its that magical time of year when you main your self
« on: August 24, 2006, 07:31:45 pm »
hi ya all!
we all know the pain of hurting ourselves, cuts and burns we suffer while making our cosplays, of slicing thru skin instead of fabric, mistaking your foot for a pincution and finding what happend to you spare scizzors the hard way
i make a post like this every year usaly while my hands shake from lack of blood (true this year too)
well lets check, last year i sniped my thumb while removing a knot from a wig (slight scar)
the year before i stabed the same thumb with a exato knife while making link swords(bigger scar)
and just now i was cutting the fabric for chiyo chans father and cut thru all of the fleashy pad of my left forfinger, good thing there was that bone to stop it and that my friends mom is a physical theipst, this has been the deepest cut yet and (i'm guessing bigest scar yet)
i'm getting good at one handed typeing
i'm going to have soup now

Lol, will this become the offical "I hurt myself" thread?
The only really bad thing that I have done has been to step on a needle.
Not really anything bad. Myabe poked myself once or twice. Or... burn myself on a glue gun.... >.>

Oh wow. o_o I've never hurt myself that bad.

I've stuck myself with pins and needles more times than I can count (Who hasn't?), sewn a piece of my hair to some fabric (That kinda hurt), got hot glue burns, found pins on my carpet the hard way, and while working with laquer thinner I've had it get into some cuts on my hands. (That didn't feel too good. >_<)

What I've done doesn't even compare to what you've done superjaz.

I salute everyone who has injured themselves in the name of cosplay! *salutes*

Nothing major...yet. But I am sure my number will come up eventually. Hopefully later than sooner. I've poked myself with pins and needles countless times. The worst one was when I was making my Bleach captain's coat (which is white) and I stabbed myself with a pin. It was one of those pokes that instantly starts dripping blood. Ugh.

Let's hope everyone's injuries will be very minor, few and far inbetween.

Aside from the usual pin pricks here and there, nothing too major has really happened to me to draw blood. THe scariest thing yet has been when I was sewing and my machine hit a pin in the fabric and shot a chunk of the needle at my face and it hit right near my left eye. That was definately scary.

*sucks on a forefinger* Funny you should mention. I just did some major damage to the pad of my forefinger with a needle while whip stiching a hook and eye clasp to my cosplay.... gah.... ow.... not to mention that my fingers ache from holding those little suckers in place... hmmm. But it's all in the name of cosplay!!!

I have a scar on my right forearm from bumping it up against an iron by accident.  I also was once sewing four layers of leather by hand with a cloth thimble, and the needle realized that it could more easily force its eye end through the cloth and into my thumb, than its pointed end through the leather.  So it did.

Most of my cosplay injuries are gotten in the wearing, though.  I've been stabbed by "keep-it-in-place" pins, had my feet worn to sores by shoes, and once blistered my chest by wearing my athletic tape binding for too long.  You'd really think I'd learn after four years of this, but...  >_>

i only had a few minor injuries.
there's the obvious hot-glue burn,
paired with the seam-ripper-accidentally-jammed-into-finger manuever.
and i probably banged my head against things many a time, due to the utter frustration. ):
