New Fullmetal Alchemist Re-Imagining
« on: February 10, 2009, 10:32:16 pm »
Fullmetal Alchemist is being re-done, with the intent of staying closer to the manga. A teaser trailer for the anime has been posted here: http://www.hagaren.jp/, it is set to begin airing soon in Japan.

Anyone excited for this? Thoughts? I'm personally stoked like a fireplace, but that's just me.

Well I've got volume one, so I'm trying to get it, but I agree.

I just love how Al looks in that trailer. He is so much darker, more brutal looking. This should be really interesting.

Oh man I'm so excited for this! Thanks for posting the new trailer. It's looking like adults are targeted for this version, rather than the more child oriented version of the original. I hope it will be as good as it looks.

Yeah, I had no problems whatsoever with the original anime. It is one of my favorites of all time. It was beautiful in its style, it had humorous aspects as well as the serious, and was just a thrillride from beginning to end.

This new one though, looks equally amazing, but in slightly different ways (based off the trailer). Can't wait!

If the manga was better than the anime, and the anime was super awesome, and the new anime is based more closely off of the manga.....it should be uber super awesome. Can't really imagine how cool it could be!

According to Animenewsnetwork.com, the new FMA "premieres in Japan on April 5 at 5:00 p.m." Got some time to wait!

I think that's cool that Vic (and Aaron now, too) are taking their time to visit SakuraCon. I've heard some bad stories about Vic, but he seems like a really cool guy to me (and I have to believe some of those stories were said out of someone's particular bitterness and general bad attitude).

I still hope he comes down to Kumoricon some year.

Yeah I've heard some bad stuff too, but everything I have personally seen of him was nothing but good. Both years he was always out walking around the con, taking pics with people and such. In '07 he did a "service" (I didn't go to it so I don't know exactly what it was) on Sunday (since it was Easter) and after that he just hung out outside the panel room for a good hour talking to people, doing autographs, and taking pictures with people.

Yeah I believe Vic is a worship leader or something at his church. So he brought in a piano and played worship music in '07 because it was Easter. It was one of the best Easter services I had attended in awhile. He seemed like a pretty good guy to me. I haven't heard anything bad, but I don't purposely search for negative news on people. I'm excited that Aaron is going to the con. When Vic was there I pulled out the inside cover of the FMA movie and had him sign Ed. I'm go to try to get Aaron to sign the other part of it, then it'll be complete.  :D Oh man, already excited for con!

That's one thing that also gained a lot of respect from me. I was really excited to hear that (to some extent, at least) Vic seems to be Christian, and it is just awesome to me to know the voice of such a big character not only shares my faith but also carries it out at cons and whatnot. That's just super cool to me.

I had also heard that he actually had recorded a CD of worship hymns or something, sounded pretty amazing.

Another trailer for FMA has been posted, with scenes of "the first big mistake" (if you want to call it that). Looks mighty dark, and you can really start to see the differences in the animation style here.

Yeah, same here.

I've watched the anime, and I have read volume one of the manga already, so it will be nice to continue eventually here.

OMGOMGOMG

IT WAS SO GOOD

Kinda spoilerish thoughts, highlight to see:

I loved young!Honenhiem in the opening! He's so adorable! The new animation/art is fantastic! It's much closer to Arakawa's style and I adore it. Even though this episode was pretty much a filler it felt like a movie because the quality was so great. To me the Ice alchemist totally foreshadowed the corruption of the military... and the fact that at this point in time Ed & co. know nothing about it. AND YESSS, KIMBLEE YOU HORRIBLE PERSON. The fact that they're showing people like him so early exhibits how it'll be going through the manga's material at a faster pace. Hughes made me tear up...

YAY, CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK 8D

Very cool. The show started off with a bang, instantly capturing the personalities and characters that we grew used to (either in the manga or previous anime). Interesting way to start off, but awesome nonetheless.

And they kept Armstrong awesome! lol His sparkles and ego, it's great, heh.

I liked it. The change in some of the voices is kind of weird (mainly Roy), but I'll get used to that. Can't wait to see Greed!

An update in the FMA world, not sure whos heard yet, but in August they will be releasing The FMA Premium OVA's, which includes a bunch of shorts and things, including the State Alchemists VS The Seven Homonculi. (Weeee!!!) It has all the original English cast reunited doing voices, and, yeah....sounds amazing.

So look for that in August!

Yeah, this is from the original series, so the original animation style and team and stuff. Although from the trailer I saw, some of the shorts are much more comedic, so there are more chibis and loose-animation, there's also a live-action short of Alphonse in Tokyo, lol

You guys never saw the OVAs? They are all pretty good. I think "Kids" was my favorite of the three (never seen that live action one), though "Chibis" was freakin hilarious. Winry in that one was the best.

The "Alchemists vs Homunculi" and "Chibi" ones are more comedic and "Kids" is more..serious, I guess you could say.

"Alchemists vs. Homonculi" is comedic? Hm, wouldn't have guessed. I thought it sounded pretty epic, but no matter what turns these take, I know I'll love them.

And no I hadn't heard of the OVA's until this release was mentioned. OVA's are an area I tend to be generally in the dark in with most anime.

Ah, I see! I make sure to try to find everything I can with shows I really enjoy so I'm always on the lookout for OVA's and movies. As for the Alchemist vs Homunculi, I went back and rewatched it and the feel is more like the show. Guess it had been a while since I'd seen it :P

@tofu: Of the new show? Yeah so far the new version is awesome. Though this weeks episode was super sad /qq

Yeah, 10 was a /qq episode. I think the emotion in this one was shown better in this version, though. They left out something I really liked from the original episode, but still a really good episode.

I watched ep one because I had some time to kill today and it was really good. I'm glad I decided to watch it. I think I might like it more then the original, We'll see with episodes to come. :3 thank you for the opinion.

You're welcome! I definitely like this version much more than the original already.

...can't wait until we get to see Greed and the Devil's Nest crew. They were always my favorite characters.
