So I found a tank top that I cut in half for the black vest thing Touko wears. I just need to hem it and then find some boots and I'm done with her!

Kokonoe has been ignored lately, but I'll be going to my mom's later today after I finish cleaning my apartment and working on her until I can at least be satisfied with the progress I've made.
This is my life. These are my choices.

Got my long blue wig in the mail! :D Braided it and everything already. Also got the dark red wig I ordered, but I need to run to class so no time to braid it right now.

Also sent some stuff off in the mail today and have my room.. HAD my room organized but with a wig now in here I need to do that again so I can get my sewing machine out x.x;

Still waiting for the rest of my Miku wig. I dunno if I posted about it yet or not, but I ordered it about a month ago (coming from China so it's not a surprise that it's taking this long). Over spring break (about two weeks ago) the seller actually contacted ME to ask if it had arrived yet. They wanted to make sure that if it did not arrive within 35 days that I contact them to see if they could get me another one (if it was lost) or work something out. I'm really happy with them so far, but not so happy that it hasn't arrived yet. XP

Also, I lost the two pairs of shoes I was bidding on. OTL Because I was in class when both were swiped at the last second. Luckily I've found some that are just as good that are "buy now" listings, but they're a bit more expensive. Meh.

Yesterday I got some last touches that I knew I'd need for Miku's outfit: Black for her arm thing, black covered boning to make the cage skirt stay circular. Also got some cute lavender fabric, but that's for something else. lol.

I got a ton of coupons for Joann's like, last week, so I have a bunch of 50% off one item and other types of coupons that I'm going to use for the snaps, snap attaching tool, possibly net/tulle to make a built in petticoat, and the light blue fuzzy fabric that I'm going to use for Miku's legs (it's some of the super soft baby fabric, and it's like, the most perfect light blue ever, it's just $12.99 a yard!!!).

Now I'm just hoping to find some time to start tracing pattern pieces, drafting pattern pieces, and actually sewing some crap. :P

HEY BROS THAT GOT WIGS FROM ME, GUESS WHAT I HAVE PICTURES OF?

Why yes, those would happen to be wig colors.

FLEUR:
YOUR PINK ONE!
YOUR BLUE ONE!

NIKKIOLIE:
The green is actually a little darker than this but OH MY GOD THIS WIG IS LONG

SOUNDY:
DAT BLUE, GRRRRRL

BOOGIE:
THIS IS A REALLY LONG WIG. GURL YOU GONNA BE RAPUNZEL OR SOMETHING?
Dat blond shade

AINE:
IT'S LIKE RED AND BROWN AT THE SAME TIME! DOUBLE COLORS, ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SKY :OOOOO
The other one is so white it could get shot in South-Central LA, so there's really not point in taking a picture of it.

Also, to top it all off, my wig for Taras Doberg. I really need to get rid of the ahoge.

YEUH

I made the crown and baked it! I made a base out of cardboard strips that I taped together and completely covered with clay, and then the part that sticks up was clay wrapped around a base made of toothpicks.

Tomorrow I'm going to sand and paint it! I can't wait!

Thanks for the pictures Richie :> The long one was for Nino in case my Cyperous one didn't come on time, but it did! So I am pleased.

Guhhh, school started so I've been super busy and a bunch of stuff has been going wrong. I think I'm finally on track again though. Tomorrow I will be able to mostly finish my new Nino track jacket as I only have to put on the pockets, add the nametag, add the ribbing to the bottom and finish attaching the rest of the zipper. THEN THAT'S ONE COSTUME DONE. This is the list for the rest of my stuff.

Lucas Lee- Print Tattoos
Kumatora- Dye and Style wig, dye fabric again and sew together sweater dress
Ramona- Tint wig with more green, style, finish hammer, make purse (Boyfriend helping with the hammer)
Duster- Paint line on shirt and make staples (Boyfriend is doing both)
Recruit- Style wig and paint tie
Scott- Fix Sword (Boyfriend is doing that)
Nikka commission- Make belt and sew fur to the bottom of the sweater

ITS KIND OF A LOT BUT I THINK I CAN DO IT.

LtCommanderRichie that is fine. I'm sure I can make it work. I need to put it in a long pony tail anyway :P

As for my cosplay progress I need to remade the hand guard for 5 of my swords. I am working on them now. I made the base out of plastic and I am going to make the raised edges out of craft foam but this is taking for ever. I need to cut out ten big spiked rings and ten small spiked rings then seal them, then paint them, the attach them to the plastic, trim any edges that stick out then touch up paint and finish them x.x

Just sent final payment for Hit-Girl and received some awesome new progress photos! I should have it next week, but boy this is cutting it way too close for my comfort. I'd like to have some time to do a few trial runs with it before I plunge into a full day of wearing it.

In the meantime, OMG-CON-STRESS until I have the glorious blob of purple sitting safely in my room. >':

Same. We have sound restrictions here. I've been sewing pretty much non-stop all day from like 8am till now. I did all of the petticoat for the skirt, and got my roommate to help with the petal form of the skirt. Then I pinned and sewed that on x.x And part way through pinning I realized I was short like 16" of the dyed fabric!!!

...Nearly had a heart attack right there. Until I noticed my brain is awsome cause I had made the dyed pieces like 5" wide... So cut that in half and made it longer. And then while sewing I noticed 2 black stains on the white >> and that I was short eslewhere again- only 3" this time... I swear!!!! @.@

Got my Miku wig today (or the rest of it). I got the falls earlier from a different website, and the main wig and the falls are like, a half shade different. >_< I was afraid of that. Any suggestions on dying the falls? Should I use a grey or a teal/blue? Pics:

I can see the difference, but maybe it's more dramatically different in person? Off the top of my head I'd say try a gray green mixture or some sort and make it VERY light in concentration so you can ease into the dark shades..

Bunny - If you have any extra of the fibers used for the falls then try and do a small dye patch to make sure it works.

So, the people who made my Lina costume have already responded, (which probably only happened because of my contacting eBay &/or my leaving a negative response).  They sent me a message that, I've got to be honest, was rather confusing.  Here's what they said:

"hi
sorry to hear about that ,would like to redo the costume and just keep it
some times they might shipped other one's costume to someone else
so would u please help us to take some pics of the costume ?
put the costume flattly on the bed or floor
put a tape at the unfit part, for example, chest ,waist
then take a clear pic so we can tell the measurement from the tape scale
last,plz send pics to XXXXXXXXXXXXX@XXXXX.com

thanks"

Here's how I responded:

"Hello there.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your message correctly or not, so please clarify to me what you mean. It sounds as if you're wanting me to keep this and take some pictures in which I use a measuring tape to show what places need to be at what measurements. Is this correct? Also, please make sure that the outfit is red. Not pink, RED. As for the comment that I made, I'll possibly adjust it AFTER I get the replacement costume.

Thank you for the timely reply."

@veraca: inside under fake light it's immediately noticeable, and in the shade outside it's also really noticeable. >_< I'm just worried that the dye won't take and I'll end up having to try dying it 50 bazillion times. lol

@Gryff: Yeah I was going to do that so I could figure out how much time to leave it in, what temperature I want the water, and all that good stuff.

@danayoki: That's a pretty good idea, but I don't want to change the color too much because I really like the color the wig already is. I'm just worried I'll mess it up. XP

If you use alcohol and sharpie ink. You can always wash it in just alcohol to get the color out again.

I don't really want to do sharpie because I don't want the wig to smell and it doesn't seem as permanent.

Just got done dying my Ramona Flowers wig. Getting that color is FREAKING HARD AS CRAP. But it's close enough now. A blue green that looks accurate against my sweater so that's good enough for me. I just have to curl the back of that now. Tried to dye my Kumatora wig and it looks like Rit Dye is only really good for duller colors, or at least with red-violet colors. Gotta get my ass to Hawthorne and get some Processed Magenta FW Ink!

