Fri 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm – Panel 2 (A106)

LGBTQ+ issues, nerd culture, and the convention scene have been likely partners for many years now. Our panel of queer- and ally-identifying hosts will guide a thoughtful, tolerant, and open-minded discussion on non-heteronormative characters and themes, safety, and inclusion at conventions, and how we have possibly used fanworks to explore our own genders and sexualities. Call us Queer Geeks Anonymous: This panel (which is sponsored by Kieran Strange and friends' LGBTQ+/SAGA geek group The Kaleidoscope Project) is a great one for both queer-identifying people, as well as allies old and new who may have questions about certain aspects of the queer community. We want to help you to learn, grow, understand, and therefore become better allies—and so we encourage and maintain a super-duper inclusive atmosphere in a judgement-free space for everybody's comfort!

Dance Lessons
Ballroom Dance Lessons

All of our instructors are skilled dancers with years of experience. From ballroom competitions to social dance clubs to the professional classroom, our staff aim to help you feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor. Please feel free to come to us with any questions you may have, and we will assist you to the best of our ability. Thank you for your enthusiastic support!

Dance Lesson – American Tango

Sat 9:00 am - 10:30 am – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

Developed out of the first styles of Tango from North America and Europe, American Tango is a simplified version of Argentine Tango that is danced by everyone from beginners to world champion competitors. American Tango uses sharper movements than its Argentinian sibling, and is known for its characteristic head snaps.

Dance Lesson – Cha Cha

Fri 10:00 am - 11:30 am – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

One of the five International Latin dances, the Cha-Cha (not the Cha-Cha-Cha) known for its regular syncopations, is a fast and upbeat dance commonly taught first to newcomers of the International Latin style. Get ready for fancy footwork and flaunt your feathers with the staple of Latin dancing.

Dance Lesson – Foxtrot

Fri 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

A key staple to the International Standard dances, the foxtrot boasts the greatest degree of versatility and style among its peers. Pairing naturally to the musical giants of the 50s and 60s (looking at the Rat Pack here), those comfortable with the foxtrot will find themselves swinging across the floor with a classic grace. Beware however as this is not the easiest dance to jump into.

Dance Lesson – Hustle

Fri 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

The 1970s are calling with their bell-bottoms and disco music! The Hustle is a catch-all name for disco dances, but when it comes to ballroom, you dance hustle with a partner. This dance includes some elements of swing dancing, and is sometimes called the New York Hustle. It's fun, fast-paced, and best of all? You still get to do the disco point!

Dance Lesson – Night Club 2 Step

Sat 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

Gently swaying side to side is the hallmark of this contemporary dance. Slower modern pop music is the staple of this dance. With a very relaxed feel, Nightclub has a characteristic "quick-quick-slow" beat. This dance is perfect for beginners who are looking to dip their toes in the world of ballroom dance.

Dance Lesson – Rumba

Sat 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

Cha-Cha's slower and sultrier brother, the Rumba is the expressive soul of the International Latin dances. As another incredibly versatile dance, understanding the rumba will show you a whole new meaning to the term "slow dance".

Dance Lesson – Salsa

Sat 11:00 am - 12:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

Is it a Colombian dance? Is it a Cuban dance? Well there are a plethora of adherents to both and both enjoy a popular following throughout the United States. We are proud to announce that… we're only teaching the LA style. Ok, so there's some (or a lot) of room we won't cover, but that shouldn't stop you from learning what is probably the most famous and popular social dance in the US. If you want to learn how to shake your hips at any outing, you have to learn salsa.

Dance Lesson – Single Time Swing

Fri 11:00 am - 12:30 pm – Coliseum (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

The modern adaptation of the iconic Lindy Hop, the Single Time, or East Coast Swing is the star-child to inherit the swing genre in the modern age. True to its stylistic roots, it enjoys a huge following, danced all over the states for the aficionados of suspenders, polka dots, and big band jazz. If your look is so out of style that it's totally in style, don't miss the Single Time Swing.

Dance Lesson – Slow Waltz

Fri 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm – Coliseum (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Originally known as the Boston Waltz, having taken form on our east coast, the slow waltz as it is now called is perhaps the most widely practiced International Standard dance. Usually serving as both the greenhorn's first foray into the genre as well as being the perfect intro into the more iconic Viennese version (the word version perhaps being unfit here as it is the originator of "waltzing"). This is a must-learn if one wants to master the International Standard styles.

Dance Lesson – Viennese Waltz

Fri 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm – Coliseum (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

If you're thinking about dancing hand-to-hand under ornate chandeliers with hoop skirts twisting and turning while seamlessly transitioning from partner to partner, you're thinking about the Minuet, not the Viennese Waltz. Although it eventually rose its way to prominence among high social circles, the Waltz, with its emphasis on rotation and improvisational nature, required relatively little training to execute and scandalously exposed the bare ankles of the women participating. Despite the prevalence of lewdly exposed ankles, we will continue forward with teaching you the elegant and timeless Viennese Waltz.

