Gothic Lolita Nekomimi (Cat-girls)~ Anyone?
« on: July 16, 2006, 08:08:28 pm »
Alright, so, this year I've decided to finally dress up as a G-lol. I don't know if anyone remembers me from the 04 con, but I was Puchiko from Digi Charat, had a blue skirt, yellow paw/legwarmer/boots braided hair, and a long cat tail, and was with Sailor Mars and Saturn.

 Last year I was a bloody Alice, from American MgGees Alice~ Long black hair, and the classic Alice costume splashed with blood.

 This year I'll be a nekomimi in a g-lol outfit. I'll be with three other friends, don't know what they're going as though. I saw a couple of g-lol's last year (you all looked lovely), anyone else conbinin the two this year?

 Also, on a completely other note, I am SICK of those idiots with the cardboard boxes that say "Free Hugs" or "Give me Ramen" Seriously, that's just lame now.

 Last year there was a lovely girl dressed as Gaara of the Wind and she had a sign around her neck that said "I'M NOT DEAD DAMN IT!" That = Cool. Next to that, right at the entrance were about 5-10 idiots BLOCKING THE WAY IN, with signs saying hug me. How about this year someone has a sign that's entertaining for us all? Combine the "Give me Ramen" and "Give me Hugs" except make it PUNCH ME FOR RAMEN! I will bring a whole case of ramen if one of those idiots lets me punch their lights out.

 :3nod:

 Sorry, but seeing those EVERY YEAR at EVERY CON, it's just gotten lame now. :/

 Anyhow, Nekomimi's IM me at SunneyTehBunney

Yay <3 We can be all "mreow" and then the crowd can be all "awwh" and then we'd be all *gigglelol*....yeeah.

 Hmm...I should maybe be l4me and wear a sign that says "Touch my tail and scratch my ears; $5" XD

 Yeah, my bad-ass, funky fresh Otaku-Mama comes with me and ym friends to the con every year. W3rd.

 Well, I was thinking of all dark colored like...well o.O "gothic", but then I remembered how HOT it was last year, and how it felt to have my ass sweat under a nylon puff skirt, so I'll be wearing light colors.

Quote
These ones ~>
lightblue

peach

plum

white

 Mix of those colors. I'm hoping to find a cute pattern but not too huge then it'll look weird and we'll all get dizzy and go blind from the crazy ass pattern of my dress xD;;

 I can't decide what color neko I should be....

 Black, white, brown or tabby striped....

 Right now my hair is close to my natural brunette color but I have bleach blonde bangs. I might color my hair bright pink or red though :D anny suggestions?

 My mohawk (may it rest in peace) - I've also had my entire hair in that red, it looks CRAZY <3 especially in the sun xD I have this weird glow around my head...all...anime holy.

 Regular brown hair - XD;;

 Current hair - I know I looks very...happy..XD; In this pic.

 Ooooor other colors? My hair will probbaly be a lot longer by the con @.@

 more recent pics here http://www.myspace.com/sunneytehbunney

 r4wr Im done

 And saying that cat girls are not lolita is like saying black people can't be lolitas....just...because they're black, or white people. Saying that a cat-girl can't be a lolita doesn't make sense. o.0

Elegant Gothic Lolita is more or less the term Mana-sama coined. For the Gothic Lolita style, leaning more twords the high victorian/elizabethan/etc styles.
No idea about this shortened stuff of glol or whatever, i've always had it shortened as gothloli or (ゴスロリ)gosurori.
There are a billion offshorts of it like sweet lolita, ero(short skirts etc) lolita, et al.

Who or what is Mana-sama?  :?

