2009 November 22 General Meeting
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:11:07 pm »
The first General Meeting of the 2010 convention year will be held Sunday, November 22, at 1:00 PM at the Multnomah County Library - Midland ("Midland Library") on SE 122nd Ave.  The meeting will probably be pretty short, leaving plenty of time for break-outs before we have to vacate the building at 4:30 (the library closes at 5:00).

Google Map
805 SE 122nd Ave
Portland, OR 97233

General meetings are open to the public. Meet and plan with other staff, join staff or become a volunteer, and learn about open staff positions.  Bring interested friends!

This meeting, we will announce any significant changes to the org chart for 2010 and open staff registration.  Registration forms will be available for those who have discussed their 2010 position with their 2010 Director.

Applications will be available for those looking for new opportunities, whether new to Kumoricon/Altonimbus Entertainment or exploring options for continuing contributions.  Directors may or may not request applications at individual discretion.

Wow, I'm bummed. I really wanted to be there, but I have a personal commitment (being someone's ride from the Eugene airport who is coming in from Hawaii). If his flight is on time I might be able to arrive by 3 -- how likely is it that departmental breakouts would still be going on by then? Is it possible to get a staff reg from before the meeting & send it in with payment with someone going to the meeting?
Blessings everyone!

Same with about 2.5 hours each way on the highway--hence my inquiry how late breakouts are likely to go

SE 122, fyi,

Noted.  Thanks.

...how likely is it that departmental breakouts would still be going on by then? Is it possible to get a staff reg from before the meeting & send it in with payment with someone going to the meeting?

Two things.

First, I personally think it is very likely that breakouts will still be in progress, but check with the Director you want to see to determine whether he or she expects the same.

Second, while I may have staff forms available online before the meeting, I'm not quite prepared to commit to it.  However, your staff benefits (e.g., voting rights and staff area web access) from last year will last until the third meeting after this one (or ninety days, whichever is greater).  Which is to say, the most significant gain from submitting your form at this meeting is to fill my heart with joy.  ;)

There's also bragging rights, peace of mind that you've completed the first step towards your part in next year's con, and the knowledge that your ten dollars makes the board retreat in December just a little easier to budget for. ;)

I am interested in this meeting very much because I want to know more about the search for the board appointed staff.
I gotta know who the Facilities Liaison is for my cartography.

If I do hear that from Jaki (I've tried asking, but I think it's really going to just depend on who's there and how many questions they ask & evolve spontaneously), then I'll likely try to hoof it up there...I tried convincing my companion to hop ship at PDX & let me pick him up there, but he wouldn't play :(

AHHG!!

I knew this was gonna be tight... oh jebus i hope I can request off that day...
my paycheck that week is gonna be soooo itsy bitsy!

Uh.. Kylite, you live in my area right? If I can get my day off request working...
(believe me this is a high negative possibility that I am super sad about.. Tuesdays are
hard for some reason) Then I could quite possibly pick you up and take you with me
does that sound cool?

Also, 122nd Library? Seriously? I used to live on 122nd & Division! Wootness! Go S.E.!

~Allykat

EDIT: Somehow everything I just said made no sense whatso-ever... I must have been looking
at the WAY wrong calendar! (how did I get into december)

Um, if I didn't totally eff up my requests off then I should certainly be able to be there! YAY
uhh... I don't know about giving people rides now though... I'll be in portland that morning after
rocky horror picture show... I'll see what I can do though!

The location is farther out than we normally use, but you can get there via Tri-Met (the 71), or there is a parking lot if you are driving.

Most of the libraries were busy in November... since we are looking for space and cost (there is no charge for using the library meeting room), this is what was available.  Hopefully, future meetings will be closer in again.

Yah, FYI if coming from downtown, the 4 and the 20 both come into this area fairly regularly and then
you just hop on the 71 or walk the 5 blocks or so the rest of the way to the library, its a big building with a clock! yay!

How is it far?  Its maybe like a 10min drive from the hotel, I wouldn't call that far.  Just about the same distance for me.

I hope this library has one BIG meeting room... (my library has room for like 10 :D  )

OH POO D:

I have the second-to-last meeting for MEW Con to be at, and it happens to be at EXACTLY the same time (1pm November 22nd) IN VANCOUVER.  Hopefully this meeting will survive without me because there are at least 20 staffers (and any attendee who plans on going to any panels, viewing rooms, events, workshops, or contests) relying on me to be at the MEW Con meeting. :P

Would it be okayt to take my son with? He is 7, almost 8. and very well behaved. He can read or play his DS during the meeting? (I want to spend time with him since it is my weekend, also I can't find a babysiter.)

If it is okay for him to come. Then I drive a car pool for Beaverton or on the way people. with him with me, I still have 3 opens sits in my car.

Our general meetings are open to the public, and there's no current policy or rule excluding children.  You are the best judge of whether your son will behave appropriately.

You know, just be as considerate as most folks expect at a movie theater *shrug*

It would certainly be a nice notion to pursue.  I wouldn't mind the meetings being a little less chaotic.  I'm sure the board can empathize with that desire.

Yeah, you'll be fine Roddy.
we've had plenty of babies and toddlers around the meetings in the past and I've never seen it be a problem. I'm sure we've had kids at at least one meeting in the past. If he has a DS then I'm sure that will be MUCH more interesting to a 7 year old than anything else going on.

Well, unless he gets to watching Guy's AMVs.  ;)

Btw... good video! looks plenty smooth, can't even tell there are equipment problems!

Yay!
The video quality is gonna look better than previous years since I was clued in to some upload limits and settings I hadn't seen.

Video 2 is up now.

Did I meet you steelychan? Can you help me put a face with your name?

Oh, and I'm going to start my videos uploading now! There's only three this meeting! It was so short before breakouts!

right... I was the one with the brown curly hair and was in the back row close to the aisle. I also had the purse with lots of buttons. I have blue glasses and was a little quiet.... I talked to Ally and Brandon. My name is Emily. If you look at the video, Im the head thats attached to the brown coat... anywho... I have a question about the holiday party, is it casual or semi formal?

Everything I've seen makes it sound Casual. Food and games are the general plan.

No official date has been posted, but beltline insiders have heard rumors that it will be on January 9th or 10th.

Personally, I hope it's later in the month.