Ok! Finished my Game Ramona wig. I couldn't find a camera so enjoy these extremely flattering and detailed webcam pictures of me (lieslieslieslies). I don't have a before picture atm but it used to be a light blue bob wig. I dyed it, had my friend cut it, and I styled the back.

Also just noticed my goggles are on sideways DERP

Wait what?! If you use 70% alcohol and sharpies, and you don't like it, you can rinse it out with just plain 70% alcohol? oO; Wow... Really?

Two questions.
1: How do you get RIT (and dylon) dyes to set in fabric and not bleed if I need to wash the fabric later. Dyed pieces are firmly sewn onto the *white* satin, when I noticed stains on the white, and had to use SHOUT to get them out. Stains came out, but now I'm wondering if there's a way to set the dye? (some shout got on some of the dyed area in small amount and now there's an odd puddle mark left- think salt on watercolor paint)

2: How do you turn small certain areas *say the end of wig fibers* from royal red to a orangey yellow? I'm compelled to use acrylic paint and water mixture, but these are spike ends kind of... and I'm wondering how long lasting it is, and if there was a better method perhaps? The fibers kanekalon.

And thought I'd ask first, unlike with the dye thing >> didn't think ahead!

@Vereca- You use 91% alcohol. But yeah you just dunk it in and you can see immediate removal of color. You can also use 71% to tone down a color if it's too dark.

I don't know the answer to your first question but, you can't take a dark wig color and dye it to make it lighter (since orange is lighter then red). You could probably paint the ends with paint like you said but just make sure to hairspray the hell out of it before you do.
This tutorial might give some guidance http://kotodama.deviantart.com/art/Cosplay-Tutorial-Wig-Painting-150977642

Awsome tutorial! Do I have to use hairspray or could glue spray work oO; I'm planning to style the wig FIRST and then do all the painting to it afterwards. I wouldn't think it'd be good to paint and then cut >> But I make my spikes like pyramids so I was wondering if I should like... water down the paint and apply via a spray bottle?

@Vereca- You can probably directly paint it on as is, maybe water it down a bit where the orange meets the red to get a gradiated sort of effect, but painting it directly on should work best if you just need it on the tips. And doing the painting after styling would be the best like you said~
WHY DO THE FORUMS SUCK SO BAD?

Woo!!! Cosplay progress finally.

I styled my Touko wig and it looks super cute. The pony tail causes the wig to bunch up in the back, but my wig cap doesn't look like it's showing from the back. If it does I'll just wear my black one so it's less noticeable.
This is my life. These are my choices.

have you tried using pins? :P that ALWAYS helps. cuz i did the exact same thing with my touko wig (but i got a ponytail instead this time and some side extensions) and i would just pin in the bottoms so my wig wouldn't be pulled up, and show my wig cap underneath :)

It's not noticeable though so I don't have to worry about it. I just have to give it a little elbow grease to have it sit the way it's supposed to.

Here's the pics I took.

3/4 Back:

The inside of the wig isn't showing, and it pulls down over my wig cap just fine.

def NOT noticeable, but at the con, TRUST ME! walking around and running (if you are late like me XD) it will start to come up a bit, it helps it not move around too :) and i always pin my wigs to my head anyways :) so it gives it a more "close to my head" look and makes none cosplayers go "o.O is that her hair? wait... yes? noo??" lol XD

Nice quads, bro.

I managed to forget my phone at my mum's, so no pictures, but I'm a good ways finished with Taras' WH badge with the Doberg crest on it. Gotta put some wood filler on it to even out the edges (have to wait for the apoxie sculpt to cure though ffs) and then I can paint it. Yaaaaaaay paint~

what kinda paint are you using
primer- is good for craks and stuff
varnish- is good after painting it seals it all in and it will help with the stickyness

I asked a friend for you to see she said use those. It might work . o.o
