Any other foodnetwork/cookin show fans out there?
« on: September 21, 2011, 10:04:30 am »
Hiya so when not watchin anime I watch the food network and consider myself a bit (be it untrained) of a foodie
I do think it makes me a better cook as I can watch an episode of something and it gets stuck in the head and later I can attempt making it and while it might not be as pretty it tends to taste pretty awesome. I am known for making awesome gravy, and for a annual feast called Jaz-giving

Some of the shows I like are good eats, Food Network Challenge, iron chef,
Dinner/restaurant: Impossible, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped
The Best Thing I Ever Ate, The Great Food Truck Race ect, really I can find something to have on in the back ground while I am not really paying attention to the tv ya know? I do watch top chef too.

All that said~

I saw a promo for their show "The Next Iron Chef" where they put top chefs thru challenges so one can get the title of iron chef, and the list had me going like this :o

Anne Burrell (Host of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Worst Cooks in America), sous-chef for Mario Batali on Iron Chef America, been called his secret to winning.
Michael Chiarello  host of Easy Entertaining
Elizabeth Falkner  of Citizen Cake and Orson,
Alex Guarnaschelli  Chef and Host, Alex’s Day Off, Judge, Chopped
Chuck Hughes Chef and Host, Chuck’s Day Off  defeated Bobby Flay in Battle Canadian Lobster
Robert Irvine Chef and Host, Dinner: Impossible, Restaurant: Impossible, Worst Cooks in America
Beau MacMillan Executive Chef defeated Bobby Flay in Battle American Kobe Beef in Season 3
Spike Mendelsohn (Chef and Owner, Good Stuff Eatery
Marcus Samuelsson (Chef and Judge, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped, Next Food Network Star
Geoffrey Zakarian (Chef Judge, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, Chopped

I joke that the judging is going to go like this "I am sorry chef---- but you food was only extremely delicious where chef---'s food was uber delicious"

I used to watch Food Network all the time in the break room when I worked retail.  Good Eats was always my favorite.  Chopped was good, too.  Although one of the female judges always seemed so rude. XD Throwdown with Bobby Flay was great, too.  Heck, any show with Bobby Flay or Alton Brown is always fun to watch.  Ace of Cakes was awesome, but that's not Food Network, is it?  Cupcake Wars was fun, too.  Is it still on?

OH MAN HOW COULD I FORGET DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES?  Great show!  I hated the guy (Guy) for awhile, but he has seriously grown on me to the point that I couldn't imagine anyone else hosting the show.

Alton Brown is awesome, he is the host of next iron chef.  I love the nerdy refernces made on good eats or other shows,  Ace of cakes was a food network show, ended last year, and yes cupcake wars is fun, and still on

the lady from chopped I think your talking about is Alex Guarnaschelli  ?

she is one of the contestants too.  I am curious to how she will do, doing the battle cooking instead of the judging

Yes, her! She always seems so nasty. :<  Like, I rarely see her smile.. and when she does, it disappears within a second or so and seems so insincere. >:|

Yeah we (hubby and younger brother) have noticed that too, tho we have also noticed often she will say her opinion on a dish and the 2 other judges (usually guys) will seem to take joy in disagreeing with her and the peep they prefered gets moved up.

Its funny tho I have the recipes I use but really its more like my creme brulle recipe is Alton browns, and my chocolate mousse recipe is Tyler Florence's

I have noticed a lot of times that the other 2 guys will usually disagree with her . . but I just always chalked that up to her seeming so rude to the contestants that the other judges felt bad for the person.

It's possible they edit it to make her look nastier, too.

Although, I firmly believe she is an extremely fair judge . . she just doesn't do take part in all the niceties and at times she comes off as rude to me.

I can hope, I am a chef Robert fan (not dissin Anne she rocks too) remember she had paula dean on her side and butter and sugar are like half her vocabulary.

I think its been close enough that there will def be some compationtion between the 2.  I do think they both have a bit of an edge over some of the others as anne works in kitchen stadium, and Roberts dinner impossible experince.

My grandmother makes candy as her retirement job, my mom bakes AMAZING brownies, and im the cupcake princess lol my sister cant bake to save her life. So my mom, nana and i always watch the food network. As of recently, The Chew is my new food show. Its great for parents, even though im not one, i still love it.  Though i have to say, even though i am PrincessMissCupcake, i hate cupcake wars. Watched it a few times, and cant stand it.

O.O I got a message from Kerry Vincent on face book, she posted about the new cake challenge Sunday, and I responded about possibly being in the hospital thank goodness for DVR and she posted

""Gad take care of yourself; baby first, Challenge last thing on your mind in this case!"