That reminds me of one term I read once.  It showed an American trying to do EGL (just using the only term I know) and they called it something really weird.  I wish I could remember it but I do remember the style name had nothing to do with goth or lolita.

it's not called G-lol. seriously... if you call it that, people will just LOL at you.
gothic lolita, gosurori, or just lolita.
also, the outfit you described isn't lolita at all, but "skimpy catgirl maid".
... i'll never understand the otaku obsession with cat ears
catgirls are not lolita, they are cosplay
lolita =/= cosplay

here are a few informative guides to lolita fashion (and what isn't):

if you do want to wear an outfit that is actually lolita (no cat ears, please), i can recommend a few that would be very flattering:

For those that were involved in that livejournal flaming

 Thank you

 I dont know why, but I was truely hurt. I havent had my feelings hurt this bad since I was a little kid and they used to pick one me at school, maliciously for no reason.

 Thank you so very much. And now that someone went and called me hideous, and posted a photo of me there as well. I wont be going to the con.

 I just wont feel comfortable going somewhere where I know there will be people there, that know who I am and trated me with such malice for no reason

 **** typos, I really dont care right now

 Mods, please delete this thread.

..... wow

Do you all have to be so rude to new commers who don't know anything about anime, just because they didn't research what they were going to wear does not give ANYONE the right to critisize them for what they like and want to wear.

Those of you who did so harshly critisize this poor otaku should be ashamed, nobody told you what you should and shouldn't do at an anime con, what gives you the right to tell someone less educated about the style what they should and shouldn't be doing.

suggestions are nice, but telling someone they're wrong to wear CAT EARS with lolita is not ok. As a matter of fact, there is an anime that HAS a main character that wears a neko mimi and she does it well, in fact, almost too well, and nobody was there to tell the artist "You can't make a lolita wear cat ears" and even if they did, the creator is better off not listening to them. because look how good the anime did. Tsuyomi moon phase was a wonderfully cute anime, BECAUSE of the cute childish lolita character that made her trademark WITH the neko mimi.

I'm so done, now even I don't want to go this year, because if everyone is turning into elitist cosplayers, what's the fun?

I must agree. I mean, we should all stick together, have fun, and enjoy the con. Just because someone doesn't like how you cosplay doesn't mean you shouldn't do it (well, unless it's REALLY bad, but it's different in that sense) I say you should still come and have fun. Just do what you want cause a pirate is free,

I wonder, does it count as cosplaying or dressing up as a gothic lolita, if I dress like that normally?

Even wearing a wedding gown in public feels normal to me.

I wish I could actually dress up and feel like I was doing so. ;_;

But I will be going to Kumoricon in lolita type outfits. I'll probably bring a dozen or so outfits so I can constantly change them. : D

And um, I don't know what was going on in here before I wandered in but um, I hope I'm not doing anything wrong :?:

So please no one chew on my head or something. :C

On Livejournal there was... alot of drama and lulz.

There were talk of Cat ears and Breasts being exposed as well as an excuse with "Well you're saying catgirls can't be lolita that's like saying black people can't be lolita."

I think alot of this has to do with elitism, which, I do not deny being.

I dunno... but I read the livejournal things... and it specifially stated cosplay gothloli from "normal" gothloli and that cosplay was just fine. So with cosplay comes a whole slew of stuff...
http://home.comcast.net/~kouta/shihoudani-front.jpg
thats what i am going as, it has roots in the gothic lolita style but it also isn't so... :3

and elistism is when ya think you are better than a large amount of people.
this is your classic cosplay drama...
and catgirls are cute, so are catboys, and bunnyboys.... but i like them clothed and modest its so much cuter that way :D

When people sepnd hundreds of dollars on real gothic loita clothing from brand name stores in Japan, most of them are not happy when people decide to butcher it up with cat ears or sexual elements.
That is elitism in the Lolita Fashion.

I have no problem with people doing Cos-loli at a con, who do it right. It's when go from this...
http://www.bookmice.net/darkchilde/japan/japan/lolita/003.jpg

to this, Americanized, sexed up, costumes dresses.

http://www.gothshop.com/img/inventory/8/800083_sm.jpg
"Gothic Lolita Dead Dolly Dress".

Hot Topic has had a part in this too with their Gothic lolita lable.

