Dragon Moon Festival opportunity for amateur artists
« on: April 08, 2009, 02:06:55 pm »
Hello Artists!

I have been given information for a possible venue coming up this summer with Dragon Moon Festival.

We are looking for 2-4 amateur artists who can commit to the 1st weekend per month (except for Kumoricon weekend) for June, July, August and Sept. Saturdays Noon-10pm and Sundays Noon-6pm.

A snipet from the information flyer:
" Amateur artists to present art on all festival dates excluding the month of September"

Here is the website for the festival
http://dragonmoonfestival.com/

Please send me or Jeff a reply if you are interested

publicity(at)kumoricon.org
or

We are still looking for artists for this! The first Dragon Moon festival is in one week (weekend of June 6-7). Dragon Moon has asked for either amateur or professional artists for this event.

Although we need artists for all three weekends, feel free to just sign up for one. We definitely would like you for one event even if you cannot commit to other events.

This is a great opportunity to sell your art outside the con, especially if weren't able to get a space in the Artist Alley. 40,000 Dragon Moon programs are being distributed, many in advance of the event in the Portland Chinese Times, so this event has a wide audience. Additionally, Dragon Moon is pushing hard to have an anime presence at the event through Kumoricon. Kumoricon will be running a table each weekend and putting on a cosplay show on each event's Sunday.

Please post here or email publicity@kumoricon.org if you're interested! We'd love to have you.

If you are unable to staff a table but you would like to contribute art, we can sell artists' material at our Kumoricon table and pass on the proceeds to you. Please contact us at publicity@kumoricon.org to discuss arrangements for this.

Thanks!

God, I really want to do this, but I also have to work on things for Kumoricon :'D

We'll see, we'll see...

For the other weekends, if spots are open, what's the latest that you can request a table?

There is no due date, but it's first come first-served if we have too many, and even if we don't fill the maximum it really helps us if you contact us earlier so we can plan around the number, finalize arrangements, and know how much we need to look to fill remaining spots.

I am definitely interested in this, but I was curious: Do you have to commit for every month, or just one month for both Saturday AND Sunday?

No, no need to commit to every month! We would like you to do the whole weekend, if possible, though. I've sent you a PM for more info.

Oh my, I think I found out about this a little too late if it's first come first serve. I just now sent a request for a table this coming weekend. Oh man, I hope I'm lucky...

Otherwise I'll have to wait 'till August. e_e;

Sorry for not replying yet, Adam or I will reply individually to people who have contacted us about July and August events in the next few days, we're still planning some details of how we'll be doing these two events. There should still be room.

Hahahaha, yeah I tried to participate a couple weeks ago. Nothing happened. I was the only one who showed up, so I just felt awkward.

Sorry for being late catching up...I've now responded to all artists who have contacted me (either by email, PM, or posted in this thread) about the July or August weekends. If I have not contacted you, I probably missed you...in case that has happened, could you please contact me again?

Thank you!

I might be interested in doing the event in August if you still have room for another artist, sounds like fun.

I just received notice of an important schedule change:

The July 4-5 weekend event has been canceled, but the August and September events will continue.

Quote
After careful consideration, the Dragon Moon Festival Committee has decided to cancel the July Dragon Moon Festival. We've realized that even with your generous support our target audience of families and those interested in food, culture and entertainment have fewer resources this year and we are shifting our plans to align with the economic realities of Oregonians this summer. For us that means we should not compete with other city wide events including local back yard parties and the Waterfront Blues Festival held during the celebratory July 4th holiday.

To this end – our next Dragon Moon Festival will be on August 1st and 2nd. By doing so, we will be able to position the festival for greater success. We'll see you in August!

We have not filled up for our August weekend yet, however, I'm giving first priority during the next few days to artists who have confirmed for July, then to ones who have already expressed interest for August. However, if you're interested, go ahead and post/contact--you don't need to wait! You'll be next in line if we have space available.

Unfortunately, the entire remainder of the Dragon Moon Festival events for 2009, after the June event, have been canceled. The Dragon Moon Festival is planning on returning for 2010. Thanks to those who participated and attended in June!
