It's my voice and I'll do what I want to with it! Not really. My life is that of an actor, and as an actor I go where I'm told. I follow the rules. I do my job and then I go home. Sounds simple, right? Nope. It took decades of training, thousands of auditions, and countless rejections. Odds are, I was rejected for something earlier today. Want to hear about this life of an actor and ask him some questions? Swing by. Hang out. I'll be here. Hosted by Eric Vale.

The Super-Duper LGBTQ+/Saga Panel (Allies Welcome!)

Sun 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm – Panel 1 (C123)

LGBTQ+ issues, nerd culture, and the convention scene have been likely partners for many years now. Our panel of queer- and ally-identifying hosts will guide a thoughtful, tolerant, and open-minded discussion on non-heteronormative characters and themes, safety and inclusion at conventions, and how we have possibly used fanworks to explore our own genders and sexualities. Call us Queer Geeks Anonymous: This panel (which is sponsored by Kieran Strange and friends' LGBTQ+/SAGA geek group The Kaleidoscope Project) is a great one for both queer-identifying people, as WELL as allies old and new who may have questions about certain aspects of the queer community. We want to help you to learn, grow, understand, and therefore become better allies—and so we encourage and maintain a super-duper inclusive atmosphere in a judgement-free space for everybody's comfort!

Fri 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm – Live Events 1 (B115-B116)

Have you ever asked a question and felt like you weren't getting a straight answer? Ever wondered what it would be like to ask a voice actor a question if the veil of diplomacy and political correctness was lifted? Then bring it. Any question you want answered will be answered in a Q&A the likes of which you've never seen, as Eric Vale speaks his mind in his usual brash and blunt fashion, without concern for societal norms or human feelings. Ask him whatever your devious little mind can stir up. Anime, actors, politics, his bathroom habits, anything. You have been warned.

Dance Lessons
Ballroom Dance Lessons

All of our instructors are skilled dancers with years of experience. From ballroom competitions to social dance clubs to the professional classroom, our staff aim to help you feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor. Please feel free to come to us with any questions you may have, and we will assist you to the best of our ability. Thank you for your enthusiastic support!

Dance Lesson—Argentine Tango

Fri 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Born in the heart of Buenos Aires, the Argentine Tango is deeply rooted in tradition and partnership. It is usually a slower dance composed of stalking walks, light flicks of the foot, and a frame reminiscent of a passionate embrace; its deliberate execution bears such a thick sensuousness one nearly chokes on it. A cultural masterpiece that we are fortunate has found its way here.

Dance Lesson—Cha Cha

Fri 9:00 am - 10:00 am – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

One of the five International Latin dances, the Cha Cha (not the Cha-Cha-Cha) known for its regular syncopations, is a fast and upbeat dance commonly taught first to newcomers of the International Latin style. Get ready for fancy footwork and flaunt your feathers with the staple of Latin dancing.

Dance Lesson—East Coast Swing

Fri 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

The modern adaptation of the iconic Lindy Hop, the East Coast Swing is the star-child to inherit the swing genre in the modern age. True to its stylistic roots, it enjoys a huge following, danced all over the states for the aficionados of suspenders, polka dots, and big band jazz. If your look is so out of style that it's totally in style, don't miss the East Coast Swing.

Dance Lesson—Foxtrot

Fri 10:00 am - 11:00 am – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

A key staple to the International Standard dances, the foxtrot boasts the greatest degree of versatility and style among its peers. Pairing naturally to the musical giants of the 50s and 60s (looking at the Rat Pack here), those comfortable with the foxtrot will find themselves swinging across the floor with a classic grace. Beware however as this is not the easiest dance to jump into.

Dance Lesson—Quickstep

Fri 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Hopping, prancing, kicking, and flicking are the staples of this International Standard dance. The most energetic style danced in a closed frame, dancing a proper quickstep gives the impression the couple is flying just off the surface of the floor. An incredibly versatile dance in its own right, the quickstep is as much a challenge as it is a pleasure to dance.

Dance Lesson—Rumba

Fri 11:00 am - 12:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Cha Cha's slower and sultrier brother, the Rumba is the expressive soul of the International Latin dances. As another incredibly versatile dance, understanding the rumba will show you a whole new meaning to the term "slow dance".

Dance Lesson—Salsa

Fri 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Is it a Colombian dance? Is it a Cuban dance? Well there are a plethora of adherents to both and both enjoy a popular following throughout the United States. We are proud to announce that… we're only teaching the LA style. Ok, so there's some (or a lot) of room we won't cover, but that shouldn't stop you from learning what is probably the most famous and popular social dance in the US. If you want to learn how to shake your hips at any outing, you have to learn salsa.

Dance Lesson—Slow Waltz

Fri 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

Originally known as the Boston Waltz, having taken form on our east coast, the slow waltz as it is now called is perhaps the most widely practiced International Standard dance. Usually serving as both the greenhorn's first foray into the genre as well as being the perfect intro into the more iconic Viennese version (the word version perhaps being unfit here as it is the originator of "waltzing"). This is a must-learn if one wants to master the International Standard styles.

Dance Lesson—Viennese Waltz

Fri 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

If you're thinking about dancing hand-to-hand under ornate chandeliers with hoop skirts twisting and turning while seamlessly transitioning from partner to partner, you're thinking about the Minuet, not the Viennese Waltz. Although it eventually rose its way to prominence among high social circles, the Waltz, with its emphasis on rotation and improvisational nature, required relatively little training to execute and scandalously exposed the bare ankles of the women participating. Despite the prevalence of lewdly exposed ankles, we will continue forward with teaching you the elegant and timeless Viennese Waltz.

Dance Lesson—West Coast Swing

Fri 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

If you're thinking of the 1930s and 40s with a rowdy crowd of guys and gals jumping and jiving to classic tunes, then go look at East Coast Swing. West Coast Swing, while it maintains the common swing themes of syncopated rhythm and stylistic improvisation, has largely been adapted to modern music, with contemporary technique and a generally slower pace. It's the type of cool, smooth, and understated kind of style for that quintessential city slicker.

Dance Lessons—Open Practice

Fri 9:00 am - 7:30 pm – Arena (Oregon Ballroom 203/204)

In addition to the specific dance lessons, we will be offering help for any particular dance step you may be having trouble with. Come ask us!
