I'm baaaaaack!

Okay, so I basically altered the dress.
I added a short sleve. I am keeping them short simply because the dress itself will probably not be worn without the jacket.
I also changed the lace fronting (thanks for the tip!) for something a bit simpler.

And again, this is still not proportional.
I'm sorry. I know it looks kind of bad but...I'm being lazy. ^^"

Okay, the shape of the skirt seems to be a problem.
Your skirt is shaped like an umbrella, going out like a trapezoid. What you need is a bell-shaped skirt, and that would help a lot.

Also the neckline is still weird, I think. It looks really low, which would be fine, except the sleeves would make it awkward to wear a blouse under.

It's definitely an improvement though, good job!

Hey guys

my basis for design:
-Ed wears a black jacket under the red one. Try incorporating this as a cardigan tied with a silver string (like his buckle) and have a jumperskirt underneath.
-The cape is ed's signature item (well, automail aside) so it'd be nice if you didn't alter it. I think it'd be fine longer than the skirt.
-Ed isn't so "gothic". He wears white, black and red. Try not to use so much redxblack, or it looks to costume-goth D: I would even use a toned down red instead of something striking as you would normally make for Ed. Also, his gloves would be fine with this, and would add a nice touch of white.
-Cosplays usually are made up of big details rather than tiny ones (usually) so try bias tape and ruffles instead of any lace. This should cut down costs a bit, too.
-Boots can work with lolita, depending on the outfit... His boots might work here, but I'm not so sure...
-Oh yeah, and you might want OTK socks or tights to hide your "automail" 8'D I think it'd be neat if you could like... idk, draw on one of the socks somehow or have some sort of padding inside to make it look like automail was underneath. Orrrr that might look terrible, I wouldn't know.

yay lolita. I got my dress and once my friend saw it he freaked. due to it was the dress he wanted to get for his girlfriend. and i have it in black and white. I yet to finshes my outfit due to I feel way to much like a doll and I do not have time to make the head pice that i want to go with it.

It's kinda maid looking but its very pretty following the rule of not showing to much skin. Its good you are helping others with lolita its a very hard fashion to follow. Theres are a lot of do and donts as well. rember you dont have to have long hair to do lolita short is hair fine as well and there are many cute hair styals you can do.

anyways wondering if you guys can help me find a head pice that is white or black even both for my black and white pokadot outfit I have and a red headpice that my friends like to call my punk lolita. I dont have photos for it but anyways any ideas i would love to hear them.

Yeah, rectangle(ish) headpieces are really out of style now. An alice bow, or even a hat or a headband might look better.

fff pics (withruler) and how much length you have? ono (I know I've seen it but still xD)

First thing that comes to mind is a simple floral print jsk or dress with that by the bottom of the skirt and at the neckline (but hanging downwards)
WHICH ISN'T VERY DESCRIPTIVE I KNOW~
When it's wide, I don't think twotoned lace would look that well unless you'd a decent fabric that would balance both colors evenly... You could have a set of white ruffles at the bottom of your skirt (or under your lace, wherever you use it) so the white blends in a bit, still providing detail (kind of like this but not sure how well that'd look with two colors)
When all else fails, you can make accessories. C:

sohaha I think bringing it with you fabric shopping and finding a good fabric to go with it would be a start. Whenever you use a patterned fabric, it's best to make a simple garment, so narrowing down a design should be easy once you have a choice or two.

---

'nother topic: I want to start decoden-ing, maybe just a little to get more accessories, but the best and probably cheapest way is to get supplies in groups, and I doubt I'd use them all x-x (like a pack of 12 little bear things, I'd probably only want 2...) Even if you make your own little cookies or something, it'd be a waste of money not to use all that clay and caulk D<

SO, does anyone decoden, or would anyone be interested in a workshop where we pooled our supplies? :0

Dana: Post pics! It sounds cute!

Hazu: YESSSS. I want to decoden stuff, but I don't have anything much to deco >: I don't like my phone and will hopefully be getting a new one. I kinda want to deco my DS, or maybe my iPod. I should pick up some clear cases...

Hey guys! I was just wondering if I could have some feed back and opinions on a outfit I made back in December.. Its technically a Hatsune Miku loli but IDK. I BARELY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT LOLITA.
And I was thinking about fixing it based on your opinion.

Close up

These things jump out at me immediately:
-The skirt looks a bit too long and not full enough
-The sleeves give the outfit a really strong costume-like look. Gathered full sleeves and bell sleeves are kind of out of fashion.
-Whitexblue is kind of awkward. This is mostly a personal opinion, but I think that outfits that are a color (other than white) on white look... Not very good. It gives it a super 80's/90's Mana feel.
-The big shiny ribbons look awkward and also costumey.

Would you want to modify the outfit or completely remake it?

I think if you just take off the long part of the sleeves and wear a petticoat it'll look nice. Maybe lose the satin ribbon (on your collar) and use a sewn bow instead?

Go watch Marie Antoinette, the Sophia Coppola one~ That's my favorite movie.

White and gold sound really pretty, those two definitely go together. Very Rococo.
I've been wanting to do a hime-loli outfit for a while, but I want to wait until I lose more weight to do it.

Haley: that's exactly what we were doing, duh. Also, get on MSN.

Well Baby used to sell some cute hime-esque dresses, but right now there aren't too many. Anyways, I think OPs tend to look better with hime because the square necklace/half sleeves can be done, and a blouse can make that look funny.

I'm looking at Baby's site now, and they have some JSKs that look hime styled:

I tried making a bodice sloper the other day and couldn't figure it out. SLEEVES, HOW DO THEY WORK?

(seriously, someone give me a pattern or something. I've tried that "OP with gathered sleeves" tutorial and just got stuck various times.)

Yeah, it's really difficult. I mostly look at dresses online then take the parts that I like and put them into my own designs.
It's easy to do with AP since a lot of their dresses have wtf elements to them.

Oh yeah, a lot! This is more of a personal preference, but the light blue/white/cream colors are too close to each other and clash a bit. A white blouse would look a lot better.

I disagree DD: All white rarely looks good unless the outfit is detailed, and that goes for most fashion.

I think the blue looks fine. The only thing clashy to me is the blue on the dress to the blue on the blouse, but it's hard to tell from just that picture... It could work. Try to balance out the blue in the lower part of the outfit, maybe by altering the skirt or adding a bow to it, or blue and white or lightblue socks or something. There's also that the white of the shoes and dress don't seem to match, but it wouldn't be as noticeable irl because your shoes are in the shadows anyway.

Also, that blouse... It's hard to tell from the pic xD try to get a rounded collar? (it isn't that hard to take apart and alter, actually)

Other than that, I think this would look adorable *3*

Well it would be a cream dress with a white blouse and white shoes, but that would still look a bit strange, I think...

The underskirt (white) is gathered at the waist. You can make it with a long rectangle of fabric, measuring however short/long you want it, by the waist measurement times 3.

The overskirt (blue) is made with a specific pattern. Each panel of the dress should be sort of an hourglass shape; the top being the bust, then the waist, have it steadily flare out in a curve to however wide you want it. Look at your own dress to figure the best way to draft it (angles and slopes and lines and all that stuff)

And of course, to keep it all poofed out, you need a petticoat. Since that's sort of inconvenient for a child, and since it would probably be small enough for the ruffles of the underskirt to help keep it up, sew some gathered tulle into the lining of the skirt. c:
