LIVE BLOGGING from the 2010 AMV Judges Panel!!!
« on: July 23, 2010, 08:02:39 pm »
OK - I am starting this one the evening before just to check in with you all.

Just finished editing the 'We're CLOSED' texts on the contest page:
www.opusnet.com/guy1656/k2010-amv.htm

Right now I am going through the last of the download submissions and writing CONFIRM e-mails far and wide.

Got 4 packages in the mail today; I will start logging and entering those next.
Then I'll have some final stats posted her about total number of entries, states & countries whence they came, what shows used, and some other notable remarks.

HERE WE GO AGAIN !!!

Just finished sending out the last of the CONFIRM e-mails.

Each entry gets an index card with the AMV title, music used, desired category(-ies) and duration.
I also add any other nots the creators have sent me, and I sometimes add my own notes such as "DiVX logo visible at time x:xx,"
or "Filesize 733MB." The judges use the cards to slide around on a table and arranged them in the categories.
They sometimes make their own notes on the cards.

Anyways, I just finished the batch of "No Category Selected." There were 9 of those, totaling 31min 51sec.
I will write cards for all the entries in the categories tomorrow, and I should be able to get them all done before the judging begins.

OK - time for me to hit the bricks - see you all TOMORROW !!!

Got 4 categories of cards done: (None,) Intensity, Genki, and Jidaigeki +
I'm about to finish Retro, but that goes slow, because I have to track down dates of
animes and music sources...

And They're off !!
« Reply #3 on: July 24, 2010, 02:14:19 pm »
Got a delayed start. Went to my rented mailbox for any LAST stragglers that SHOULD have been put up on time.
There were none.

Another delay - I took delivery of a new toy: www.loudengineering.com
Dang these are FUN. The company owner visited to deliver it personally, and demonstrate safe (yet adrenaline-pumping use.)
He is retired USN and fired the 16-inchers aboard BB62 New Jersey.

Pics later, when I get them out of another guest's camera.

I am writing up the cards for the last two categories; the judges have decided to tear into the "no category" setand see which categories those might fit into.

UPDATE: Two got bounced! (Judges comment: "Can we play this at 2x and put it in Random Amusement"

DivX Logo, and subtitles sunk two more.

Thinning the herd...
« Reply #6 on: July 24, 2010, 07:05:20 pm »
The judges have trimmed the field to a total 1hr 47min.
There are 8 in 'Intensity' but each category has a max limit of 6 entries each.

They are now looking to skewer about 3 more from the total field, and redistribute the excess from 'Intensity' into other categories where they may fit.

Update: That's done!

They will now be sequence the AMVs in their categories, and determine the final order of the categories themselves.

Selecting "Judges' Choice!"
« Reply #7 on: July 24, 2010, 07:19:34 pm »
They are debating among three possibilities.

One of contender just NAILS its category,
the other was just flat-out hilarious,

But, since they think those two will each win in their own categories, they chose one they called "That's SO NOT what this anime is about!"  (Heck that might even be a CATEGORY next year!)

The Judge's choice HAS BEEN CHOSEN. It was chosen because they felt the creator totally built up an original story that was completely UN-related to the anime story.

Here is what we used to kick off this year's event.

I will use this device if I revisit the 'Chibi Things II' project...
