Our at-con photoshoot is planned for Monday (Day 3/last day of con) at 11 am. We'll be meeting at Pioneer Square by Starbucks and possibly moving somewhere else after we all meet up.

Hi, there~ I'll be going as Anri on one of the days, and my friend dewbMonster will be my Kida. So excited for seeing Durarara this year!

Okay, postan to gauge where/when exactly we should have our shoot. I was thinking we could meet up in an easy place, like Pioneer Square (although it might be a bit crowded since everyone and their mom seems to be meeting there) and then head to a different location for pictures.
I don't know my way around downtown too well, but I'm thinking I should scope the area out to try to find a really cool area for pictures. Somewhere with really modern buildings, like high-tech Tokyo.

In the mean time, what time should we meet? I'm thinking around 1pm, does that work for people?

We could probably just start somewhere that everyone knows of, and then migrate somewhere else like you said.
The inside of the hotel is always super crowded, so we should try to avoid that..I guess Pioneer Square would be a good place since it's really easy to find

Okay, but any ideas of where we could migrate to? I'm going to try to go downtown a couple of times this summer just to look for a good photoshoot location within walking/MAX distance.

the only other thing I can think of would be the parking garage.
We did that for one of the Soul Eater shoots and it looked pretty sweet! I think the all the cement and random road marking plus the lighting would look really cool for DRRR! (it kind of looks like the meeting place of the Yellow Scarves)

Well they already announced that they were doing a second season, but I've heard conflicting things about whether or not the second half of the season is considered the second season- the area where the OP and ED ended; the second arc.
But regardless, I hope they continue the series! It is based on a series of light novels, and not everything from the novels happened in the anime, so there is stuff they can include.

oh, and on a cosplay related note: I AM HAVING SERIOUS COMMITMENT ISSUES WITH CUTTING MY HAIR FOR RIO!! I'm going to do it. My hair needs a trim. But I've never had it this long before so it makes me a little sad to cut it, but then I'm relived when I realize that it will be back by the time I start college. WOO!

Oh man same. I decided to man up and cut my hair for Anri since my hair is too long and thick to get under a short wig for Meiko, and I'm having second thoughts. I've been growing my hair out since the end of freshman year, and it's super long now.
But yeah I keep telling myself that I have my whole life to grow it out again, and plus if it's short I can wear pretty casual wigs...

I have some layers, but my hair is so ridiculously thick that it doesn't matter. I think it's the longest I've ever had it, too.

As of today, I now have hair that's about Anri's length. This is pretty exciting, one of my friends has hair similar to this and she can put on a wig easily but just putting her hair into a few ponytails. Maybe I'll actually be able to wear wigs now!

Oh man I need to really step up my working out. I worked out a few days ago, and then two days ago I walked all over Portland and got a crazy workout. Today I had a big photoshoot in central Oregon, but I could probably fit a workout in before I go to bed.
But on Wednesday I'm leaving for vacation for a week... I can probably take long walks by myself, but that's sometimes boring >:

In actual DRRR cosplay news, my grandma agreed to help me sew my Anri jacket, but we're not going to do it until August, and hopefully by then I'll have lost enough inches on my waist and I'll have my special Anri bra and we can fit it properly. I also need to remake the skirt, but I, again, need to lose inches off my waist first. So for now I can get the shirt (since I'll have to take the waist in anyways to fit her giant boobs) and glasses.

For excersis I just wake up in the morning and the firs thing I do is ride my bike to the beach and back, which can be a good 30-40 min. workout. I used to run, but I'm waiting until July because I'm trying to build up a little endurance with the biking.

And yes, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! I love Rio's outfit, it's gonna be a super fun last day of the con!

I usually do the elliptical for 30 min and then do around 40 situps.

So for Anri's glasses, I'm planning on getting a nice pair of Harry Potter glasses. The ones I found have the HP logo on the sides, but I'm going to sand it off. Also I remembered that I still have to make Saika! That'll be fun, I've never made a sword before.

Yeah totally make a sign! At Sakuracon I saw a great Shizuo who had a "no parking" sign with "DURARARA!!" spray painted on in Japanese. It was awesome.

For now the meeting place is Pioneer Square and we're meeting at 11 am. Like I said earlier, I want to scope out downtown and look for some places to take pics. I'm also trying to find out if the roof of the hotel is open to the public, but I doubt it is.

