A cosplay for my mom?
« on: June 24, 2006, 01:36:51 pm »
That's right.  :0

My mom gets to be the "responsible parent" taking up the anime club from my school up to Kumoricon this year.
I kinda was hoping there might be something extremely simple she could cosplay/simple dress up as.  :]
She's not liking the idea of doing anything special very much, but if I prove to her that t's easy and not bothersome, I think she'd enjoy it.

So what do you think I should do for her?

Perhaps something I could get froma thrift store, eh?
If you feel like you might have a good character idea though, just realize that there's one thing about my mom that's not changing no matter what: her hair.
She's got lovely long brown hair that was permed about a year and a half ago. So it's still nice and wavey, but can be a bit on the straight side sometimes.
That's pretty much it though when it comes to characters for her.  :]

Any help would be loved!  <3

P.S. -
Our cosplay group includes:
+ Two people from Naruto
+ One from Angelic Layer
+ One from Yu Yu Hakusho
+ One from Card Captor Sakura (I think.)

That's all~  <3

I'll just throw out a few ideas of long brown haired female characters (or close to brown hair) -

Meryl or Rem from Trigun
Risa from DN Angel
Tenten from Naruto (longer hair is good for buns)
Hiyono from Spiral
Fireworks chick from Bleach
Beldandy from Ah Megame-sama
Ayumu from Peacemaker Kurogane

If that fails, there's gotta be a brown haired chick in Love Hina or the Sailor Moon series somewhere, cause that's all I can think of right now.

Kaiba - Yugioh (Battle City)

How dark is her hair? If it's a dark brown, she could do Yomiko Readman (Read or Die).

Perhaps Mine Fujiko in one of her many, many outfits. (but you'd so need a Lupin cosplayer with that one!)

http://www.animegalleries.net/album/348

Milly from Trigun

http://www.animegalleries.net/album/953

If she doesn't mind dressing as a guy, Duo Maxwell.

http://www.animegalleries.net/album/166

Yukari-sensei (Azumanga Daioh)

http://www.animegalleries.net/album/851

Yomi (Azumanga Daioh)

http://www.animegalleries.net/album/848

I guess it all comes down to what she'd be willing to wear/put time into. Most of these costumes would be pretty easy to throw together, though.

Noooooooooooooooooooo

Yomiko Readman is to sacred and should be saved for her aunt to cosplay.  Her nice single nerdy aunt who hides in the house reading books for the last 10 years.  The best thing for her mom to feel comfortable she should bring her single sisters and friends to the con.

Kasumi from Ranma 1/2 would be a pretty easy one to do:

Ahh.
So many good ideas. Thank you all!  =w=  <333

@ pinkrandomattack - I know what you mean. I guess I should have mentioned it up towards the top. Let's go for an age appropriate cosplay for my mom, eh?  xD  I seriusly doubt she'd ever want to throw on a sailor fuku or something.

@ Trumby - As soon as I read Yukari-sensai's name, I squealed. This is definitely a posibility. It would be easy for my mom to do, and she would be cosplaying, but wouldn't have a bunch of attention on her considering not a lot of people would probably recognize her.  :3

@ Vondan - Sorry.  :c
All four of my aunts are happily married. Should anything turn rocky in their relationships though, I'll gladly drag them up to Kumoricon in the future.  <3

@ yukimizu - Kurenai would be nice to do.  :]  Except, I'm afraid that's just a bit over the top for my mom. Maybe if she suddenly changes her mind and wants to dress up, then I'll open that option up to her.

Your mom and mine should meet up at Kumori Con. This is her 5th convention and she'll be cosplaying Gai-sensei XD I still don't believe she can do it without making it sexy-no-jutsu. But she tells me other wise.

She loves having other moms to hang out that know a little bit more than 'Uhm... I heard there was cute cartoons here so my daughter brought me along?' But then again she's thankful to have any mom around instead of my friends.

My group will also be doing Naruto. My little sister is being Lee-Chibi, my mom is being Gai-sensei... I have no clue what I'm going to be but they keep bothering me to be Iruka again. Then my friend thinks she may go as Itachi if she puts it together.

For your mom, if she's going to dress up I think it's best if she went from a series that another person in your group was going as. It's always funner when people want to take series pictures...

Kurenai could maybe be doable since her hair is like your mom maybe.

Yusuke's mom might be another possibility that's REALLY easy if she'd straighten her hair.

I'll think more about it and get back to you with some more ideas.

i think yukari sensei would be freakin adorable, but i dont think you would know she was dressed up unless you all were doing an azumanga daioh cosplay.  thats one of the problems with "street clothing" cosplay.  sometimes you dont know someone it dressed up at all.

It's easy, and simple.... She could cosplay Edward and Al Elric's mom from Full Metal Alchemist. Simple costume. Purple dress, white apron...

I figured out of all mine, Yomiko and Yukari-sensei would be the best fit. Sure she probably wouldn't be recognized, but hey, YOUR group knows it and that's all that matters, right? :D
