Star Trek cosplay help
« on: July 05, 2013, 01:42:19 pm »
I'm planning to cosplay Fem! Bones from Star Trek. Don't laugh.

Anyway, I have the wig picked out, but the dress part is giving me a hard time. (The 2009/Into Darkness version)
Every variation is just so expensive, and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas ^^

Thanks!

I understand your trouble, as I'm working on a set of the 2009 shirts for Sakura con.

I don't know your sewing ability, but if you are a moderate level sewer you probably can alter a dress pattern.

Here's the tutorial I'm using as a guideline for my Men's shirts. http://magpies-trek.livejournal.com/

Thank you for your reply ^^

Unfortunately, I can't sew and my mother is psychically ill so she can't either.
And I know how others look down upon "store bought" cosplays. To quote an article-"Yuck!"

Personally, I say that there's nothing wrong with store bought cosplays.  Anyone who makes an issue of it can shut it.  It's a fine option to go with, especially if you're still going to modify it.  By the way, which version of Dr. McCoy are you going with?  Original, or modern?

...maybe it's because I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but was his hair red...?

There's nothing wrong with buying your cosplays. If you find a dress at goodwill or other thrift store with a similar style, you could probably dye it with rit dye and hemming it and sleeves is a fairly easy beginner sewer's task.

We are planning on doing a Star Trek group on Saturday! And we are lacking a Bones. Our cosplays are all the store bought shirts but we have a Spock, Kirk, Chekov, random dead red shirt, and a Data from Next Gen. We could totally use a Bones!  :)

I'm going as Cpt. Kirk! C: And I bought my 2009 shirt on ebay for only 29$ with no shipping. Hopefully it'll be pretty good quality. XD So is there a Star Trek meet anywhere?

So me and my 2 Spock's are planning a photoshoot on Saturday around 2 or 2:30. Here is what my friend posted on facebook.

"Alright! So me and my new fellow trek friend were talking about a photoshoot for Star Trek, seeing as though there wasn't one effectively planned. A time frame we were considering, was the bracket between 2-2:30 PM near the garage on Saturday. We're looking for feedback and hopefully anybody who is interested. Anybody cosplaying from Star Trek have other recommendations? Or anybody, for that matter."

2:30 would work for me. I have another cosplay planned for that day that I'll be doing beforehand, so I'll need some time to change into Spock before I can go.

Ahhh we aren't sure of the location yet D: we were thinking the garage where registration is but the vendors hall will be there this year. Where do you think is a good idea?

Maybe near the fountain in the park would be good. Buuut it gets kinda crowded there, so it might be hard to find each other. Or we could meet up by the benches off to the left of the fountain. They're usually shaded and not many people seem to go over there.
