I am hoping to go. One of my friends is obsessed with Jareth and now desperately wants to go .

Sounds like fun, especially since it has the sci-fi/fantasy aspect along with anime/manga.

Dealer's hall and Main Events are switching spots this year.  I'll try to have signs for the way to Main Events that doesn't involve going around everything and walking in the rain a bunch.
Yeah, the Slants were almost about to perform under office-grade flourescent lights last year. I think this is a very good move.

The loading dock should also help a ton with all that equipment.  I remember that being an issue last year because of all the narrow hallways.

ONE FLIGHT OF STAIRS
TWO-STORY HOTEL
NICE WIDE HALLWAYS
LOVING, COURTEOUS STAFF

...and we haven't even started talking about MEW yet. ^_^

And your guys' efforts are greatly appreciated! I enjoy the small, family-like feel to the con. It gives people a chance to get to know each other, which I greatly enjoy.

Yes I must admit I had alot more interaction with people last year at MEW as there was a bit more downtime and more people you can just talk face to face with. Plus lets face it- the colder weather keeps people inside and you can just in the lobby and talk.

Plus if you debut a shoddily made cosplay (*whistles*) to see how it goes over there is no better place to do it then at a small con.

and an insane amount of money for the hotel, if I was going to Sakuracon I would make sure my cosplay is the best I could have it just due to all the expenses and whatnot.

I hardly met anyone at MEW last year.  I think it's because I literally DID NOT LEAVE THE GAME ROOM AT ALL.  I left a few times to use the restroom, once when I randomly got a bloody nose, a few times during setup and teardown...basically, I lived in that room for 3 days. :P

So MEW, its really awesome I hear...
Why should I get somebody to take me to your lovely convention instead of spending my new years about the town?

1. Programming
We will have panels, concerts, contests, dances, gaming tournaments, and more going on for a total of over 60 planned programming hours
2. Friends
Meet new people who share your interests and hang out with old friends in a cozy, comfortable hotel with a lovely view of the Columbia River.
3. Vendors
Browse the wares of our vendors and familiarize yourself with some of Portland's hidden gems.  Find yourself some new favourite local shops and businesses, and peruse the art of our talented Artists.
4. Cosplay
Need a small environment to try out that new cosplay, or do you just want to show it off?  MEW Con is comfortably sized and conveniently timed to give you a break from your winter con withdrawls.

LOVING, COURTEOUS STAFF

Courtesy is always appreciated, but I get leery when hotel staff start trying to love me.

There are even laws against that in some states. (^_~)

I should clarify, I was banned from discussing the topic further.  I still have a username there and here is the private message I was sent by a moderator.  This smacks of censorship.  I realize that there are codes of conduct, but after re-reading yours I am not in violation.  If anything, I was telling the truth.  Everyone hates a whistle blower.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Yamila Abraham. As we do not want to incite rumor spreading, and flaming, your topic has been removed. Until the situation has been resolved all posts and topic regarding Yamila Abraham will be removed."

I was direct and to the point and I didn't character bash.  Here is the text of my post:*begin copy pasta*

"Are Mug Shots the new Head Shots?
Has anyone seen this news?  I'm not sure I'd want the negative publicity of having an honored convention guest who has been charged and arraigned on drug dealing violations.

I know a person is innocent until proven guilty... but should mug shots be replacing head shots?

"Snurf" sounds like it was a variant of "Robo Tripping" only more concentrated and in pill form.  Not only was this "drug or supplement" rebranded, it didn't contain herbs!  This could have been dangerous... she could have killed someone.

Does seem odd they have her as a guest still. Wouldn’t she not be going now, so she can focus on her case? Especially if not guilty.

But you’re innocent until proven guilty, so I understand why they wouldn't want it talked about in the forums right now. That first article you posted was all the prosecuting side of the story, none of her defense side was mentioned. they could have not read the second link after reading the first. And... in your post you have "I know a person is innocent until proven guilty... but " that part there can be taken as inciting rumor by some people.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Yamila Abraham. As we do not want to incite rumor spreading, and flaming, your topic has been removed. Until the situation has been resolved all posts and topic regarding Yamila Abraham will be removed."

As I said in my PM to you on the M.E.W.con forums, you were you were asked not to discuss this topic further until M.E.W.con has decided what we are going to do regarding this situation. As I am sure you are aware, she is still planned as a guest for the con however, we are discussing this situation internally. The media tends to takes stories and run with them without doing any research into facts. This leads to a great deal of problems for every one. If you read through her blog she says "When convention chairs panic they could pull Yaoi Press from their shows". We are not going to be one of the conventions that panics and pulls a guest before all of the information has been presented.

So, I got deleted and banned for asking a question about Yamila Abraham on the MEW forums.  Can I ask here, or will you ban me, too?
Horribly bad form, misleading people like that.

So, just to clarify, you have not been banned from the M.E.W.con forums or any action taken against you. That post has simply been removed, as will all others until we have decided what we are going to do.