If we're talking about cosplay progress, I just got the fur for my coat today as well, and I already have a wig, so I pretty much am done except for the game board. (Izaya is such an easy cosplay...XD I've also done Shizuo, and I'll be debuting Shinra this month, but nonetheless DRR for the most part has somewhat easy cosplays.)

A few days ago my friends and I were talking about how DRRR cosplays might become the new Death Note cosplays DD: I really hope that isn't the case.

Curious, is there any way you can dye fur or stain it a certain color? I know Izaya's fur on his coat is a bit darker than white, kinda an off-white/tan, although I've seen people do it with white and it looks fine too...I'm kinda afraid of it losing its fluffiness if I do...

As far as I know (don't quote me, please!), you can dye fur. I know one of my friends dyed fur fabric for a costume, I can ask her what the process is. It might be different since it was shorter fur than jacket trim.

My suggestion would be trying a little dye on a piece of scrap fur that isn't on the jacket. That way you can see how it turns out, and if you like it, you can dye the rest of it too.

So I decided to go along with the tea dying idea on my coat since it looked nice on the test fabric. You can find new pics (five at the top) here: http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n257/Dietrich_san/Izaya%20Preview/

It's unfortunately a little hard to tell in pictures, but in real life I can see the difference. It feels more wool-like (looks more like actual wool/fur which is cool), and is a darker color, almost an off-white yellowish color, and I like it a lot. It also smells like hazelnut chocolate tea. =D

If anyone decides to do this method, just know that when it dries, it's a much lighter color than when it was wet. Also, try to "blend" blotches together with less-colored areas near it to get a more even color by "smooshing" them together with your fingers. It turns out nice in the end.

I just remade the skirt I'm using for Anri, but I think I did the pleats wrong so I have to remake it again :/
Although, in somewhat good news, my grandma (who said she'd help me make the blazer) instead offered to buy me the blazer. I found one website that actually sold women's blazers in the right aqua blue color, but I'm checking the website now and it looks like they don't have any in that color anymore. If anything, I could just dye a white blazer, but I really want to make sure I get the right color. I've seen a lot of people mess up the colors of Anri's uniform and I want to get it right.

So today Haley and I had hardcore sewing, and we both got quite a bit done:


I completely remade the skirt, my god. Third time. I'm done.
I still need to dye my hair (Saturday, hopefully!), get glasses, get the right shirt, and get the blazer. (And get the bra that makes me two cup sizes larger lololol)


Haley made the sweatshirt and started the scarf, and she also found these shoes in her closet. Those aren't the pants she's wearing btw, she has a pair that are manlier. And her wig is on the way :D

I've been deeply inspired by pictures and parts of the anime...I'm thinking of getting some extra fabric and maybe shirt and making a bloodied version of Kida too for some photos. I just need to think of some effective fake blood mixture. Since I know the kind of "fake blood" they sell in stores isn't that great...at all.

Oh my gosh bloodied Kida would be so cool! And actually I have some fake blood I got at a party store that's pretty good, it actually looks real when it's wet. I don't really have a use for it anymore, you can have it if you want.

And Dana I'm planning on hairspraying my hair on Monday. I've had my hair like this for about three and a half hours and nothing has changed. Hng I want my mom's straightener now, it gets super hot which is why it works so well. Plus it makes my hair all shiny ;-;

And Man-Celty! The sad thing is that man has a better body than most Celty cosplayers. Although you can see his bra or whatever through the suit :/

I've never ordered from Amphigory, but I think the wig would work fine~ Anri's bangs are slightly more blunt than the wig's, but that would be easy to fix.

I probably shouldn't give away my secret, but my plan is to buy a pair of deluxe Harry Potter costume glasses and sand off the HP logo. They're realistic glasses in the right shape with clear glass in them! I've actually gotten dollar store reading glasses and broken the glass out for a costume, it looked okay. I'd do that this time but they don't sell round reading glasses.