I do not see lolita as cosplay really or as anime inspired. It's inspired by the Rococo period of France. Most of the "Gothic Lolita" you see in Anime is inspired by cos-loli and it geared to me more.... loli-con type of a person.
"Gothic Lolita" has been a growing tred in costume design, I've seen. But that dosn't mean it's real Gothic Lolita.

:/ Maybe I'm just rude/picky. But when you spend near 600 dollars on clothing you'd get that way too.

For lolita elitism, thats also generic cosplay elitism. People that sew thier own stuff and work on it and make what they think is the best... go out and bash on/are dissapointed with a 1st time con goer that wears a comissioned outfit. Though bashing on anyone is imo very stupid and childish, but I will get bashed for the rest of my life for who I am, but thats a different story... Though with poseur-lolita stuff is annoying since its... sad panda looking 99% of the time.

As for the hyper-sexed "lolita" stuff. I agree its retarded to see that on anything, wear some real clothes. (just like "gunner" something that didn't originally be "gunner" to begin with [FFX(-2)]... or sexy no jutsu some random naruto char that never used it) Also alot of stuff was "inspired" by the gothic lolita fashion trend, but is far from being gothic lolita itself. Like the dress I am sewing...

Hmm, I wonder, what would you call "pouser" lolita, exactly?

I myself don't claim to be "lolita," but ever since I was a small child, my parents would dress me in Victorian clothing, because they both had a thing for that era.

As a result, I don't have many normal clothes, even now in my life.

Most things I wear that I haven't bought recently consist of white or black lacey dresses and such, pea coats, military coats--most of it looks Victorian, and thusly sort of Gothic Lolita.

I haven't made any of this clothing. Altered some of it, yes. But not made anything from scratch.

I do have two actual gothic lolita type outfits that I did buy off of eBay, though.

What do you think people will think of me?

I can't hide who I am, and I can't help that I was always the kid in high school wearing cuffed pants, white lace shirt, and a cap.
[ Why the heck do you thinka boy has his hair this long?! XDDD  It's my parents fault I look so girly. ]

Eletism makes me sick. All I figure is, if you've got the style and you've got the body--flaunt it. No one can diss you for anything if you look good, and they know it.

If people at a con though I was dumb, I'd probably just laugh at them.

Because they don't know who I am.

;D

More or i'd call the poseur lolita stuff... things that are done halfassed... and pretended to be elaborate... or the skanky stuff that alot of people sell here nowdays.
If it looks good then they an be put into whatever catagory they are supposed to be in.
I have no idea, I don't like the stuff that calls attention to the person, but rather to the clothing and how well it is. I am more of a renaissance person myself for the clothing style I like... but the lolita style looks very nice as well.

It's just how I dress. ;____;

not at all. your not being stupid about it, and pretending for it to be super whatever, your just being you and how ya dress.
dun matter if you make it or not... its the style of it, if it works then it works, your not trying to hypersex a style of clothing just because ya feel like it... like what happened to alot of the "gothic lolita" clothes that are being sold now.

"Posuer lolita" would be things from Hot Topic or most of the cos-loli from Bodyline. People who can pull of Cos-loli are fine in my book. They either don't have the money or the passion to buy the 300 dollar + dresses so they go for something a little less expensive, but still in good taste. Bodyline has made some horrible, horrible dresses. They have also made some things that I would wear. First: Bad Bodyline. Second: Good Bodyline.

I think that you have a very cute style and you pull it off flawlessly, Irate. I would not call you a Purser/cosplay lolita.

Ooh, I actually like both of those dresses. xD
Although, the first is a bit too stylized for me. I would prefer a much longer gown with more lace or something. x3
But they are both pretty! n___n

And thanks. xD I would hope I pull off my style okay. x3

Oooh Meta and BtSSB?
I've wanted a dress by either one of those companies for the longest time...
The majority of them are so amazingly beautiful.

But no, I'm a poor college student that can only buy second hand stuff. ;_;

Boohoo. *Cries a river*

I'ts platic with a red polka dot cotton lining on the inside (sewn in) and Flower/Lace/Hear Detail on the from and back. It's pink and I'm more into white/black/light blue lolita.

