By reading or by actually learning to speak and understand the language? If the latter is true, that's quite a feat! Japanese is called "The Devil's Language" for good reason because there's four different ways to say stuff.
1) Regular, polite form
2) Casual form
3) Super polite "I am not worthy" form
4) "Omg, you're teh best thing evar, good sire" form.

AND verb forms... those are hard...

1) ます- form
2) Dictionary form
3) て-form
4) Plain form
and then doing things like past, negatives... on and on... (I have about 50 verbs and there forms totally natural and memorized... but outside of that i get confused
