Kumoricon began in 2003 in Springfield, OR (Eugene area) for two days on Thanksgiving weekend. Since 2004, it has been located in the Portland metro area and held all three days of Labor Day weekend. Kumoricon is Oregon’s largest anime convention, and has always been all volunteer and all fan-run.
Attendance figures: Most figures are estimates. Attendance is measured by count of paid attendance or membership purchases at standard attendee rates. Staff, exhibitors, guests, and complimentary badges are not counted. VIP badges are counted. A weekend badge is counted once regardless of how many days the person attended. Non-picked up and non-attending paid pre-registered badges are counted. Multiple single-day badges by a single person are counted at the number of badges purchased. (This last category is typically very low in number.)
