So my grandma just sent me about 4 inches of papers concerning my ancestors move from the Netherlands to America and such. My grandma says she wants me to read through all of it and learn about my culture.... So far I'm 10 pages in and everything is in Dutch.

WTF grandma, WHY DO YOU EXPECT SUCH THINGS FROM ME!!!!!!!

That being said it's still really cool though.

That's pretty sweet. Maybe you can have a translator read through it for you?
My family moved here because they were kicked out of Denmark lol. I'm not even kidding.

That's what happened to my Scottish family a  LONGGGG time ago. They killed some rival clan and kept stealing cows and finally the people in charge of the area got tired of their shenangans and sent them on their merry little way. XD

You should make an ancestry.com account.... It's free for just the generic profile and you might find some really cool stuff!

If you really want to know more stuff but don't feel like paying for the sites archives you can always just google family names and stuff like I do. =]

At least that's what the "history of the clan" states, then again we did chop some clan leaders head off and affix it to the outside of our castle so we were kind of asking for it. lmao....

When King James VI of Scotland succeeded to the throne of England in 1603, the border frontier became the center of a new united kingdom. The King used his new authority to deal with the unruly border clansmen as ruthlessly as his successors dealt with the highland clans a century and a half later. A proclamation of 1605 forbade borderers, "except nobles and gentlemen unsuspected of felony or theft," from carrying "jacks, spears, lances, swords, daggers, steel caps, hackbuts, pistols, platesleaves, and suchlike." It also forbade the owning of any horse above the value of 50 shillings sterling or 30 pounds Scots. The government deported or executed the worst of the troublemakers, including many Johnstones. The old border frontier ceased to exist within a few short years.

So yeah... a good chunk of the clan ended up fleeing to Ireland for a bit, and then subsequently America.

God I'm such a geneology freak. XD

Since we're talkin' about ancestors and all....

http://www.earlyaviators.com/ewysong.htm

That's my great-great grandfather.

The painting of the water and the plane is in my hallway. :3

And he was buddies with Amelia Earhart and had something of hers so now we have it.

It's this little jewelry box with a fishy on top and there's this signature she wrote in an envelope inside. (fer authenticity :D)

He died the year I was born though. : / So I never met him.
I miss 2010.

So some of my ancestors were the Parsons in Pennsylvania. In colonial times two of the Parson brothers left Massachusetts to found towns in PA. Their sisters stayed home and when Salem went all witch crazy their home town decided to have their own witch burning and declared that the Parson sisters were witches. Before they could stand trial the Parson brothers rode into town, busted their sisters out of jail, and then rode to the villages the brothers had founded in Pennsylvania.

You guys are all so knowledgeable about your families. :/
I can easily say I don't know much except the following:

Biological Father - Pure German Bloodline : Branch family to the Heinz {My last name is Heinze. An 'e' was added to the end when the family moved to America.}
Mother's Family - French Bloodline : Bordier - Largest private bank in all of France {For friends on Facebook, it is the name I use as my surname.}

I am the fourth Generation of my mother's family to be born in America and the first where my first language was not French. {It was English! Shocker there, ya? ;P }

My full name is German because Allen refused to let my mother give me a French name. I was supposed to be named Belle.
My brother has a French name because she used the English pronunciation and didn't tell Allen about it's French origin.

My email, 'guy1656' comes from the French-Canadian side of things. (My surname too, of course!)
Our oldest known ancestor grew up in a long-gone town in Gasconny called "Mûron," which meant a kind of berry (and it might be related to 'marionberry' or 'mulberry' in English. OK, so poe-dunk Gasconny.

He was a master miller and he emigrated from LaRochelle in 1654, arriving on the river-isle of the St. Lawrence River called "Île d'Orleans" in 1656. The stone house he built is still there today, now in the 11th generation by primogeniture. I saw it once in my life in the 1980s.
How he got going was that the Monseignieur de Laval gave him lands to hold in fief so he could tell those landholders what to do so that there would be a crop and something to run in his mills (not to mention having bread and hard-tack to make it through the winter - also good for the settlers.) Some folks may also recognize Laval as a university in Quebec (my dad went there) and also a major agro machinery company.

Our families intermarried with an extended family of Ouillettes. For those who remember how immigrants sometimes changed their last names to 'blend in' with the new country, being English or Scots wasn't always pleasant in New France - especially when the (British) Red Coats keep attacking you. So you may recognize 'Willette' in the name above, and we also had some Sutherlands, McGraw -> McGrew -> Grew -> Groulx hanging out in the woodwork. And not a few Huron Indians.

So that's us from snow and huge-blueberry country...

EDIT: also one more point of weirdness: the -eau of my last name adds an 'x' for the plural, and not an 's' or an apostrophe 's.'

I went to Fred Meyer's electronics department today.  I got another exxpansion pack for the SIms 2 and i got a new camera. Although as memory chips go i think I might've overdone it. I went from 16 Megabytes to 16 Gigabytes.

Took a really bad fall & smashed my face into a sidewalk. Broke 3 of the bones that make up the "orbital" structure under my right eye. Got a CT scan last night & have been waiting for a call from the cosmetic surgeon to make an appointment. Sounds like they are going to be putting a plate in to hold the bones in place while they heal...ugh...talk about anxious.
