"One New Thing a Day" suggestions
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:44:39 pm »
I am turning 18 on October 7th, and I've made it a goal to do one NEW thing each day until I turn 19. :3

A few examples of things on my list already:
- watch a lunar eclipse (FEB 21)
- wear a "kick me" sign on my back
- buy someone a dozen roses
- drink a whole cup of black coffee
- write a sonnet
- use a facial mask
- experiment with diet coke and mentos
etc etc.

All suggestions are appreciated.
Just make sure they're legal. and possible. lol.

Thanks everyone!

I've started, here's the link

You should go rock climbing, if you haven't already. It's loads of fun.

And you should attempt to make a souffle! I want to, but haven't gotten around to it. x3

I'm not that good at thinking things up. xD

Eat an entire bowl of rice.. one grain at a time.

Make a fort out of blankets.

Talk like a pirate for an entire day.

Be stealthy like a ninja for an entire day.

Pretend like you've had some life-changing event that causes you to be introspective about everything. "Ah, yes.. oranges.. the orange.. indeed.. I could tell you.. things about oranges.. that would make your blood curdle.."

Park in reverse.

hang out at a 24 hour starbucks until like 4 in the morning and start laughing when the cops show up to get all the younger kids out

I would say go to a strip club but you can not do that just yet unless you go to jiggles or something lol

start going to some of the clubs in Downtown P town...

Go to a Hooka Bar (it is not really smoking sides some flavors are delicious)

now I do not reccomend this one.... work as security and almost OD on caffine.... (I did that one when I was 18 lol)

one day dress up as a punk or something and the next day dress all intelectual and when your friends ask you what the hell is going on you just reply with... I am trying to find the "me" it shall confuse them and you will have a good laugh

Pet a parrot. Most people have never done it, but parrots are so cute when they get head scratches. Mine closes her eyes and butts my hand with her head as a sign that she wants more.

Wear your socks inside out for a whole day.

Get some coin roll paper from the bank and spend a week or two gathering your change up in a jar, then spend a few hours rolling and sorting the coins. I find counting out the change and then putting it into the paper rolls an excellent form of meditation.

Write a limerick about the first person you see online and email it to them.

Write a letter about everything you did today and mail it to yourself.

Write a letter to the company that makes cracker jacks and see if you can get a free prize.

Go to the mall and try to find the store that sells the largest pair of socks.

Visit Pioneer Courthouse square, find a name on the donation bricks, then google that person when you get home.

Try and find your heaviest set of clothes by weighing yourself on the bathroom scale while wearing different outfits.

Get a pair of dice and go to the library, use the dice to pick a random aisle and shelf, then read a book from that shelf.

Start your computer's defrag system and see how much of your house you can clean and organize before it finishes. See who's faster! Man or machine (or woman, heh).

Go to the video store and rent the oldest movie you can find there.

Stand in front of the mirror and learn to raise each eyebrow on its own (if you can't already).
Stand in front of the mirror and learn to wiggle your ears.

Hike from the zoo through the Audubon park to the Pittock Mansion.

Make Jello and suspend some sort of funny thing in the middle of it. when the Jello is done upend it onto a plate and take a picture for us all to see. (most people put fruit in the Jello like this, on the TV show The Office the put a stapler in Jello).

Buy a sunday newspaper and a roll of scotch tape. See how big of a paper chain you can make!

Buy a flavor of koolaid (or other colorful, non-carbonated beverage) you've never had, mix it up and poor it into an ice tray, put celphane over it, put toothpicks in to make a mysterious frozen treat. Do not spoil the surprise by drinking the rest of the Koolaid first!

Try and make a photo timeline of yourself by finding a picture of yourself for each year you've been alive without using school portraits.

Learn the lyrics to a Beatles song you don't already know.

Send Tom a dollar in the mail! ;)

grab a encylopedia and open it randomly and read whatever you open to

use a dictionary to find a new word and try to use it in a sentence during the day

start reading up on different religions (I use to do it all the time)

Dude! That's impossible!
http://areaology.com/area.html
No human being can count that high!

Mustash, it took me a long time to write that post, it was a couple of hours since I wrote each of those between calls. I no longer have tons of time while at work. ;)

Here's a couple I thought of today.
Get some special origami paper and practice making paper cranes. Try and make them faster each time! Once you have a top speed you can race your friends.

Buy some tiny marshmallows (or big marshmallows or grapes or blueberries) and see how many you can fit in your mouth. This is a variation on the camp game "chubby bunny" where two people try and say "Chubby Bunny" each time they put another item mallow in their mouth. Have a towel ready!

