Rules

  • Stories must be based on characters and settings from any anime, manga, Japanese video game, or Japanese musical group.
  • Crossovers are allowed.
  • Original characters are allowed, but must be within the setting of the chosen series/game/band and interacting with other fandom characters. (Please, no Mary Sues!)
  • No completely original fiction will be accepted. Entries must be fanfiction.
  • Entries must be written by the person submitting them. No submissions will be accepted by proxy. All instances of plagiarism will result in disqualification from the contest and any future fanfiction contests by Kumoricon.
  • Please have someone else proofread your entry. Judges may disqualify stories with extensive grammar and spelling errors.
  • Kumoricon is a family friendly convention. Only stories rated K through M on the fiction rating system will be allowed. http://www.fictionratings.com/ Materials that are not correctly rated will be disqualified.
  • Entries previously entered in any Kumoricon Fanfiction contests are not eligible.
  • Only completed works are allowed to be entered.

Categories

Entries will be judged in the following categories:

  • Drama
  • Action
  • Humor
  • Romance
  • One-shot
  • Multi-chapter

Judges reserve the right to combine or create more categories as they see fit, depending on number of entries received.

Kumoricon Award

All entries will be entered in the anonymous attendee-judged Kumoricon Award category.

  • All entries will be entered into the attendee-judged Kumoricon Award category.
  • All Kumoricon Award entries will be anonymously posted on the Kumoricon website. Kumoricon attendees will read and vote on their favorite story.
  • Anyone caught promoting their story by name on the Kumoricon forums will be disqualified from this category. You can say you are entered and tell people to vote but cannot use your story name.
  • For the safety of the readers and authors only stories rated T and below with be eligible for this category.
  • Once voting is on the contest is closed, entrants’ names will be credited on their stories on the Kumoricon website.

The winner will have an excerpt of their story read at Closing Ceremonies.

Submission

  • No hard copies will be accepted at the convention.
  • Entries should be single-spaced, with a line break between each paragraph.
  • Entrants must be present at Kumoricon 2011 to win.
  • Entrants must be willing to have their fiction archived on the Kumoricon website.

Submissions should be attached to an email with the following information in the body of the email:

  • Your real name
  • Your pen name (optional)
  • Your email address
  • The title of your entry
  • Rating
  • Word count
  • A brief summary of your entry
  • The title(s) of the Japanese anime/manga/etc. your entry is based on

Submissions will be need to be sent to fanfic@kumoricon.org.

Deadline

All entries must be received by midnight on August 1st.
