Kumoricon - 9th Annual Anime Convention - Labor Day Weekend - Sept. 3-5, 2011 - Hilton Vancouver Washington & the Red Lion Vancouver at the Quay

What is Kumoricon?

Kumori is the Japanese word for “cloudy”, and when you think of conventions in the Northwest, there really isn’t a better way to describe them! For 8 years now, anime fans have gathered together for an amazing convention, now held on Labor Day weekend, rain or shine. We are very pleased to be bringing you, once again, an anime convention that is primarily designed and operated with the grass-roots fan base in mind.

Kumoricon 2011

On Labor Day weekend (September 3-5, 2011) thousands of people who lovingly refer to themselves as otaku (a Japanese word normally used to signify a nerd or geek, which has been adopted by the anime community) will gather together for a convention that will now span two hotels in downtown Vancouver, WA: The Hilton Vancouver Washington, and the Red Lion Vancouver at the Quay.

For three days there will be games, dances, panels, guests, and lots of friends getting together to talk about and celebrate one thing that connects them all—anime. Whatever your flavor, whatever your fandom, the convention is a place to join up with like-minded souls in the area and experience it all, together. We also have video games, tabletop tournaments and tons of contests with great prizes!

What is Anime?

A few of you probably found your way here because you saw all the people in great costumes having fun last year, yet you still aren’t sure what they were doing.

Well, at Kumoricon we celebrate all things anime and manga. Which are words that really just sum up any “cartoon” or comic book from Japan. Popular examples are shows such as Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Ponyo, Speed Racer, and Pokémon. But to say anime is only for kids is like saying American sports are only for men. Anime and manga come in a wide variety, from workplace dramas to romance sagas to fantasy adventures. If you look, there is most likely an anime or manga for you.

Kumoricon 2011 will be held on Labor Day weekend, September 3rd through the 5th, at the Hilton Vancouver Washington and the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay. Please browse through the links on the left to find out more about registration, the hotels, events, contests, and guests. And please feel free to visit our contact page if you have any further questions!