Load up imdb.com on your computer and grab three movies you own (or choose three moviesthat you'd like to rent). See which of the actors/directors have the fewest degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Watch (or go rent) the movie the winner was in!

Use dice to select a random country of the world;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countries_of_the_world
Then open Google maps and select satellite view so that you can't see the borders and names. Navigate the globe and try and find that country's capital city without looking it up.
If you're in the wrong city when you click back to the normal map, then put the map on satellite view and look up the city on wikipedia. Then try and find your way there from the city that you landed on!
If I think of anymore little things I'll post them.

Give someone a free hug.

Do something nice for someone, but don't tell them about it.

Eat pancakes with over easy eggs on top and pour maple syrup all over them. I like to add a slice of ham to the pile myself.

Eat nothing for one day.

Try wheaties with beer for breakfast.

Make glasses out of little chocolate donuts.

Write a letter to the politician of your choice. Who cares what it's about.

Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper.

Vote.

Drive your car from the wrong side, as if you were in Japan. Sit in the passenger seat, and drive the car from there. May be difficult as you aren't very tall, but then, that is what high heels are for right?

Be blond, in looks as well as attitude!

Start the day off with a 5 dollar bill in your pocket. Ask people if they have change over the course of the day, getting 5 1s, then 4 quarters each, then two dimes and a nickel for a quarter, etc. See how close you can get to having 500 pennies. See the penny rolling comment earlier...
(also, make sure you have a ziplock bag in a purse or backpack for all the pennies.

Make a picture story by taking pictures of your feet as you go through your day. Try and represent each part of your day by showing who your with (your feet next to a friend's) and whether you're working or relaxing (feet under a desk, feet up on the couch).

Paint your toenails each a different color.

Learn a new shadow puppet, I'm a big fan of "guy in a baseball cap".

Find a celebrity who was born on the same day as you were and learn more about them on wikipedia.

This is an improv game... While talking to a friend, start each sentence with a new letter of the alphabet see how far you can get in the conversation before one of you messes up.

Spend the whole day talking in rhyme.

Spend the whole day talking in iambic pentameter (for advance poets).

Ride the bus and listen for people talking in a foreign language you don't know (on the phone or to each other) write down the conversation phonetically in a notebook and then try and translate it when you get home.

Pretend to be a time traveller

Go to a public park and sing a different love song to each of the trees.

Stand in a public place and stare up at the sky/ceiling/nearby skyscraper for a 20 minutes and silently count how many people look the same way. Then applaud and grin happily as you walk away.

Hmm, this is what I can think of:

 - Go visit your elementary school and play in the playground like you did when you were younger

 - Write a message on piece of paper and then drop it in the middle of a busy area (like the mall) and see if someone picks it up

 - Go into Yahoo Chats and see how many times A/S/L shows up in 5 minutes

 - Go to school out of character

 - Talk like Yoda all day

 - Open a savings/checking account thats in your name

 - Pick a bus, ride it all day and see where it will take you.

 - Walk up to the person you dislike most and say to them "You're not a bad person" (I would never be able to do this one )

 - Pick up a pen and draw until the ink runs out of it

 - Eat green eggs and ham

I'll prolly think up of some more random things you can do laterz XD

Here are some ideas, I'll probably come up with better ones later  :)

Walk Backwards for a day

Talk in your own form a sign language for a day and see who can understand you

take a walk downtown and record how many times you see the letter "Q" (this can actually be quite difficult)

my friend has actually done this one: go to a crowed place (she did this at the zoo) and ask for directions pretending to not speak any English

Yay! Feet pictures!  :D
Also, I must have the underground Jamba juice menu!!!

Hmmm....... lets see, what kind of blog games I can come up with.....

Go back one year ago in your blog and write a comment to yourself. (this is a fun thing to do once a year to see how you've grown and whatnot).

Go back to the beginning of a friend's blog and post a comment to them, particularly fun if you didn't know that person then and you can act like a stranger!

If your blog service supports groups, try and find a user group for each interest listed in your profile.

Take a personality quiz and try and answer everything with the opposite of what you would usually say.

Build a webpage dedicated to tomorrow's date and put it up at midnight. Post a link for everyone to see the awesome dedication to that day (works best if it is not a major holiday).

Variant: Build a website dedicated to today's EXACT date and mention interesting stuff going on that day!

Write a list of everyone you've ever hugged and put it inside a bear from Build-a-Bear Workshop so you can hug them any time you want.

Here's a fun one. Create an Urban Legend and get two friends to help spread it. You can tell your friends it's not really true or try and make them believe it (I told my accomplices about it to make them want to spread it more).

Edit: I just got a Pink Star from Jamba Juice! Sooo yummy!
