Cosplay Book Club?
« on: February 16, 2009, 11:49:23 am »
Idea: Cosplay Book Club doubling as a Cosplay group.

What we'd do:
1.) Come up with things to cosplay (Ie: Harry potter, Naruto,  Death note, etc.)
2.) If one of us or more does't know about something we would be cosplaying- we'd read the first volume of the manga.
3.) Once we are all done with reading it, we'd come back and discuss it.
4.) We'd see if it would be fun to cosplay.
5.) We would go to meetings together, and travel around the con together, because we're a group. We are one.

Rules:
I really don't care how old you are, just don't be as old as my mom (44). I'd like the age limit to stop at 24. Just to be comfortable.
Comfort zones are a must- please don't intrude them.
Please don't request explicit material as something to read. Please.
Please respect each and every person, because as Marther Luther King Jr. Says: "All men are created equal."

hmmm. quite interesting. at least its not a real book club(I hate those...so much >_<).

I'm possibly up for the idea.

I'm guessing you were considering a book store or library to be a good meeting place. Because then there's multiple copies of the book we're reading and it's quiet and less distracting then other places for usual meetups.

Yeah, there's a nearby library near by my house, and near down-town portland. I thought it would be fun, getting to learn about more things, and having fun in the process. There is also a library in my school. XD

YAY! So how old are you guys? I am... twelve. Going on thirteen. In July.

ANYWAY- any requests on what we should start out with? We should start out with something everybody knows and work our way up.

hmmm we could meet up at Powells book store also. Its really large and there is tons of manga and tons of space as well.

I'm 16(17 in april). so wait, basically are we one big cosplay group or helping each other figure out who/what they want to cosplay while finding out and discussing series?

We are a Cosplay group mixed with a Book Club.

If one of us doesn't know about a specific manga, we'd have to read the first volume as a whole. :) Then once we are done with the first volume, we'd discuss and see if we'd like to cosplay it.

Make sense now?

I don't mind. I'd like to cover most characters that are main points of the story line.

Like death note, you need about five people.

Hey, So, i was sitting here one day, thinking about book clubs.

This the result....

A cosplay group/bookclub.
- Discuss what we would cosplay as (ie Death Note, Naruto, Fruits Basket.)
- If one of us doesn't know about the anime or manga, we'd read the first volume of the series. THEN we'd discuss, and cosplay.

Goodgood?

Let's do it!

This sounds fun! But not for this year. I already have cosplays planned and almost done. And unless you guys wanna do Black Cat???

And also for people to think about when choosing a manga to cosplay from: think about the cost. There will probably be people who don't have that much money to be able to spend on lots of cosplay material (aka: me) and so would either need loans or just wouldn't be able to do it.

Example (just becasue I'm doing it): Black cat would be a good one to do for the clothes are uniqe enough to be fun to make, but they're also normal enough to be able to find stuff at Goodwill and change it. Unlike a manga like Vampire Knight--they all have the same outfit which is their uniform, and it isn't that easy to make and can be very expensive.

That's why we go to Libraries., manga wise.

As for costumes, we could also do (Insert manga here) meets (insert another manga here.) to make it easier for some of us.

XD Also,  if you're doing Black Cat, our first could be something mui simplede. I have NO clue if I spelt that wrong, but it will be VERY SIMPLE. :)

I have to recommend Death Note. It's popular, interesting to discuss, and chock full of pre-prepared philosophical and ethical arguments. Excellent book club.

Yeah, but also over done....I'm sorry, I DO love Dn but there are just WAY TOO MANY cosplayers...

I would be very happy to see more cosplayers of Black Cat. Last year, I didn't see ANY. And this year, I only know of three, myself being one of them TT.TT

And YES. Death Note is a very simple cosplay. Like L : Long white sleeved shirt with a pair of jeans. XD

XD I agree with the DN. Simple outfits that overly hard to find at Good Will/ other second hand shops, and excellent arguments.:D Plus, its always fun to dress up as a megolomaniacal psychotic teenager not even in college whose found his calling.

Never heard of it. Maybe Starbucks would be a better idea.

Starbucks (because it's wide open to anyone.)

Somewhere in Lloyd Center... maybe around the ice rink.

Each-others houses, if we're all comfortable.

No worries.  It's near downtown -- it's the largest independent books store in the world, taking up several city blocks.

Augh! I'm sorry, I wasn't watching the topic!

[answers question on first page] I'm 13 X3

And I vote Powell's as a good meeting place, because it's so dang BIG.
I go there VERY often, and although it's usually really crowded
(like, NO TABLES ANYWHERE IN THE CAFE) there are certain
sections of the huge bookstore that are quiet and have barely
any people around.

EDIT: how can you not notice this place when going downtown?

Maybe the weekend after that....

Okay, so we have:
Powell's
Starbucks
Barnes and Noble...
The downtown huge library- the glass one, y'know? Cool place. X3

I might come just to meet people and give my intake. I could also help people with cosplay if they need it, or picking a character since I know them all by heart...I'm such a geek.........

Anywho, I'd say powell's, since i actually know where that place is. But, a place that's close to the MAX line would be the best, since that'll probably be my form of transportation.
