My costume got dirty... any ideas?
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:29:28 pm »
Not sure if this belongs here...

I was ironing my Vampire Knight uniform, and I didn't know that my iron gave off a brown residue, so now the bias tape on my uniform looks like it got really dirty. I really don't want to make another one, so does anyone have an idea on how to wash it off without throwing it into the washer or dry cleaning it?

I'd just try a wet, but not soaking, washrag and lightly dab at it.

Take a soft bristle tooth brush, detergent, and water and try to brush all that you can away. Or tide-to-go. To PREVENT that stuff, clean your iron and ALWAYS use distilled water.

Try white vinegar or lemon juice (directly from lemon, not the diluted stuff you drink). Peroxide also can work as a whitener.
Bleach can be dangerous, unless you have a bleach pen and are extremely careful about not getting it on the black portion (use tape around the edges to protect it a bit and clean it up)

If nothing else works, get a seam ripper and remove the bias tape, then replace it with new white bias tape (it comes in 3 yd packages).

The bleach pen is a good idea... I got the back of my white dress cosplays dirty because people stepped on it, so I might use that idea ^-^
