Errr... can I not be a weeaboo based on the fact that I actually know some Japanese, have studied Japanese culture and have taught Go?

I enjoy:

House
Glee
Football (World Cup woo~!)
Handegg (SuperBowl woo~!)
Harry Potter
Discworld
David Bowie (Does this count?)
Stephen King's books

Most of the above is not particularly American but I also am involved in:

Daughters of the American Revolution (I'm a debutante for this year~)
Children of the American Revolution (I'm actually Washington state president)
Daughter of Union Veterans of the Civil War (I work on archiving documents)

Which is pretty much super American. ='D

And on the Canadian side I'm planning on joining Unity of Empire Loyalists.

So besides cosplay I'm pretty much durr let's learn about history and respecting our flag and country. ' w ';

Mehhhhhh too lazy.  The fact that the only Japanese things I own are my PSP's, my PSP games, my DDR games, my monitor (which I only have because it was free), a totoro plushie, my PS2, my NES and games for it, Metal Gear Solid, and my GameCube and game for it (MKDD), I think I can safely say I'm pretty not weeaboo.  I took 2 years of Japanese in high school because German was full and I didn't want to take Spanish and French didn't really appeal to me.

Some AMERICAN things I'm fond of:
Roland (they manufacture in China though)
A&W (it's probably Canadian though)
Blizzard Entertainment (if only they weren't Californians)
RoXoR Entertainment (love me some PIU Pro)
Bethesda Softworks (they're pretty alright)
Wizards of the Coast (I can never remember which coast though)

That's about it.  I'm more into European stuff.

So... um...

What is a Weeaboos? The Encyclopedia Dramatica reroutes to
Wapanese and then proceeds to berate me...

*sniff*

I like stuff and things... and I don't care where that stuff or
things comes from. I like things from Earth though... Martian
stuff doesn't have the same value to me... Although I once bought
a wig that I'm pretty sure was/is/will be/never was from Gallifrey...
Good quality but I felt it lacked realism I got in my Earthean wigs.

But I digress...

Weeaboo is a derogatory term used to describe someone with an irrational and socially inappropriate obsession with the country of Japan as a blatant whole.  Usually the term is used exaggeratively towards anyone with an interest in anything Japanese, usually by people who seek to lessen attention drawn to their own social imperfections.

Yeah...I like Japan and the Japanese culture but I'm not going to dedicate my life to worshiping it.
I've been there and it's a nice place and I'd like to experience it more but I think in the long run, I'd like America better.
Why? Simple!

Freedom (mainly)
Disney
The people! (Yeah a lot of them are assholes but that's what makes us America)
Our food joints. (We have everything here!)
The OLD cartoons. The new ones mostly suck...
American Theatre
Our constitution.

And above all!
My ancestors came here for one reason or another out of all the other places in the world. So that must make it pretty damn awesome. ;P

And if we didn't live in America, we probably wouldn't be this obsessed with anime and things Japanese. It's being American that makes us like it so much.
America is just one huge country of thieves as we steal things from other places and turn it into our own. That's what being a melting pot is!! We go, "Oh, I like that..." and then we take it and make it our own. Like when you kidnap a child...You cut it's hair and give it new clothes so no one recognizes it anymore even though inside it's still the same thing. ^^

*And of course, obesity.

I disagree- Actually, I'd go so far to say that America invents things, and other countries improve upon them. The "melting pot" comes from the fact that we are a "nation of immigrants." As for us only liking anime because we're American? Untrue. There are plenty of weaboos from foreign lands as well.

To prove my unweaboo-ness:
Hamburgers
Twitter
Tex-Mex food
Little Caesar's
John Coolidge Adams
Lady Gaga
Crayola
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Tomatoes
International House of Pancakes
Pepsi Cola
DC Comics
The Sims
American Music in general
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (British, but stfu)
Sinclair Lewis
Scrubs
That 70's Show
The Edsel (they're actually nice looking cars despite the marketing failure. .)
Stephen Colbert

I am America, and so can YOU.

