I apologize for the double post but wanted to bumo the thread since I need advice and how to rescue this cosplay. D=

So I got home from a totally lousy day at work and found my package waiting for me on my bed. I tried it on and sadly the top is significantly darker than the purple pictured online. =/

I'll have to use it anyway, but I have to say I'm really not pleased with how this costume is turning out at all. Also the red paint I used on my goggles ended up drying into a hot pink color even though it's clearly labeled "fire brick red" so I need to buy a new color to repaint that part (should be the same color as the lenses...) The wings are the wrong shape, but I couldn't find any other ones that would work well (need to add all the black lines) but I don't think I'll be able to avoid having stupid looking wing straps, and also the top doesn't actually have true sleeves and just melds into the shirt, so the wing straps kind of make the top bunch weird.... man, and I was feeling really good about finally getting stuff done too.

Here's a pic of what I have and the original Butterfree Gijinka pic so you guys can see the parts I'm struggling with.

Also this shirt is really unflattering... sad times.

Well, I believe that I've found the Ranma cosplay that I'd like to get. It'll be $84.99 total, not including the shoes or a wig. (No way my hair'll grow out that long by KCon '11...)

Dubaby!!

To hide the wings straps, if you dare, you can put two small holes in the back of the shirt and slip the straps through so they will be on your arms under the shirt.
Just make sure you hem the holes you cut so they don't fray and turn into a terrible disaster you can't later fix.

If you can't find the wings you want, then they aren't that hard to make. Find a see through fabric you like and buy some wire from a place like wallmart and make a frame. This is how I made Shay's Pikachu tail hold its shape.

So I finally tried on my butterfree outfit with the proper wig and shoes and it looks A LOT better now. The wig and shoes both ended up a little dark as well, so now the shirt looks like it fits in with everything else. =D

I'm making 3 viking cosplays for HTTYD. I'm so ****ing excited. I have ruffnut mostly done, just need her wig, belt, shoes, helmet, and her arm things. Tuffnut is about the same, except we need leggings for him as well. But his shirt is close to done. Snotlout isn't a problem yet.

Everyone else for now I don't need to worry about on my list. :/ Not until January or so.

I am just about done with Max~ I just added on the whiskers and made the tail a bit shorter. Tomorrow I'm gonna hem the sleeves and legs, and it'll be done for halloween. But for MEW, I might take it in an inch on each side, cause its really big xD I'll try to get pictures tomorrow at some point~

Trying to finish up Ramona. I had a helluva time finding sweater fleece that matched the color of her sweater, then I moved on to try to dye sweaters, then I found the perfect color but it was too big and had raglan sleeves. I put the white stripes on the sleeves and have been taking everything in. I still have a poof on the underarm that I'm not sure howto get rid of. My friend says it's because the arm hole is too big and there's not much I can do about it.
Oh well, I still need to close the other sleeve that you can't really see and add the ribbed fabric back on the bottom of the sleeve. Then all the clothes parts are done. Then onto finishing up my subspace bag 2.0 and making my hammer.

boogie: do you have spare fabric from taking in the sides? your friend is probably right, but it is fixable if you add more fabric there.

I don't have enough to recreate the raglan part to be a normal sleeve unfortunately >: I thought about purchasing another sweater from the store so I might be able to use the fabric to do that but it won't get here on time.

So my wings for my Butterfree cosplay were really not turning out the way I wanted, so I bought some wire and rebuilt the shape of the top wings so they look more rounded. Got about 1/4 of the way through covering the entire thing in white fabric, then all that's left is to cut out the black detailing for the wings and put my antennae on my goggles. I'm thinking this should all be done by tomorrow night. =]

(Especially now that I've beaten Fable 3 and it's less of a distraction....)

We had a little shoot thing last night because she wanted pictures.

Butterfree is FINALLY finshed.... for how many issues I was having with it originally, I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

My wings and googles are sitting completed in my lap, and all is right in the world. =]

Today, the secondhand wig I bought from cosplay.com arrived in the mail! It's an Amphigory D-boy wig in 1B, a "natural black". It's my first wig ever, so it took me well over 15 minutes to get it on properly >.<;; But when I finally got it settled, I discovered something that blew my mind.

I'm wearing the wig in the photo.
The wig complements my natural hair so well, I can actually brush my real bangs over it... and you can't tell the difference.

I can't freaking wait to get this thing styled up.

Thanks. The only form of macro I had involving that joke had Uncle Iroh's face (from A:tla) shopped over Stan Lee's, and it was a dig at the live action A:tla movie. Not very applicable.

I just realized I haven't been posting my progress at all. Derp derp.

-Toph wig is falling apart a lot. Gonna need a way to layer in more extensions that won't leave it so fragile, and generally work out the frizziness.
-Got almost everything for my fem!Conrad cosplay. All that's left is the wig, contacts, leggings, and possibly a headband.
-Have fabric and shirt for Rin.

Now to actually make everything. bleeeeh

my necklaces are almost done. The silver wing looks silver but I want it to look more like the silver chain it is on which is more of a chrome. I think chrome paint can help rather than silver but is there any other way to make it look more like chrome?

@Oslap and Washougal- Yeah, that's where I was thinking about looking. I figured I'd try anyways, maybe I could nab something usable from someone used.
I should probably get it soon so I can practice on it. Since a skateboard is about half of the size of my longboard it'll take some getting used to.

@Nikkiolie- Pics of what you are doing? The way you worded that is kinda confusing.

I got it figured out but the silver paint I was putting on the charm looked more like a gray than silver and it was rather dark. I have a necklace that is a bright shinny silver that the charm will hang off and I wanted the "silver" (which was really gray) to look more like that. I got it as close as I can without dipping it in actual silver

@links - You might also find one at a Value Village, but I'm guessing with that one. If that also doesn't work, look around ar various sporting good stores, skate product stores, or shopping marts like Target, and see who has the cheapest options for ya.

Thanks. I took a look at the Wal-Mart website, and it looks like most of their boards are around $30. Some were as low as $8, some were as high as $50-something. I'm sure the prices in the stores are close to those listed online.
