Er, well, I'd personally be hesitant to wear leather at a summer convention. The idea of being baked inside my pants just doesn't sound very appealing. And if the hot pants don't appeal to you, then I think Soubi's recommendation of khaki shorts (or perhaps just longer shorts of a different material/color/length) would be a choice to consider. ^_^