Clair's doesn't have the wire rimmed, but they do have a variety of colored thick rimmed glasses, I found out the other day. xD

They're powered reading glasses, but I kept the glass in. They're the lowest power I could find, and for the most part, don't affect my vision after about 30 seconds of wearing them. I'm just not going to wear them when not hanging out in the main con area, and I'm going to take painkillers to make sure they don't give me a headache.
If you want to get a similar pair, check out Dollar Tree, that's where I got mine. They didn't have rounded glasses in the past (that I know of) but I saw them today and just happened to have an extra dollar.

Anyways, I've broken the glass out of reading glasses before and I suggest taking a nail and hammer and just hitting the sharp end of the nail into the glass. They should just pop right out. But be careful, my dad did this for me once and he accidentally broke the frame >: That was before I hot glue gun so I just dealt with it, but I'm sure a little dab of glue would fix it.
And I'm glad you like them! I also ordered my blazer today, I'm so relieved that I'll probably finish Anri before the con. We'll bro out and be harassed by the many Kidas, okay? XD

And for my sweatshirt, I just used jersey fabric from Joanns, and a big sweatshirt from my closet for a pattern sort of thing, except it wasn't all the way correct, so I kind of messed around with it untill i got the fit right.

also, if you got one from joanns, it wouldbe pretty easy to take the pocket off. And as long as there isn't a zipper, it should work fine.

IAWTC. I use seam rippers SO MUCH in my cosplay adventures...yet sometimes rip the piece of clothing by mistake, and there's not much you can do about that unless you sew it, and even then it makes it look uneven. =\

I know! I loved it, and I'm hoping to salvage it if I can. I know why it broke after I think about it. I made a STUPID mistake. The top was already starting to fall off, but hadn't fully dried yet, so I wrapped it in black electrician's tape. THAT is where I screwed up. I should've waited until it dried to do that. Because now the upper part is softer than all the rest and is at risk of falling off. THE REST is fine. Just the part that matters is breaking. DX

Success! My wig came in and the costume is here, so I've offically got Anri ready, except for glasses. I'll try and get a pic, but I don't know how I'll upload one off my phone, haha. So excited for the con now!

Well I pretty much fixed the crowbar (phew!) but now I'm stuck with a really crappy white sweatshirt with a zipper and front pockets. Oh well, it was cheap and last minute so it works. xD

Also! I just finished hemming my two yellow scarves so once I get my wig my cosplays will be complete. That and once I finish painting/puting together my crowbar.

Yesterday I bought dye for the blazer, and that evening my day texted me to say my blazer came in! I'll probably get it Thursday and dye it that evening.

you go to my account, then look under the "won/purchased". The wig should be listed in there. Mine had a tracking number next to it. Also, did you make sure that the money actually came out of where it was?

But like I said I didn't HAVE an account. I was under a guest name, it assigned me a name but no password since I didn't exist. Thus I have no "won/purchased" section. xX;;;;;;

And yeah the money went out; and it has been shipped. I just dunno how long it'll be until it actually gets here.

You haven't gotten a letter on your door or anything right? Because we had to have someone sign for it. If there is no one at your house to sign for it, then they leave a notice that they will try again the next day and after that you have to pick it up from the post office. Almost all of the wigs I have gotten just went in my mailbox, but this one was different...must be because its a Kida wig xD He's so special.

No I haven't, my dad told me nothing has come. But we're both around so if someone does come to the door I'm sure we'll get it. All of my wigs have tended to come in the mail too but if this one is different then...well who am I kidding it suits it so well. Kida deserves the extra attention. ;3

I'm so glad I cut my hair for Anri, actually, because the place I was going to order my wig from was the place I got my Meiko wig from. Plus now my hair fits under my wigs and my boyfriend likes it :3

It's so huge on me lolol in that pic it's pinned back but still huge. And, luckily, it's a lot darker than it was on the website, so I might not have to dye it. Compared to the box of dye I have, the blazer is only like a few shades lighter.

Okay, so I've made a decision. I'm wearing Izaya on Friday as well as Monday. But on another note, I'm going to attend two photoshoots on Monday, DRR (@11) and DW (@1). I can hang with you guys for about an hour, but after that I've gotta get back to my room and change. =X We can still do the photos we were talking about if your hotel room is close to the con center? (The one with the horn or something you wanted me to do with a Kida. xD)

Anyways, totally excited for the con~ We start our epic three hour road trip down tomorrow, and will hopefully be able to sleep a few good hours before waking up insanely early to get our badges.
