Let me just throw this out there, if any of you have fanfics, manga, or webcomics you want to submit for the Kumoricon contest, that you want to turn in in printed hard copy, I could meet up with you somewhere in Eugene before con to pick them up. :)

May I just throw this out there: a Eugene cosplayers get-together at con?

Just, yanno, sayin'.

While I am in favor of fraternizing at the con, I think it'd make more sense to take the opportunity to have an actual Eugene Cosplay Group in the future, and perhaps do a theme.  I suggest Phoenix Wright since it turns out we already have 3 or 4 Phoenix Wright series cosplayers among us.  Of course, this may not happen until next year, so feel free to attempt any Eugenian gathering at the con that you wish.  However I think it'd make sense if we stayed AT the con for such a gathering, and perhaps even did something con-related.

I've only ever played one of the Phoenix Wright games, and I didn't really enjoy any of the designs from it or any of its compatriots. I would suggest Trinity Blood but I'm pretty sure nobody wants to have to do that kind of crazy work. I would otherwise be all for forming a cosplay group here in town!

I already made a Eugene Cosplayers group on FB and it's slowly growing (very slowly) lolz; so that could be another way to keep in touch with each other as well as spread the word to other locals about our awesomeness. :'3 <-(Shameless advertising ftw. xD;)

But yeah, I'm up for making this group more official! : D A name would be a good head start. "Eugene Cosplayers" is too boring. xD

The problem with Ghibli stuff is that we'll have to decide on a singular movie or else we'll be one big mishy-mashy group.

Haha I was thinking that it would be fine since it was from the same studio. That way we don't hafta decide on one set show/movie and everyone will probably be able to decide on something that they like~ n.n

Don't like the designs?  I can't imagine why not.

Although I'd go on to say that it's not about the costume design first and foremost.  It's about... forgive the pun... the "mad props."  As Apollo Justice I carry around a briefcase and a number of signs that say "OBJECTION!" and "TAKE THAT!" etc.  It is extremely fun to point a finger and pose wildly with an exclamatory sign.  The Sakura Con Phoenix Wright cosplayers have a great time, posing for "briefcase duels" and the like.  Not to mention, a comfy suit with wild hair is an enjoyable combination.

Anyway, again, my main reasoning is that a number of us already have Phoenix Wright cosplays, and Phoenix Wright costumes are often very easy to put together since they involve a lot of standard modern day clothing.  It would make more sense for a first series than choosing a series no one has a costume from yet.

i second that motion

I like the name too.  I say we go with it.

THE ECCC! SOUNDS VERY ECO-FRIENDLY! : D

Yesss.  And if we set up a home base of operations, it could be called the "Emerald City Cosplay Corps Headquarters, International."  Or "ECCCHI" for short.

The problem with Ghibli stuff is that we'll have to decide on a singular movie or else we'll be one big mishy-mashy group.

I like the idea of  a Ghibli group too, though I can't guarantee I'd be able to participate.  Again, I'd like to know how many people ALREADY have Ghibli costumes.  For a first group theme I think we should take the path of least resistance.

Don't worry about looking mish-mashed.  Ghibli fans will be MORE excited to see multiple films represented, and it'll make the more obscure cosplays more recognizable.  At Sakura Con I saw a Nausicaa cosplayer with a Totoro cosplayer, and they looked very natural together due to Ghibli's unique style.

Have no idea who that is.  I'd recommend something well-known.

EDIT: Oh, the guy who did Galaxy Express 999.  Eh, I think it's a bit old school for our group.  Even I haven't seen anything but Interstella 555, and most of the group is younger than me.

Getting this many people to all like something and cosplay from the same fandom is really unlikely. We could do smaller groups, but not one this big. More like "Hey, this amount of people in eugene havea costume from this fandom, let's have a meetup!" or "hey, this small group likes this fandom, let's make a set!"

Addendum:

Waitaminnit.  What if we DID do Interstella 555?  That'd be awesome.   For those of you who don't know, that's the Daft Punk rock opera, set to the music from the album "Discovery."  Specifically, we could do the human versions of the Crescendolls.  They have more street clothes than most cosplays do.

XD I think that, for girls, Ghibli has a wider range of costumes and styles. I'd have to watch more Leiji Matsumoto stuff though, before I could make a definite conclusion. n.n

Blue paint everywhere comes to mind. But it would be pretty awesome nonetheless. That's probably the only Leiji Matsumoto I haven't at least dabbled in, when I mentioned him I was thinking more Space Pirate Captain Harlock or Galaxy Express 999.

Or perhaps Cowboy Bebop?

Or one of us could don tweed and a bowtie and we could go have magical adventures in space and time. [/shot]

Hey guys! I figured it was about time to post in this thread, since I'll be moving back to Eugene this September.

I dunno how well I'd be able to participate in any group cosplays. Unless we're going through with that Doctor Who suggestion. The stuff I do for my group already keeps me decently busy. .___.

I've always found those dolls a little creepy, but it's less "OH GOD GET IT AWAY EVIL SEED OF CHUCKY OH GOD" and more just a slight unnerving. They're just so pretty but they kinda just stare blankly at you. Bring it along if you want to, by all means! Just don't make it stare at me lol

@Malaria: I'll bring the fezzes, you bring the tweed? lol

@GenkiIchigo: I would go, but all that drive time would amount to nothing more than my staring blankly at a wall while people talked. I'll wait a couple weeks to go to Portland, yeah?

