A Note On Safety

Posted October 27, 2025

Hello Kumoricon Family,

Throughout the year, many of you have reached out to us expressing concerns about safety and security this year in light of recent national events. Most recently, a federal appeals court issued a hold on one of the State of Oregon’s restraining orders against deploying the National Guard to the City of Portland. We take your concerns seriously and have been actively engaged with our partners at the Oregon Convention Center and our security vendor, United Security Services, to ensure that everyone has a safe, welcoming experience at Kumoricon 2025.

We were recently made aware of an area resource by the Oregon Convention Center that we would like to share with you, and we encourage you to utilize it during Kumoricon. The Convention Center District offers a Safe Connect Program, which offers walking escorts around the convention center area, in addition to providing regular patrols. This service is available throughout the surrounding area, extending north to the Crowne Plaza and as far east as the DoubleTree near the Lloyd Center.

This service will be available during the following dates and times:
Friday, October 31: 7:30am—1am
Saturday, November 1: 7:30am—1am
Sunday, November 2: 7:30am—6pm

Walking escorts may be requested by calling 971-710-4818, and a uniformed public safety coordinator will meet you within 15 minutes.

Your safety is our highest priority at Kumoricon, and we encourage you to follow these safety tips:

  1. Consider moving photo shoots inside the Oregon Convention Center.
  2. Travel as a group at night.
  3. Always be aware of your surroundings, and never leave personal belongings unattended.
  4. Do not engage with demonstrators that may be in the area, and cross to the other side of the street if safely able to do so.
  5. If staying at an area hotel, ask about safety resources they may have available when you check-in.
  6. Report security concerns on TriMet 24/7 by calling or texting 503-238-7433 (also known as 238-RIDE). “Blue light” phones are also available on MAX platforms throughout the convention center area.
  7. Contact OCC Public Safety at 503-731-7849. For non-emergencies, call the OCC Welcome Desk at 503-731-7800. If possible, seek assistance from a Kumoricon staff member first.
  8. As a last resort, call or text 911.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kumoricon 2025.
