I finally got Russia's jacket arrows outlined in bias tape. I had to do it by hand, and getting bias tape to go at acute angles and reverse right angles was quite tricky.

All that's left are some button holes, some snaps, and a readjustment of the collar since there's an angle I didn't notice at first. Oh well. Easy fix.

I started over with Russia's scarf. They discontinued the yarn that was the perfect shade of pink, but I found another that will suffice. It's a little pearly pink, but it's very soft and doubled up is making a really thick scarf.

Lychee is pleased.

SEMI-OFFICIAL PLANNING BUSINESS

Auricle and I were walking around downtown today, and we had a very durr realization. Director Park, the new park block a block or so from Pioneer Square and about three blocks from the Hilton, has a huge glass cover over a chunk of its space. It tends to be pretty busy when it's nice out. HOWEVER. If it's raining, there'll be fewer people, and I think it would make a really good secondary location. Unless it's storming and the rain's going at a slant and everything is miserable. Then we'd be screwed regardless. But in the case of some normal downpour, I think it would serve us well.

Any potential roadblocks I'm not considering here? I'd really like to have a secondary location that isn't the ballroom floor hallway, mostly because I am never having a photoshoot in there ever again.

Brilliant idea! I know exactly where you're talking about. It's by the Multnomah County Library, isn't it? That's a great location.

(And I'm shocked at my self with this efficiency with Russia. Normally I'm very last minute. I've got another cosplay to make that's way more complex to make.)

Hopefully I'll have my Russia coat done tonight. If so, I'll take photos!

Saki: Google Maps is your friend.

Lychee: Either Yagi or Hashi will probably be the official person-to-be-glommed-on-and-followed for the Saturday shoot, but if you wanna hang with whoever it ends up being to make the guide-group more visible, I would totally appreciate that.

I finished my jacket! Now to find better boots and finish my scarf! It needs to be... oh... eight feet long. *sigh* Welp, did it before with my Hufflepuff scarf, I can do it again. Old scarf is pictured. You can see how dinky it is.

I'm pretty proud of the way this fits. It actually feels like it fits properly. Maybe a touch too small.

See what I did there? Ha! I'm so clever.

That looks really excellent. How'd you get the bias tape to look so clean and neat?

Everything fits better after you iron it obsessively. This is a true story.

Please bring your kolkolkol to the photoshoot. I think it will set the right tone.

Oh, the "kol kol kol" will be at the shoot.

I followed this tutorial for bias tape for the most part: http://taeliac.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Putting-on-Bias-Tape-80629818?q=boost%3Apopular+bias+tape+tutorial&qo=0
The only difference is that I pretty much flipped the position of the bias tape in that. The stitching that lies on top of the bias tape is on the front of my jacket rather than remaining untouched. The backside of the jacket looks AWFUL when it comes to stitching.

As for the arrows, it's really not clean. I could only do it by hand, and it shows because of it.

Oh man, I am so making a tailor's ham. Those things look like god sends when it comes to ironing out curves and collars.

I'd love to see the progress everyone else has. There was such vibrant discussion about Greece and Turkey.

Thanks for dying on my while I was writing a post, internet. D:

Thanks for the tutorial! Looks very helpful.
I think it's a rule of cosplay that unlined jackets will look terrible inside.

Ooh, another new thing I had never heard of before! I always used the curved end of the ironing board and a crapton of steam to make up for the flatness of the ironing board.

I've actually considered a couple of characters that don't appear to be in the series for a cosplay lately: Holland or North Korea.  There's a lot of fanart on DeviantArt, though, and I think I've got pieces that'd work for a North Korea military uniform cosplay already.

And out of curiosity, what canon countries/characters aren't commonly cosplayed?  (is new to APH, but finds it amusing so far)

EDIT: Also, I don't know if it matters much, but I can play tons of national anthems on either flute or piano/keyboard.

Holland has appeared. Only a couple official pictures so far and a few official comics, mostly about Netherlands, America and the opening of Japan, which are in the main Hetalia LJ comm under the "official site" or "netherlands" tag.

We're at the point where the series has been around so long that everyone is cosplayed. Except Cameroon, since we only have FIFA images of him. Oh, and a couple micronations were super-recently introduced, (Principality of Wy, Principality of Seborga) so they probably don't have cosplayers yet. If you want to do a rare cosplay but can't choose a rare character, doing a historical or traditionally clothed version might work. The outfits drawn for Children's Day are pretty rarely done, (except Austria and Hungary) and the official child versions (They're different things. It's confusing.) of most of the characters are also pretty rare. If you want to do some research and come up with a historical costume for a particular nation that isn't used officially anywhere, that'd be pretty awesome.

That is some seriously awesome skill right there.

Rare costumes in APH. -grins- I'd say design one for an older Nation.
Russia could have so many.
America=Rev war(has official), Civil war.....
The Nordics=Their Viking versions.
^We're actually in the process of starting some Nordics of our own....So....Much....Fur.

Anyways, I'd say do Holland. They -did- release his uniform, and it looks amazing.
Or else that's some darn good fan art.

Malaria:Straight up! ^^I've always wanted to do his (not so) Standard uniform. ^^ Though, I do want to do his Seven years war, one day. After everything else. -stares at list-

His uniform is pretty much Wehrmacht standard, it just happens to have Himayura's usual research-fail attached. XD

Rev War America isn't all that rare, actually. o.o I trawl Hetalia comm and devArt cosplay a looot, and it's not the most common thing, but I've definitely seen a double dozen.

But, it is less common then the other's? Somewhat? The harder Hetalia stuff is starting to come out more, so it's kinda exciting. I want to see some more Pirates, personally. Holland, Spain, England and France(I think) Could all be done for it!

I have more internet than I thought I did, huzzah! -stole sister's laptop-

Curious people: I'm in Eugene for UO Orientation. Eugenies will get to see a lot more of me in the next four years.

fff I keep being all "I'm gonna go buy bias tape! Bias tape, bias tape~" and then it doesn't happen. I'll do it when I get back. >>
