Scout cosplay

I think it'd be kinda cool to go on a k-con campout but looking at the people signing up I'd likely be the oldest one by a number of years....

Also, if monies are an issue, there are plenty of free campsites off the beaten path

Then you'll be our Scoutmaster and I'll be one of your assistants in the Old Goat Patrol. My troop 224 really called their SM's and ASM's The Old Goat Patrol. But oh man, who would I cosplay clad in my eagle uniform?
Andhey not that it's official, but I could bring an actual Art Merit Badge book and we could blast through the requirements for it, and make our own un-lisenced, Anime Art merit badges to wear.

The moment someone mentioned Meriwether, my eyes lit up and my mind opened up it's old trunk of scout memories blended with new random cosplay madness ideas.

Oh well, like I said. If there's another place in the area that's cheaper and not as epic and large, and you actually get to use your own tents, then I'm down for it.

Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground

Established in 1947, Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground is one of the oldest established campgrounds in Clatsop County, located 5 miles south of Highway 26 near milepost 20, along the Nehalem River on Lower Nehalem River Road. Spruce Run Creek cuts through the camping area, making it a beautiful place for a summer getaway. The campground is open year-round, although garbage/recycling service and firewood are only available May through October. Each site offers a picnic table and fire ring. Fishing at nearby Lost Lake is a favorite activity of veteran campers.
The campground has 32 drive-in sites and 5 walk-in tent sites, a day use picnic area, sealed vault toilets and, in the summer season, flush toilets. There is also a hand pump drinking water source.

Camping fees are:
Vehicle site:
$10.00/night
Each extra vehicle:
$2.00/night
Walk-in tent site:
$5.00/night
Firewood is available for sale from May through September.

The Oregon Department of Forestry has set up 4 dispersed sites for camping, which include a picnic table and fire ring, on the Lower Nehalem Road beyond Spruce Run Campground. There are no camping fees for the dispersed sites. However, there is no access to a restroom or garbage service.

When did rock climbing not become camping, yes maybe the man made walls aren't so great. Though if you have climbed before you would know some crazy people do multi-day climbs where they sleep ON AN OVERHANGING SUPPORT clipped to the sheer side of mountains some times.

Sand lake seems like a good choice, does anyone have any off road four wheelers?

I wasn't thinking of rock wall climbing. I'd prefer a long walk down the beach and back. Oh no, they'd never let us touch the bows and rifles, let alone the dining hall.

People. Seriously, we're going to Sand Lake, because I know the camp hosts and can get a discount, plus, if I ask mom/ken I might be able to bring the jeep down.

@Cam: I know what your talking about, but the Rock Walls I'm talking about are the ones you see at Bullwinkles. And the other activities I mentioned, I've been to Girl Scout Camp, I know what their 'camping' guidelines are, and that kind of camping is not in my deffinition. By my deffinition, camping involves a tent, fire pit, and woods/beach/mountain, but since I don't want to risk anyone getting hurt, I'd rather we get hurt in a public place where OTHER people are.

Aside from that, the decision is final we're going to Sand Lake, any objections feel free to leave. Now, as for the date, that is more than welcome for debate. and as a reminder, EVERYONE needs to pitch in for the sites, and yes I do mean more that one since there's too many of us to shove in one site, unless someone has a large enough tent.

@TanisNikana Yay, even if just maybe.

I know what you mean about girl/boy scout camping. The already set up camp sites from places like baldwin + Meriwether are way restrictive, some not letting you make a firepit even... Troop camping was much more lax, and could be vary real camping however.

How much are each site going to be? Haven't been there in a long time so I don't remember the fee, or modified discount.

I'll bring half of a 1/10th ton of marshmallows with me and some 'shmellow sticks, as well as a stash of soda to share and books. Must bring manga otherwise it won't be an official cosplay campout. I am hoping to have a 2-man/max 4-man tent before the trip, so 1-3 more players can cram in if they need to.

It's possible...Oh dollar treeeee? A sandbag styled bunker, with a tarp as cover and one bag as a pillow.

Instead I'll just bring enough to make a plushie sized tent, maybe 4 or 5, and we will eat it away bit by bit.

Meanwhile I'm bringing a tent with room for 4, and my own sleeping bag with room for 1. Actually if someone has a spare tent pole or knows if REI could have spare parts, I already have a tent.

If you get like 3-4 sites next to each other, I think it would be okay as long as one of them had a big area for a fire/dinning are where everyone could be together. Then no one is left out, and its just the sleeping quarters that are divided.

Wasn't it established just now that there would be separate sleeping quarters for both genders?
Yes, there would be separate tent arrangements within the two sides, but splitting the guys/girls up is a no-brainer.

I suggest the addition to the list should be how many can comfortably fit and how many max capacity spots their tents have. Later it would develop into brackets of who stays where.

Oh by the way if I built a marshmallow tent and sleeping bag, the squirrels and bears would surely take me away to their secret base and torment me with pictures of their summer vacation. The horror!
