Cosplay Swing Dance?
« on: October 11, 2007, 01:31:33 am »
I have some friends who regularly give swing dance lessons and host dances.  I bet if I asked and there was a room available for a few hours we could have a swing dance at k con 08
Yaoi crossplay... is actually Yuri.

We are planning on another Masquerade Ball at con this year, and swing dancing would easily fit in.  We are looking for more dance instructors for it - the more types of dance, the better :).  If you (or your friends) are interested, PM me or e-mail me at programming@kumoricon.org

But will it only be at the masquerade ball? I've never gone because of the requirements... And I don't want to miss out on swing dancing just because of that... xD

I'm curious, which requirements are the issue?  The requirements of the at con Masq are less stringent than those of the Winter Formal event this weekend - we don't require as much formality in attire.

The main concern I would have with having a separate swing dance is space... that is a large part of the problems we had with the masq at last years con.  We simply did not anticipate the interest in the event, and the room we had it in was not large enough, both for the lessons and the dance itself.  If we tried to have a swing dance in addition to the normal dance and the masquerade, we just don't have enough large space to accomodate it all.

I'd like to learn some swing. At this last weekend's Winter Masquerade Ball, some people taught me the very basics of swing and it was fun. It's sometimes nice to learn something else other than waltz.

And is anyone watching America's Ballroom Challenge? It's on OPB right now.

Like I said before, I know several couples that regularly teach swing dancing.  I could ask and see what it'd take to book them if we want to have swing dancing at the next cosplay dance.