Football, not soccer.
Tabasco Sauce
Drive-thru fast food. Well I don't love it, but I haven't seen it in any anime so far. Even the A&W in Asobi ni Iku Yo is sit down style.
Cheese curds, speaking of A&W.
I really should think about going digital. One look and it's obvious I am not Weeaboo.
'66 Mustang
'67 Camaro
'72 Javelin
My grandmother's '76 Buick Electra 225 Limited. Man, so nice to drive that thing at 90 mph. Smooth as silk.
Kentucky, or Tennessee bourbon.
Clear Creek Distillery's anything they make!
A few things that i know are illegal in Japan, but i won't say here.

I have a confession to make.

That is all.

I can prove I'm not a weeaboo:

I GET ALONG WITH THE NORMAL PEOPLE AT SCHOOL.

Annndddd:

I don't act obnoxiously loud in hopes of drawing attention away from the fact that I'm socially awkward. <3

I'm not a stupid fangirl. ;D

I rarely actually watch anime at all. I havent even watched any anime since con. I've just been watching Henry Rollins spoken word videos. It's basically stand up comedy, but it's coming from one of the best punk singers of all time.

I'm confused, I thought we were trying to prove we love AMURICA.

Why do people keep posting English, New Zealand, Canadian, and Mexican things that they love?
They may distance you from Japan but they AIN'T AMURICAN!

Supernatural!
Oh wait, it's being made into an anime.  Darnnit.
***Fangirl squee*** A Supernatural anime? Really??
Who is producing it? Will the canon stars be the voice actors?
Thank you for making my day.
I've been a fan of Jensen's since I was a little kid watching him as Eric on Days of Our Lives and of Jared's since Gilmore Girls. And Mischa...my favorite dynamic last season was Dean/Castiel.

As for my non-Weeabooness: I grew up in a town that was 60% Jewish & 30% Asian and most of my friends or at least their parents were new to the states & spoke Asian languages. In kindergarten I was already going to Japanese Buddhist holidays & Ginza fests with my best friend, whose dad had told me about been interred at Mazandar. (For those not knowing, during WWII the US had internment camps for Japanese people on US soil, even if they were citizens.) For a random Jewish American that was a lot of Japanese culture immersion for a 5 year old. Then when I was put as a 2nd grader into 3rd grade math & finished that in 1 trimester, they didn't want to put me in 4th grade math, so they had me tutor the Japanese exchange students, Akiko Hatori & Chiye Yajima. Hope to find them some day.

As for US & British shows I follow(ed): Doctor Who, Glee, LOST, about to start Torchwood. Supernatural,Gilmore Girls, The Good Guys, Lie to Me, I sometimes watched FlashForward for its LOST alums. Everything Joss Whedon has ever touched. Web series The Guild & Legend of Neil. Red Dwarft, Black Adder, ST:TNG, The Colbert Report (now *that'* American, yes?)

Oh and my cosplays are usually not anime. This year it was Glee & Doctor Who. Last year it was Luna Lovegood from HP (film version). For MEW and/or Orycon likely to include Rocky Horror Picture Show.

On the contrary, just claiming you like things non-japanese is the name of the game.

For me, while I enjoy a lot of anime over American cartoons just for the sheer quality difference, American videogame companies beat their Japanese counterparts 90% of the time HANDS DOWN.

I'm also keenly aware that Japan has almost as many racist a-holes as America. No intentions to go over there just to find the source, so to speak.

Objectively speaking, there isn't much difference between America and Japan, in terms of the way people think and our capacities for good and evil.

Subjectively speaking, AMERICA! F*** YEAH! Coming again to save the mother f#$*in' day yeah!

>People thinking you aren't a weeaboo just because you like something that's American.

No offense but though it is a matter of personal taste, it's also a matter of your attitude towards it. Not that I'm claiming anyone posting here is a weeaboo (Though, I do know 50% or more of the forum users are weeaboos) but I think it's a little silly going "Oh, I really, really love anime. But I do this/like this/eat this"

Also I was a weeaboo for 4 years. I'm glad I graduated from that time in my life.
