Welcome back! I disapeared too xD Happy day after halloween. I'm still planning on being Soul, and I still need to fix his bangs xD

I'm also gonna dye some fabric to get the perfect shade of orange for my hat, right now it's too dark.

O.O I hope not, I'm pretty short as is. And a majority of the other characters are supposed to be shorter than her..
The only people who need to be taller than that would be maybe Medusa, Free, Stein and Death Scythe...you know, the other adults...

with my boots I think I'm about 5'7" (normally 5'2)

I know how tall you are....oh wells I still need to get Tsubaki's boots..I can't really start on the actual cosplay for a while since I'll probably be a bit taller by next year...

*looks at Maka* ... *sighs* I need to really get it together and start fixing Maka... I need to find a better fabric for the vest, lining for the jacket, actually finishing the jacket, find another white shirt (because the hotel at Sakura con ate my old one) and then...*shudders* There's the boots to deal with...

It's sad, because I really like cosplaying her, but I feel like I'm back to square one with her and that's never any fun... I don't think she'll be back in the game for a while, and even then it might only be for photoshoots or something... I don't know...

Out of curiosity are there any Eruka cosplayers who can give an tips about constructing a hat? My friend is doing a really cute teen Angela cosplay, and we were planning on working on her lizard hat this weekend. Only problem is we are both totally terrified of it. XD

Um... I'm not too sure about hats, but I know the hat that came with my witch costume I bought for Halloween used a strong bendable chicken wire type thing to make sure it kept it's shape. I would prolly just do that.

We bought a bunch of wiring to use as a frame, we're just nervous about the actual body of the hat... I guess we'll just have to test a few things and see what works.

I wouldn't recommend my method, but I took chicken wire and made it into the shape of a cone that was about the size that I wanted, and then "molded" or shaped it with my hands until I got the shape I wanted.
then I covered it with strips of duct tape, glued on a layer of felt, and then covered in fabric.

the tail was just a piece of wire with cardboard attached to it, and then more felt was added to make it round.

the eyes could be made with either clay or foam. either way I suggest using some kind of sealant, then paint, then a finish (like a gloss)

the tongue would be easy, just 2 strips of wire covered in fabric and then rolled into a spiral.

oh and for the brim of that, I've heard that craft foam is a good option (the stuff that people use for armor sometimes)

I had no idea how to make the hat sit on my head, so I just got another hat and stuffed it inside.

Thanks for the input! Sounds pretty similar to the approach we had planned out, so I feel a bit better hearing that we're not coming up with a ridiculous plan. XD

Edit: My friend and I decided to make today a "work on cosplay" day and we've made some really good progress! I finished my eyepatch, found my base skirt (which had been MIA) and started getting the gold design into the shape I need it so I can sew it onto the skirt. Hoping to RIT dye my shirt pieces sometime this upcoming week. My friend has also finished her eye pieces for Angela, and I must say they look amazing! =]

for her hair, don't bother trying to "pull it up".
get a short styled wig and an extension, it'll look much nicer.
Though I'm not sure what you should use for the bandage :/

Bought some more dye for my Marie shirt today, so Monday I'll finally be able to get the color right and be ready to sew the bit of the shirt I have left. I need to finish the skirt sometime this next week too, but that will be fairly simple.

Uhh..Guys..no more K-con for me, it's too expensive this year so you'll have to find a new Kim and Tsubaki. Unless I can find a reallllly cheap place nearby thenthere's no chance of me going.