@ Sora....Yay for being up for seeing Scott Pilgrim again.

@ name. I love that it could be ECCC...then ECCHI when appropriate *raises eyebrow & giggles*

@ Lt. Cmdr Ritchie, OMG YES to anything Dr. Who.

Just spent part of the weekend watching series 2 Confidential Cut-Downs & some of David's video diaries.

@ Wuntvor, Congrats on your daughter's engagement. Say hi for me. I remember fondly collaborating with her on my art show at the Jawbreaker Gallery.

@ those not going to meeting--I went to the 1 2 wks ago. I am commuting back to Eugene 4 days in a row less than 2 weeks from now & just couldn't do it, can get more done for Creation Station from home (finishing scheduling, working on fanfic contest, pimping panels on forums) plus I don't want to risk "con crud" getting me or vice versa (hopefully present sniffles are just allergies).

@ FB group, I will look for that asap!

Love to all!

*glee* Happy with both posts above, & to have just joined Facebook group & sent friend adds, got one new friend already
my day is made :)

Is anyone going to the Free Shakespeare in the Park at 6 pm at Amazon Park?

In garb??

The person who makes all the costumes, and who is crossplaying one of the male characters, is my and Radien's friend AnnMarie. She made my first real "garb" i.e. middle ages type clothing for LARPing in the SCA. I designed it, we collaborated to pick materials, she sewed it, she is amazing.

If you might be up for that for tonight, or next Sunday let me know here, Facebook, or call/text (541) 606-0318.

I won't go next Sat because I'll be watching the last 2 eps of Persons Unknown! I might be the only person from Kumoricon who even knows it exists besides Squeek.

I will *probably* go...if I continue to get enough done, & if I don't get sucked into writing this epic fanfic idea I just had!
One of my panelists posted on my Facebook he'd like to view my dreams as a TV show.
Instantly I dreamt up a crossover of Inception & Strange Days with Dr. Who series 1, 9th Dr./Rose Satellite 5 (where Simon Pegg was The Editor). In my vision, the newest reality show broadcast from Satellite 5 involves actually watching & feeling others' dreams, wearing headsets like in Strange Days. Someone who wants to overthrow the tyranny controlling the human populace manages to learn the techniques from Inception to plant revolutionary thoughts & actions into a soon-to-be-mass-broadcast dream.

Yes.I.Must.Write.This.OMG.

Can't stop the signal~

OMG ...Fillion was in Eugene yesterday w/one of his Castle costars looking at the all-electric mini-cars they are each going to buy, made right down the street from me & I didn't know!
*squee*
*facepalm*
I am thinking of getting on Twitter just to follow him so I know when he's coming back to buy his electric car & being among the waving fans :) Of both his awesomeness & of electric cars!!!

Hmmm.  Might I point out that there's nothing stopping us from doing multiple cosplay groups?

I counted at least three of us who have interest in Phoenix Wright cosplay.  Are there 3 costumes among us?  If so, that's enough for a cosplay group at con this year.

Hmm, for that matter, I wonder if there's a Phoenix Wright photo shoot... I don't think there is... Maybe I should schedule one.

I was not suggesting their "smurf alien/Blue Man Group" versions. ;)  Remember how they were disguised as humans?  That's what I'm suggesting.  I've really wanted to see a Crescendolls group.  But if few to none of us are interested, then never mind.

Or one of us could don tweed and a bowtie and we could go have magical adventures in space and time. [/shot]

No one's going to shoot you for suggesting Dr. Who... or were you making fun of it?

Haha this is totally off the topic of what we're talking about right now, too, but is anyone else going to the meeting tomorrow? Er...today? 8D

Should be obvious by now, but no, I'm not there.  It's a long drive and I can't imagine I'd be of much use.

(I would tag along as you guys didnt kill me if I took one og my BJDs people like to call them anime dolls but they are not. *points to profile pic.* I take at least one with me every were)

I know about ball-jointed dolls/Dollfie. I imagine the people calling them "anime dolls" have seen the dolls that fans have dressed up in anime costumes, because I've never heard them called that.  I don't see why we'd ever frown on them.  If you want to keep company with fellow BJD owners, though,  you'll have to check and see if any of us share your interest.

Is anyone going to the Free Shakespeare in the Park at 6 pm at Amazon Park?

I went last night... I would join you but I'm not sure I want to sit through a Shakespeare tragedy again. You'll enjoy Annmarie, though.  She certainly wasn't type-cast; that's for sure.  I think they cast her as Banquo because there aren't enough large female roles, and she's too good to waste on a small role. Or perhaps she just read really well for Banquo.

My new favorite character from the play, MacDuff, was also played by a girl.

Everyone I know is getting tired of hearing me talk about Doctor Who, Radien. When I suggest it the reaction it usually garners now is "Dammit, woman..." so you'll have to forgive my trepidation, yeah?

I think ECCC was approved?

@ Lt. Cmdr Ritchie & @Radien-- I might have to wait until next week for MacBeth; I am expecting a very important call from my very-hard-to-reach Art Coodinator to finish planning the CS shift schedule!

@ LCR: I am the same way, cannot get Dr Who off the brain
