Keep your hopes up, Saiya-jin! It's still early, so people just may not have decided yet or don't frequent the forums. I would love to see more DBZ characters too!

I have DBZ and DBGT Trunks and DBZ Grand Kai lined up and 90% complete from K con '08.
I wanted to do the exact thing you had in mind. Hide the dragon balls around the con with a cosplay skit admission ticket on them, then whoever brings them in gets to make a wish right up on stage to the dragon. My skit idea varied into an RPG type battle SKIT that made for a good game to play outside of it too. Similar to the Rock-Paper-Scissors Battle Bucket they had going around this year. In fact, for Sakuracon and even next year, I would like to run either a dragon ball search across the con space, or have them all inside my own Dragon Bucket. The winner, being either the one holding the bucket at the end, or the one with the most wins (haven't decided yet), gets to make a wish to the dragon either on stage or on the side.

yeah... I just need to find a good cosplay outfit for Trunks... But i probably will never afford it. lawl... anywho...

Oh yes, I forgot...*goes super saiyan 4* I also have a near-complete Super Saiyan 4 Goku cosplay. So if you want, I can polish off my Future Trunks jacket with the capsule corp patch and I can let you borrow it at whatever con we meet up at. While I go as GT Trunks, Grand Kai or hopefully...Goku. Just as long as I get it back before we part ways at the end of it all.
As far as costume building goes, I just got my pieces at places like value village and goodwill, and the wigs either at halloween time or at party places.
Future Trunks:
Semi-short purple wig
Black tanktop
Denim jacket
Capsule Corp Patch (the hardest to find now)
Blue, dark blue or black jeans
Yellow boots, or yellow velcro strap boot covers
Spiked gold/blonde rocker wig (optional)
Dragonball GT Trunks:
Same purple wig
Black long sleeved shirt
Blue bandana
White shorts
Brown hiking boots
Tan sport coat
Brown Gloves

Last year I tried so hard to look for an Android 18 as the villain for my skit. Or Super 17 if I was GT Trunks or Goku
In your case, 18 or Videl are the easiest to make. And if you can find out how to get/make Videl's yellow boots, please share it with me because they are the same style as Future Trunks.

Actually the story behind the patch is funny...because I have the real patch, that I ordered from ebay before they took it off. So I DO have a real patch, but I would let you borrow the jacket w/ patch. And yeah, oh but one thing would be funny...Trunks and Trunks fusion!
The only thing that would change would be the clothing. Goten to Goku: "Ooh ooh maybe I can become two of me and fuse with myself that'd be cool huh dad? Goku: hehehe!" But then while you or I are fused trunks for 30 min, the other would be the Grand Kai or SS4 Goku or another cosplay.

grab a short purple wig

The quickest way to go super saiyan
grab a golden-blonde spiked wig
strobe light optional

Other than the wig and stuff, the rest of the outfit should be easily replicated, right?

I've been thinking about going as Android 17! After reading this thread, I'm guessing it shall be my other cosplay! =D

It's pretty simple and I already have most of the stuff put together (minus the wig and leg warmers).

ahhhh! YES!! They're gathering! Soon the battle between Ninjas (especially Naruto) and Pirates will be won by saiyans and androids! I'll need to start pulling together my super saiyan 4 goku cosplay. Because I have an idea for a skit for S-con and next year's K-con. Two ideas actually. One is the folowup skit to my dragon ball bucket battle idea, and the other is just an RPG styled stage battle between two fighters. Either Trunks and 18 or GT Trunks/Goku and 17, or even Super 17.

Well first you look at characters outfits and hairstyles and see what clothes look the same in the real world that are easy to find. Anyone here try to spray paint/dye a karate gi orange? I haven't but if I really wanted to be Goku, I so would! In my view the crazy colored/styled hair wig should be last since it might be harder to find.

Example: Android 18 in one outfit wears a blue denim vest and skirt, a black shirt with white sleeves and black stripes, and rust orange boots. Then there's a blond hair wig (for the cosplayer) and instant 18. Now I'm not going to go into Bulma. She's got more hair styles and outfits throughout Dragon Ball, DBZ and GT than Goku has teeth left at the end of the series. One thing doesn't change though, her hair is always blue.
