Is Koneko aware of this? The last I've heard, she hasn't made any mention about the cafe, and she hasn't posted since I first recommended this date.

I will be hosting a Maid Cafe Discussion Panel, hopefully draw out people who are interested in doing it. :p

should just like rent a place out for a day, do it like they do in the school festivals in animes that have a maid cafe during the cultural festival.

The kickstarter idea is a good one too.

I dunno, the food industry is really low margin but yeah, it would be nice if someone really wanted to take ownership of this.

So, I've been thinking about this idea since I saw it about a month back, and I would like to head up another attempt at the idea. I don't want anyone to get their hopes up, but it'll have a lot of things to work out before even a small scale monthy or weekly could be started.
I already attempted to get in contact with the original poster of the thread, but I couldn't get in contact, f anyone knows her, I would like to bring her in to help.

I'll be making a new thread on the subject soon, if anyone would like to get in contact with me my skype name is "pumpkin-hill" and I'll be at Anime Expo till late Monday night so I'll be on Skype most the time after that.
Anyways, end of post, I'll have a lot more info in the thread, along with who I am since no one really knows me here yet.

Lots of things to consider, I really like the idea of themes, of course personas, but there's still limitations due to money, and of course running a business.
I really love the ideas in this thread and those given to me by my friends, I want to move forward in my planning soon, but I'm holding off on a new (shiny) thread until I have enough planned that I won't disappoint people. But anyways, Washougal Otaku, iirc you have experience with restaurants and management yes? If there's an easier way to talk with you without the forum, I think you could give some valuable input.

So if anyone has any questions in the mean time, I can try to answer them. Until I have a whole plan, it'd be too much of a bother to try to compile the details, but I can try to answer any specific questions (including regarding volunteering.)

This sounds quite interesting, I must admit. Are you trying to turn this into an official business, or just something "for fun" and not to make money?

If it's the first, if you're ever in need of a large group of themed costumes for support, I might be able to talk the Kashyyyk Base and Cloud City Garrison into making a troop at the cafe once it gets going. These are two groups of Star Wars costuming organizations (Oregon branches), one dresses as the "good guys", the others the "bad guys". Both are non-profit charity, but do usually ask for donations to Doernbecher's and other such organizations.
No, they're not anime costumes, but I thought I'd mention it. We do dress in screen-accurate Star Wars costumes, and sometimes it can be pretty neat to see a group of Jedi, or stormtroopers and Darth Vader, or even various pilots.

This seems like a super cool idea and i think you could make it work not turning a profit but fan service galore!

i don't know if you have done so yet but getting a facebook page started and if there is anyone good with web development (i know your out there people) start a web page for it and get donations to get started if we can spread the word enough might be able to get someone to donate a space, not many wealthy otaku's out there but i imagine there are a few... xD

just some idea's to get this project from dream to reality, i work nights so have good portion of the days free to work on stuff but no real skills just a fan... i like to cook though would be fun

The Star Trek and Star wars cosplay. It wouldn't really be treating directly to the main customers of a cosplay cafe, but I am in no way saying it could never happen, maybe an event night or something if there's enough demand.
Yes it would be a business, as the original thread had said.
And to finalmonk, I think running on non profit could be extremely difficult, especially if they're paying/donating for it to start up, and it could fail. I've been told to seek sponsorship from places such as FUNimation or other otaku-related companies that could take an interest in the advertisement.

Here's the biggest reason I've delayed this post, Kaulitz, the original poster of this thread, I had finally managed to get in contact with her(?) and as it turns out, she will still want to do it eventually, but after getting things in life in order (I suppose this wording sounds serious, but it's nothing serious.)
So I have to keep in mind I don't want to invade on her dream/idea. I haven't been in contact with her since, if I was I would be asking if she minds if I try to do it or not.
If she either gets back to me, or the fans show a really big interest in this, I don't know if I can push forward, but for now I'll keep planning.

Do you actually HAVE a BUSINESS PLAN? I, personally think that you could actually make a bit of money in Portland, but this page is a few years old and I haven't seen much more than fun ideas. write up a business plan, get a loan, find a reasonably priced building, and just do it. That's my advice.

I completely agree with you, on the fact that running it completely non profit would end up being extremely difficult. I was more just trying to get a brainstorm going of how we could spread the word branch out from the forums... but getting sponsored sounds like a much more likely possibility.

also agree with lilyrosa, once Koneko has her life in order getting a structured business plan laid out and that people can get behind and set up some more meeting to actually figure out the logistics of this thing