Ohmygod. I have to enter a raffle and win GothicLolita stuff.
It's my only chance! *Sob*

Only the gods knows what legths I'd go to to appease someone into giving me real GothicLolita stuff. >_>;

I'm old enough to have a real job, but...I've never had one before. So no place will hire me. It seems like you need to have had a job to get a job, but you can't get a job to get a job....because you haven't had a job. o____O;
It makes no sense.

All the money I do get from my parents though...has to go towards food. And a beach trip I'm taking with my boyfriend the week after Kumoricon. And stuff for the apaprtment. Like, Towels. And shower curtians. And lamps &chairs. And his rent, which he shortly won't be able to pay for since he has no job right now, either.

Oh, gods. You know you're growing up when no longer can afford manga because you're paying for furniture and rent. D:>

....*is getting emo D:*. Thanx everyone for those lovely comments. Those livejournal elitist brought me down like I never though I could be, especially online! I was mentally slapping myself for reacting that way.

 Then they somehow managed to find me on the WHOOOOLE OTHER SIDE OF THE INTERNET on forum where there was a tiny cosplay corner. I was not even mentioning the lolita neko thing, just looking for possibly costume suggestions when two of them came and attacked me....*urgh*

 Your nice comments really warmed my heart, and now I regret not reading these earlier and getting started on my costume... It's the 25/6th and I'm a part of the MySpace photoshoot....urgh.

 I still want to go as a catgirl. My mom is AMAZING at making tails, so if worse comes to worse, I'll shove a tail up my ass, wear a corset thatll shove my breasts into my nose and cat ears the size of texas.

 Any objections?

 (>_>; Ok no, I'll just wear something casual, yet cute and be a neko XD.....though if anyone is interested in the breasts up to the nose idea, give a hollar. I'll make my guy friend dress as so)

Oh and XD;; I'm not new to anime, this is a new account and such...though this is only my 3rd (official) year as cosplay. My first cosplay was Sailor Jupiter (before i went crazy and started dying my hair weird ass colors...my hair was exactly like hers) and I cosplayed as her in Halloween of 03, and my friend was Saturn. Then in the 04 Kumoricon, my friend went as Saturn again, her older sister as Mars, and I went as Puchiko from DigiCharat

 I may make a simple school uniform again...hohum

"Posuer lolita" would be things from Hot Topic or most of the cos-loli from Bodyline. People who can pull of Cos-loli are fine in my book. They either don't have the money or the passion to buy the 300 dollar + dresses so they go for something a little less expensive, but still in good taste. Bodyline has made some horrible, horrible dresses. They have also made some things that I would wear. First: Bad Bodyline. Second: Good Bodyline.

I think that you have a very cute style and you pull it off flawlessly, Irate. I would not call you a Purser/cosplay lolita.

But anyway. I really hope no one would think I was a pouser or anything for dressing in Victorian clothes I didn't make. o_o;;

I don't make my lolita clothing either. It's Baby the stars shine bright and Metamorphose.

i LOVE BtSSB! i made another order (the Parfait skirt in blue and the Baby border print in red, and a few other small things). i doubt they'll be here in time for the con, but i'm so excited to get them.
i lovelovelove Moitie too~ my arch/gate (or whatever) print should be here in time, and hopefully my rockinghorse shoes too *hopehopehope*
lolita clothes ftw mang.

anyway, here's the tea party details:

the 2nd annual Gothic Lolita tea party will take place at Kumoricon
Sept 2nd from 12pm-2pm
room location to be announced

activities include:
- tea & food
- nail decor station
- photography
- door prize drawings
- "best outfit" prizes

REMINDER: please wear your lolita/j-rock/visual kei clothing. dress code will be enforced.

omg what's everyone's fascination with the rocking horse shoes? I swear all I'm hearing on LJ is "omg rocking horses shoes arten't made of wood but foam omg faom is okay but wtf she said they had wood."

