2009/2010 Hotel - Hilton Portland & Executive Tower
« on: September 02, 2008, 04:00:39 pm »
This will be the hotel in 2009 and 2010. First a link to the official website.
http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/PDXPHHH-Hilton-Portland-Executive-Tower-Oregon/index.do

Hilton Portland & Executive Tower
921 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland, Oregon, United States 97204
Tel: 1-503-226-1611   Fax: 1-503-220-2565

Attendee Rates: these rates apply to rooms with two double beds.
Single/Double $119/night
Triple/Quad rate $129/night
The one bed rooms are only available at the single/double rate.

Executive Tower Rates: $139/$149 per night. (gets you a mini-fridge and microwave, but you are across the street from the main convention building).

Staff Rate is $90/night.

As for the numbers, here is the info sheet.

The ceiling height in the Ballroom foyer is 9ft.
The ceiling height in the Plaza foyer is 15ft.
The ceiling height on the 3rd floor is 8ft.
The ceiling height in the panel rooms is 11ft.

This is the most recent OFFICIAL Layout.

The exhibitor's hall map is not included because it is only needed by the people with booths and the staff.

"The Park Across the Street" this year will be your choice of Pioneer Courthouse square or the Park Block between Salmon and Main.

Here is a map that will help you find stuff near the hotel. I'll be writing up the document with all the labels soon. For now, blue is parking, yellow is food, red is hotels, and pink/purple is OTHER. The full key is located here:
http://pockyclub.elite-otaku.net/SmallMapKey.rtf

Note that the yellow food spots also represent coffee houses and bars. ;)
The key that explains all of them can be found at the following link.

So that last picture is from the Executive Tower Salon right? Our new Karaoke Lounge?

Ooooh, a Karaoke Lounge with an under 21 bar would be so cooooool.

Those rooms are so pretty! That hallways with the checkered floor tiles seems perfect for cosplay photos (not that we'd be clogging up the hallway or anything.....lol). It makes me think of Cowboy Bebop or Hellsing for some reason.

Actually I would absolutely love if we could have a staff assisted photoshoot on the stairs several times a day. Like after a big event gets done lining up we get all the cosplayers from X on the stairs, take a picture with a set number of cameras (10 sounds good if it's just one photographer) and then the people clear out and open the stairs up to the public.

People are going to WANT photoshoots with that marvelous staircase, we may as well have a staffer assigned to take care of it so that the inevitable inconvenience to other attendees is kept to a minimum. I think some photoshoots on the stairs is better than NO photoshoots on the stairs.

We'll see what happens though.

I like that idea, Tom, it sounds like the best way to make the photo ops. realistic. I hope it can work out that way.

I am excited, as the lolita tea party coordinator.  Why?

Because I discovered that ONE BLOCK AWAY, there is a hotel that does actual, proper afternoon tea.  Glee!  Even if we can't have an official lolita tea party there, I so want to hit it up for food while I'm at con.

Run of house is usually "Room Assigned at Check-in" IE No guarantee on 1 or 2 beds ect. Although if they ar sold out of Std rooms when you check-in you could get a free upgrade to a suite or executive room at the ROH rate.

Rates seem nice, no unexpected leaps in price. I'm still interested to see how the discount affects them, though.

This is the attendee rate.  As posted above the rate for a 2 bed room at standard price is over 200 a night.  Other then the exec tower it is 5 bucks more then last years attendee rate.  I have not seen the interior yet but I will take pictures when I tour.

Oh wow, so it'll only be like $300ish for 3 nights? Sweet! I have a question, do you pay for the hotel as soon as you reserve a room or does it wait to take the money until it's the date you ordered it for?

*never booked a room before* ^_^,

U can reserve now and not pay till the moment u check in. (tho u have until 1 week before the con to back out) after the one week barrier passes, backing out will incur charges.

Hey I am just taking one... Just like this year at full price not even asking for a discount! And the one I took this year and will take next year and every year afterwords is technically only for 2 people unless official staff are stuffing rooms?!

The rates really not that bad, I mean, it's no worse than this year's rates anyway. A good method for getting a room and not having to take the whole rate on yourself is getting friends to go with you or roommates. Getting three other people can be a great way of splitting up the rate into small chunks.

And EveoftheAbyss is right, splitting the money between several people is the best way to go.

Yes, agreed, elevators have always become an issue. It is inevitable though, until multiple forms of travel are available (and equally convenient), the elevators will be jammed. A hotel would need about 10 elevators all functioning to the same degree for their not to be a hold up, I'd reckon.

But at least this hotel has the stairs of Grandiose Majesty, lol. That's got to count for something.

They do.  The elevators are brand new.  They have some sort of algorythmn that detects traffic patterns and optimizies ... something.  I don't get it.  But the elevators are new, spiffy, smart and have little informational LCD screens in them.

hmm better reserve a room soon ._. if i recall the hilton has small rooms... (last one we were at at least did)

Might get a suite, not sure...

lets see, 4 girls, 12 diffrent cosplay outfits, wig heads, and stock for our AA table...

depending on the room size,

how soon does the main hotel fillup?

This hotel in huge compared to anything we've been in before.  Two whole towers of rooms.  If we actually fill the hotel, well, it will be impressive.

Holy sweet Jesus. ....That's pretty reasonable. I have a question. If you have Hilton points[or whatever they're called], can you use that with the Con code? My mom travels for her job, and she gets all these points from staying at various hotels. I could probably knock the price down reasonably, but I'm just wondering if I could use both together.

I want to book the room but I'm not sure when it is yet. I would assume it is the weekend before labor day again, but I could be wrong.

We will be on Labor Day Weekend, like we have been every year but the first.

Something tells me the D.Gray-Man group will have to snatch up that hallway with the diamond-patterned floor for a photoshoot. But downtown Portland... Oh, sounds like such fun.

^Is the epic hammer returning? Now that ive gotten to like chapter 100 in DGM I'm thinking of cosplaying Levi :3 or as the scanlation version calls him, Rabi.

Yeah downtown will be fun xD I intend to walk around with my friends and see how many locals we can scare.

OK, so I actually went there on Wednesday. Once I'm done with all my videos from the convention you guys will get to see my video footage. I only recorded a little but I did ride the elevators so you can see how high tech they are.

In the lobby, there's a panel of like, twelve buttons with key holes and little read outs of what floor each elevator is on. If the Hilton feels like it, they can lock an elevator so it ONLY goes to the hotel rooms or ONLY goes to the con space. Wicked cool.

I did not go up into the Karaoke Lounge room though. Sorry.

Map Note! The grand ballrroom is in the first basement, so the layout is

3rd floor Conference Rooms
Plaza Level
Street level/Lobby
Grand Ballroom

That should help you wrap your head around the maps until I get them all cleaned up and organized. ;)

Edit: While I'm posting, how many of you guys went more than a couple blocks for food this year? Next year will be less car friendly and more pedestrian friendly when it comes to food and stuff.

How many blocks out should I make the area map? I was thinking of making it big enough to stretch down to the waterfront to include Saturday Market.

I'd say Madison to Everett and Waterfront to 12th for map area.  We're going to see a lot more bikes this year due to proximity to a lot of major bike routes and availability of bike parking.

hehe, just had the idea of Valet bike parking.  That would be amazing. xD

Just wondering if Parking is going to be a problem at this con for people staying at the hotel? I know it was a major problem at the Vancouver Hotel in 2006.
