricon! Check him out, as well as the other entries, in the gallery.

I've attended a lot of conventions, but Kumoricon is my favorite. We have a laid-back, family reunion feel that you don't see in cons with over 4000 people very often. Having been around since the first Kumoricon in Eugene in 2003, (and even before then, when some people went up to Sakura-Con and decided we needed an anime convention in Oregon), I have to say that our fans are the best! You bring so much energy and enthusiasm every year.

Our fans are known for creating their own fun, like random cosplay meet-ups, to keep Kumoricon going all year long!

The staff for this year have been meeting and getting ready for Kumoricon 2011. We have some great ideas and are really excited to bring them to the attendees. If you're interested in being staff and seeing how the inside of a convention runs, we invite you to come talk to our staff at any of our General Meetings, which are always open to the public and listed on our website.

Kumoricon has some fun mini-events planned. Coming up in February in Eugene is Oregon Asian Celebration. We're also planning some with our friends at OryCon and GameStorm.

As always, our forums are busy with chatter, people planning meetups, helpful advice, and silly posting games. (Yeah, I'm looking at you, "Off-Topic" forum.)

Now that the website has a new look for 2011, and pre-registration is open, things are really getting started! Keep checking back for updates on events, guests, and all the other stuff we have planned.

Hope to see all of you at Kumoricon 2011!

Beau Gentry

Con Report: Sakura-Con – Posted May. 6, 2011

Kumoricon’s big sister convention was a big party! Sakura-Con, each Easter weekend, is well worth the trip, as the Northwest’s largest anime convention. Several Kumoricon Directors and members of our Registration Team had an amazing time, meeting all of the loyal attendees and interested first-timers who stopped by our booth to chat with us and reminisce.

Get Your Game On at GameStorm! – Posted Mar. 23, 2011

GameStorm is a four-day con, starting on a Thursday: Thu-Sun, March 24-27—conveniently right during many schools’, colleges’ and universities’ Spring Break! And it’s at one of the 2011 Kumoricon hotels, the Hilton Vancouver Washington, so, a good opportunity to acquaint yourself with its layout (or refresh your memory from 2007) before we take it over Labor Day weekend. Now in its 13th year, GameStorm is a project of OSFCI and has a “sibling” relationship with Kumoricon.