Japanese Bon Odori (folk dancing)

Sat 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 202)

Bon odori is folk dancing that is done at the Obon festival in the Buddhist temples. We will do dances from Japan as well as dances created in America. These are circle dances to bring the community together so they are simple to do and fun! All dances will be taught.

To most, Mount Shibotai's devastating eruption was a footnote in Tian history. To the shadow-bound wayangs who settled the jagged crater in Minata, the volcano was the reason they inhabited Golarion at all. In their de facto capital Inahiyi, the wayangs host an annual festival to commemorate the catastrophe that brought them into this world and forced them to ally with their neighbors against a common threat. On especially auspicious anniversaries, the wayangs invite foreigners to contribute to the ceremony, and the Pathfinder Society has negotiated the privilege of having its agents observe the sacred ceremonies as these outside participants. This is no mere anthropological opportunity, though, and the PCs may be all that stands between their world and an unspeakable evil.

Sun 10:00 am - 3:00 pm – ORPG (Hall A)

A series of five Quests designed for levels 1-5.

Mighty Lung Wa once controlled much of Tian Xia, but the empire crumbled a century ago. Three Successor States have squabbled for dominance ever since, each insisting that it alone is the rightful inheritor of Lung Wa's glory. In the shadow of these mighty nations, the humble land of Shokuro has sought the means to discourage its neighbors' territorial ambitions and earn their respect. When a retired hero learns of a lost, legendary palace that might protect relics of the old empire, she calls on the Pathfinder Society for assistance finding the fabled site. The PCs must travel to each of the Successor States in search of clues to uncover the palace and the treasures within.

House of Harmonious Wisdom includes five 1-hour adventures that take the PCs across central Tian Xia in search of imperial treasures and forgotten secrets. The series includes a beginning adventure and a finale, but players can experience the other parts in any order.

This scenario is designed for play in Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild but can easily be adapted for use with any world. This scenario is compliant with the Open Game License (OGL) and is suitable for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

When a mysterious visitor comes to Absalom Station selling items belonging to a lost Starfinder, the Starfinder Society takes note. The PCs are dispatched to discover out how the recent arrival found these items, leading them on a series of quests beyond the Pact Worlds and into the stars.

"Into the Unknown" includes five, 1-hour adventures that take the PCs from exploring Absalom Station, to partaking in starship combat, to exploring an alien world. The fifth adventure in the series provides a stunning conclusion that takes the PC's previous accomplishments into account for a climactic final showdown against an enemy starship.

Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Scenario #1-01: The Commencement

Fri 3:30 pm - 8:30 pm – ORPG (Hall A)

A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1-2.

All Starfinders complete their training by conferring with Guidance—a network of uploaded personalities embodying paragons from the Starfinder Society's history. Before receiving the blessing of Guidance, the PCs must meet with and assist critical missions on behalf of key leaders of the Society's leading factions. With the events of the Scoured Stars Incident still fresh in everyone's memory, there's plenty that needs doing to set the Society back on track.

The Commencement is a replayable scenario designed to help introduce players to the factions of the Starfinder Society and areas of importance on Absalom Station.

Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Scenario #1-02: Fugitive on the Red Planet

Fri 9:00 pm - 2:00 am – ORPG (Hall A)

A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1-4.

Theft cannot be tolerated, especially when the culprit is a former Starfinder! The PCs travel to the red world of Akiton, hot on the heels of a deserting Starfinder who stole a magical relic from the vaults of the Lorespire Complex. Things get complicated when they discover what should be a dreary town in Akiton's wastelands is now positively jubilant. Could this revelry, not to mention the re-opening of town's formerly defunct mining operations, be related to the wayward Starfinder?

Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Scenario #1-03: Yesteryear's Truth

Sat 9:00 pm - 2:00 am – ORPG (Hall A)

A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1-4.

A Starfinder expedition's dusty data from an orbital scan shows signs of active technology on a distant, war-ravaged planet. Following up on this old lead, the Society dispatches a team of Starfinder to investigate the far-off world. Between making first contact and exploring the ruins of a dead civilization, long-buried secrets of the past are ripe for discovery.

Content in Yesteryear's Truth also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Wayfinders faction.

Sun 10:00 am - 3:00 pm – ORPG (Hall A)

Enter a world of adventure with the Pathfinder Adventure Card Guild, a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players. Each player has a unique character composed of a deck of cards and a set of stats. Roleplayers will find the stats very familiar—characters have classes such as fighter, wizard, and rogue, as well as numbers that define strength, dexterity, intelligence, etc. You'll improve your character by acquiring new items, allies, spells, and weapons as you explore and overcome challenges; over time, you'll be able to customize your deck to better suit your own individual vision of your character.

Shadowrun

Shadowrun is a near-future RPG that blends all your favorite elements of fantasy such as magic, elves, and dragons, as well as your favorite sci-fi elements of an immersive virtual reality internet, hackers, cyberware, drones, guns, and throws them into our world in the year 2076. You will play a Shadowrunner, a criminal who does the dirty work the corporations can't admit they do. See if you can survive this rough and tumble semi-dystopian sci-fi/fantasy adventure. The Shadowrun 5th edition system uses D6 dice, and has you roll your dice pool against the GM to resolve tests.
