How far would you go?
« on: March 19, 2006, 05:33:08 pm »
So how far do you guys all travel to come to Kumoricon?
And how far are you willing to travel for a convention?

I'm only about an hour away in Salem, Oregon.

Cons for me right now have to be in state and close by... I would still probably go if it was in Astoria... but anywhere near the California border I probably wouldnt. Since I'm only 16 with a permit, It would depend on my 21 year old sister and her friends who are the ones that drive me and her places.

I only need to travel about 2 hours by car or 3 hours by train and MAX.

I'm not sure how far I would travel for a convention.  I did consider the idea of going to SakuraCon years ago but I had some difficulty trying to figure out how to get there without a car.
Anyway, I think Seattle would be my limit.  Maybe California.

2 hours on the max for last year.

I really have no say in it; it depends on how far my parents are willing to let me go and if my sister and her friends mind me tagging along  :?

it was funny... I got on the max to go from forest grove to portland and when I got on, I already noticed some cosplayers... more and more kept getting on, it was awesome!!! I think I would consider going from califorina... if I lived there, could drive, and had the gas money aheheheh

I traveled... Let's see... 15 minutes to get to the convention last year? Yeah. This year it might be a solid 30 to 45 minutes considering it's in Jantzen Beach this year... Which I'm not a fan of... Not that Jantzen Beach is bad, just for another reason.

I THINK I know the hotel it's going to be at this year, I might be wrong, but I keep thinking it use to be a Double Tree Hotel and was converted into a Red Lion, but I might be wrong. If it is the same hotel I am thinking of, then it's really REALLY nice...

Right now, I'd probably be willing to travel as far north as Seattle and as far south as San Diego.

You are right, the convention hotel used to be a Double Tree and then was converted into a Red Lion...

Lets hope we don't have any more mishap at the elevators... seeing as the hotel is 3 floors. xD God I miss those elevator rides...

I had to walk 15 minutes last year. *lives next to Lloyd Center 8)*

I'm willing to travel within the States if I hear the con's a good one or a lot of online folks I know are going. Went to AWA in Georgia last year, was totally worth it.

It only takes me about 20 minutes to get to the convention from home, but I have a friend who's flying out all the way from Ohio for KumoriCon.

Well, offhand I'd say not very far, but that's taking into account that I've never been to a con of any kind. (If I can, I'm going to check out Kumoricon this year, and that has the potential to change my opinion dramaticaly...).

For Kumoricon, it takes me around three to three and a half hours. Depending on traffic and which route I choose.

If its a nice day, ill drive up the coastline, through Newport and Lincoln City. If its not, Ill take 126 to Eugene, and go up that way.

It took me about eight hours to go to Sakuracon. Including rest breaks and a lunch break. The weather was terrible, and I went alone, too. Didn't have anyone to carpool with back then, lol. Plus, my friend who was supposed to go cancelled at the last minute, becauses his work called him in, even though he had the time off.

I live in Southern Oregon, so, yeah. However, I have done the ride to Portland so many times, it just flies right by, now.

As for how far I would go for a con. I would have no limits. If I wanted to go, I would go. Heck, I almost made it to A-kon two years ago, and almost to AX last year. Wish I hadn't missed AX last year. Hara Tetsuo was there, and I really wanted to meet him, even though he wasn't there as a guest, and he hosted a panel of sorts. Not sure, but a friend of mine that lives in Oceanside went, and another friend that lives in San Diego.

Ha ha! This'll be the FOURTH convention I went to in that hotel then ^_^ Sweet! If they haven't changed the inside too much, it'll be awesome. It's a VERY nice hotel, I liked it more than the Marriot and the DT at LC. *Sniffles* Good GameStorm memories there and soon, great K-Con memories as well. *Cries*

I currently got to both Kumori-Con and Sakura-Con.

I really have no limit on miles for a convention. I'm planning on going to Anime Evolution, Fanime, Anime Expo, and Otakon in the next two years. ^_^ It's lots of work to save up all the damn money, but oh so worth it. Hell, I might even decide to check out a few other East Coast cons...

Vancouver Washington is the place to be I tell you >D

Anyway I am not going very far, maybe like 10-20 miles at the most.

I am however opening my door to a friend canadian catgirl from the boards, so I will pick her up from the bus station and let her stay at my place a few nights out of the kindness of my heart =D

Just within the state right now. I wanted to go to Sakuracon this year, but I couldn't find a way to get there.

I live in Newberg. Only a half-hour drive to the con. Depending on traffic.

Hm. Live in Portland, so Kumoricon's no issue for me. This year its about a 15-20 minute drive if traffic is good.

...and really, I don't think I'd go much farther than Southern California. And that'd be pushing it... kinda.

I'll  be driving up from Bakersfield, CA. Nearly 1000 miles. And 18 hour drive O.O I did it once already though, so it'll be easier this time around....I hope-.-

I'm willing to do this 1. because I had already registered before I moved down here from Rainier. and 2. because K-con is awesome and I will always do whatever is in my power to make it each and every year no matter where I am. ^.^

No idea... I drive from olympia to seattle a fair amount a year... so now that sakuracon is there its np for me. Also down in portland there is alot of stuff that goes on there and drive there about 3-4 times a year... and its not really that far. I'd probably drive as far as about 3-4 hours in one directon. Also, if people I know are going to a different one i would try to go there... was trying really hard to go to otakon this year but didn't make it... since i hear yoshiki was going to be there among other people. :3

The farthest convention I've attended is Big Apple Anime Fest in Times Square, NYC.  I didn't attend any events.  It was more of a big dealer room shopping spree!  I miss that convention.  :(

I haven't attempted any other driving conventions farther than Kumoricon.  Maybe in the future.

