Got pants for Jareth so far, and I hope to buy some clay or something to make his pendant soon. :3

I've got my cosplays for Ronald Knox and William T Spears pretty much all the way done(i've had them done for awhile), but I'd like to get a Ciel cosplay if I have enough money this year(after I get my geckos, money will be set aside for K-con!) if not, I've got 2 Ronald outfits(though I need a new vest for one of them) and 1 for Will, though I'd like to get at least one more of his outfits.

Deed Progress!

I have the money to get the resin now I can start working on the chest armor. I can also probably buy the gold trim that is going to go around the armor and the neck of the dress. I think I am also going to get some fake lashes for this costume. But I am very happy with the way it looks on me :3

I think I'd agree... it looks the most like real hair, and the shade that Ciel was wearing when he was in the dress.

This is the first time I'm making costumes, in 2009 when I first went to Con I ordered everything but this year I'd have to specially order and there's no guarentee they'd get it right.
My progress thus far: Slow.
I went to Joanns the other day and found the perfect suede fabric. I bought my earrings for Ember and picked out the wig for Kahvi (not ordering until I know for sure I'm making her).
And thanks to Black~Rose I have the perfect ears for both, I will order that as soon as I get some money coming in. I still have not decided if I'm getting a wig for Ember or if I'm just going to style my own hair.
I need to pick up a sewing machine Friday, but I don't exactly know what I should get, any suggestions as a general idea? I'm not sure what they have at the store right now, but it'd be good to know what to look for and what to stay away from.

I've got a Husqvarna Viking which works pretty well. It's a...Emerald 114, I want to say? Fairly basic, it cost about 400 dollars but it's sturdy and easy to use, even for someone like me who's still pretty new to sewing.

My Princess Bubblegum wig came today! Thankfully it fits fine under my crown, so I just need to cut the bangs and I'll be good there. I got a gift certificate to Fabric Depot for Christmas, so perhaps sometime this week I'll buy fabric and start making her dress. I want to finish her by the end of January if at all possible so I can devote enough time to Dolorosa.

I have a Husqvarna Viking also. Pretty spiffy machine.
Mine was somewhere around 400. It's not super fancy, but I love it because it has never failed me.
Even after sewing ruffles.

Anyone have any suggestion's as to armor? I need it for Kahvi(the chest plate you see on the picture in my sig) and boots, among other things.
I have a little experience with shaping things (made clay masks 5 years ago for my brothers school sale) and I can paint, I just need to figure out what to make it out of, which is what I'm having trouble with. Someone suggested wonderflex to me a long time ago when I was planning to make a weapon but I want to make sure I have options since this would be a first.

I'm making some chest armor out of craft foam and so far its going pretty good. I got the pattern cut out and shaped a little. My next plan is to make a dress form/mannequin for myself out of duct tape (just put on a crappy t-shirt and put duct tape on it to make a replica of your chest.) Then I am going to attach the armor to that, finish shaping it and then resin it to strengthen it.

This is the armor I'm making

Its not the best looking so far but here is my chest armor

I made the base out of craft foam and for the breast I used bra cups and placed them where I needed to be and traced them on the craft foam then cut the craft foam and taped the bra cup in since the craft foam wouldn't shape properly. Once I make my dress-form I will put this on it and use some modge podge to smooth it out a little then add resin. I tried to put clay on the top of the craft foam but it cracked since it wasn't shaped right. Sorry if that's confusing. Let me know if you want me to explain it more.

That sounds really good for the shoulders, do you think it'll be durable enough for continuous use, especially for the chest?
It would need to withstand constant wear, this is a costume I'm going to be using for more than Kumoricon.
Would I be able to attach extra things onto it? Like belt buckles and straps.

Resin is liquid plastic that dries hard. I have some armor that I didn't use resin for and I just used elmers glue and it is supper strong. The resin will help strengthen it but I would suggest gluing a few layers of cloth on the inside of the armor with elmers glue. That helps strengthen it quite a bit. My armor has zippers on the side (the ones that separate) so I can take it off without bending the armor (it wont be easy to bend easily but if you do try hard enough the resin will crack.) Basically what I would suggest would be to follow this tutorial http://www.entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html
but before you paint put a layer or two of resin on it to make it supper strong (you can get resin at most craft stores with the glue). Another option could be to cover it with clay then resin over the top.

So, I've been looking at ways to make my Toof costume work.