@_@ Maybe I'm just scared of them because they look dangerous. I can't walk very well in my shoes anyhow. I'm so clumsy.

Yaaay. For Tea Party. I cannot wait. I'm gonna give that french place a call about the Fruit Tart. I think they only have Blueberry and Raspberry... It would be nice if they had strawberry. :]

What kind of shoes are you talking about?? @.@

*Has no idea.*

And um, I have a question! Not sure if anyone can answer it, though.

I e-mailed both BABY and Meta with questions on certian items yesterday, and I have no yet gotten a reponse.

How long do those companies generally take to reply to questions?
I asked them in English, was that okay? I don't know if they even know English...

Baby and Meta both have one person each (i think) on staff who speaks english. Meta might respond within 2-3 days, and Baby in maybe a week.

Ooh, those are such cool shoes!
I want. :D

And thanks so much for the info. I was beginning to think that maybe BABY and Meta were going to ignore me becasue I hadn't used Japanese.

I mean, I took Japanese for four years--all though high school. But, uh. It would have taken like three hours to write them an e-mail if I'd done it that way. And I was lazy. >_>;

I hope they reply soon!
I am looking into getting:

But no matter what I get, it has to be the exact right size, or I don't want it.

And I will only be able to get one of these items, likely.

But they're my most wanted BABY and Meta items, right now~~

I would go for the first BABY dress seeing as you could wear it in the summer and winter... Accept maybe the sleeves aren't detachable.

Ok, in light of that what I just almost posted was fairly incomprehensible and rambling, I'll start something more succinct. I would like it to be known that your opinion of what is and is not loligoth, or whatever you'd prefer it to be referred to as, is significant, but not always requested. If I had resources, I'd dress up in these things you find tacky and tasteless, and bring a sign 'I'm not loligoth'. Ok, so you don't think it fits, too bad, I like it. Are you going to shun me for that? That I find attractive something you all seem to have concluded is tastelessly Americanized? I'm left with the feeling that you're rather like the furries, and probably some number of other groups I simply haven't watched enough to recognize the trend. You have your ideal of what qualifies, and that's nice, but maybe someone needs to define a separate group for the people you don't want. It still amuses me that something out of the mainstream, especially for the area, is defining who can and can't come with. Nonetheless. I'm sure I'm horribly wrong, and am expecting someone to explain why.

If its cosplay lolita thats fine...
http://community.livejournal.com/egl/3586048.html
is a link that was posted earlier in this thread that said it was fine.
Basically people dont want to see some super revealing no-thought outfit being worn that may or maynot pervert the style that those people cherish.

thank you Kouta. the dress code is there for a reason; this event is not for random t-shirt ninja cosplayers or whatever~

and i don't think asking people to bathe and wash their clothes before they come is too harsh.

No worries folks, no part of my ass or anythign else will be popping out

 oO; I WAS kidding

 Anyhow~ Since a lot of people said "omg so leik wai dont u go as a maid cauz i cant do lolliya" Fine :D

 While fabric shopping for a cute maid outfit, I remembered the anime Hanaukyo Maids, and at the end credits there are three girls cosplaying as the triplet maids from the anime...so my outfit will be similar to theirs.

 And yes, for the sake of cliche, I will be a maid CAT~ I wanna co as a [blank]/catgirl for one year, and this is it.

 This will be my last year cosplaying for some time :( I'm moving to Canada sometime next year, and in the area I'm moving to there aren't any anime conventions T__T Then only thing is some creepy sci-fi con, which is cool but I.....I saw...*shudders*...pictures....30-40+ y/o 500+lb virgins who live in their parents basements dressed in tight StarTrek outfits...and...oh god the horror....THE HORROR!!!!!

U__u.....so...yea. Someday when I've lost some weight and it's legal for me to wear skimpy clothes without the standbyers going to jail for pedophelia, I'd like to go as Felicia :D

xRIxKUx !! I'm adding you to MySpace, that OK?

  I like toootally like, lololol like you,m lol so we leik shood be friends *end moronic typing*