*laughs madly with glee* I live about fifteen minuites from Kumoricon! which is bloody lucky if I say so myself, if it was any farther I probably would not be able to go. Sucks to be underage with no one willing to drive you to an anime convention. I'd just have to make Pen. Shade (teh brother) get his drivers license so he could drive us there. 'Tis good that it hasn't come to that.

Even so I'm not going this year. I went to Europe for ten days, and even though I was saving up my own money to go (a measly allowance of three bucks a week) I still have to bask in the glory of my Europe trip and am not allowed to go. >.>

Should I just call you 'Writ.' then...?

Aye, that'd be all fine and dandy--if we managed to crawl out of the twisted burning wreckage brought about by my driving skills, and managed to stumble to a hospital...plus, we'd miss out on Kumoricon 'cause I have no sense of direction and had driven us to Canada...

lmao, well, they have conventions in Canada too xD...not K-con though. TT_TT

I live in Salem so I only have an hour car ride infront of me. ^^ But how far I would go, that is the question^_^ Well... Otakon, I think I might come close to killing to go to...(if I got put in jail, there would be no con at all TT_TT) but...just really depends on the convention. Normally, maybe a state away or so..... unless I have plenty of time and money to get me somewhere.... then I really would care about the distance^^

@ vondan - I deleted those duplicates for you.

I have driven 13 hours for a con. Fanime in San Jose.

I think I'll be about a half hour from the con when I move next week.

I think the winner is badge number one. She's coming from Missouri.

@Tinkeu: True--unfortunately, we wouldn't be registered for said cons before we came crashing though their wall...

@Writer: Aye. And Pen equals Penumbra not...

It's a moot point really--I don't have a car, a license, or money for gas either, so I'll just stick with my current plan...

about 3 1/2 hours here from roseburg :sigh: 2 more years of schooling and then its hello vancouver

Vancouver, BC or washington?

Vancouver Washington is the place to be I tell you >D

Anyway I am not going very far, maybe like 10-20 miles at the most.

I am however opening my door to a friend canadian catgirl from the boards, so I will pick her up from the bus station and let her stay at my place a few nights out of the kindness of my heart =D

On a completely unrelated note, I want a cookie..

I will purchase a box of whatever favorite cookie you want for your extreme kindness ^____^ I must thank you again! Thank you!

I live in Gold River, B.C. Canada and it'll be about 10 hours to get there. 5 to get to Vancouver, B.C, and about another 5 to take the train down.

And then stay up late helping Leashy-Chan with her costume, watch movies, and make stuff with her! *cheers*

It's awesome to hear of so many people going, I hope to see all of you there!

Im not coming from very far for kumori con. :3 Just a 45 minute drive or so. The farthest ive ever gone for a con was sakura con 2006, which took ALL DAY in that fricken car. because of the horrible traffic. @_@ we crammed 10 people into a motorhome made for maybe 5 people at the most just to enjoy sakura con. :3 it was worth it!<3 oh, and sakura con was in washington. under normal circumstances, id guess it was a 6-7 hour car ride. thats not so bad. :3 not when your with your closest friends.

Ha! Writer is short for something already! it is short for 'writeronotes'. eat that.

Shade shade shade.... You are missing the point! Since the Kcon is not too far away and we are not driving, the entire discussion was in a world of fantasy. No point is moot! so penguin shall be kept from the light of day!

So? What's to keep me from re-shortening your pre-shortened SN, eh?

Thou speaks falsity! As it diverges from our current conniving plots in this plane of reality--all points are moot! Since none of it matters, (the penguin included, I'm afraid) anything and everything said in this conversation,  will slowly but surely begin to collapse under it's own poimtlessness--until it forms a moot singularity!

Re=shortening my pre-shortened name?! Redundancy!

(The poor penguin...) Ooh, and then everything will be sucked ruthlessly into the moot singularity thus rendering every point ever made, that was made, and shall ever be made completely moot! The mere act of walking will be scorned for the mere pointlessness of it all! And thus, humanity will whither away in indifference.

Most phantasmicaly so!

Not true! Though all points ever made and ever to be made are indeed moot, on a cosmic scale of things, humanity not be indifferent! Lots of people--indeed, almost everyone cares about many pointless points out there...total indifference is hard to find!

Unfortuanately for you, the whole me-driving-you-to-Kumoricon/Canada bit is moot even relative to us...

No one can see anywhay...

when was I out to prove that the point was not moot? besides, this is the magical internet. where pigs ply, and penguins spin like ballarinas! This is the land of moot! sure, some topics are not, but those can be discused elswhere. the internet could disapear and nothing would really be different, other than the lack of websites for every possible product. That, my friend, is because we have survived without internet before!

Not unless they can, (gasp) copy and paste!

Dependency grows with more usage--we've survived without a lot of things, as a race, but all but us went back to as in the time of cavemen, we would not fare so well as the first time through...

Why would the care enought o go through all that trouble?

You don't belive that we could adapt with our enviorment over time? Humanity is the bsolute ruler of adaptation. The weak, winey ones would die out within the first winter, leaving prime breeding bodies. It's all in the pedagree! We'd grow, and achive wold domination by sheer numbers.

Normally, people wouldn't--but then, It's not the normal people that I'm worried about...

Maybe--or maybe a new supreme race would emerge to grasp the reigns of Earth, leaving the helpless humans to be slaves in the new world order!
