Yush! Me too. ^_^

They actually have Watchmen action figures at Hot Topic now. Unfortunately no Dr. Manhattan, but they do have Rorschach, Nite Owl, and...the female, lol. Silk something.

It's pretty sweet.

got them online ^.^

and we like tigard better than bridgeport too, bridgeport just gets too crowded >.<

still have to decide where for dinner... probably wanna be at the theater by 10:30 or so to wait in line... so either shari's or ole ole would work, really depends on what everyone else wants ^.^

I know that the theater at which mellonemrys works is hosting bastett as an artist in the hall for the opening. Not sure if they're still recruiting artists, but maybe drop a PM to one of them (or check the_creation_station@yahoogroups.com archives on yahoo) if potentially interested.

I'd suggest Ole Ole, aaand, relatively early on, because you just know there will be a line starting way too soon in the evening.

So, maybe dinner at 9, so we can get to the theater between 10:00 and 10:30?

I'll bring my psp and my camera XD

and if you want I can bring apples to apples. I need to know that one kinda soon so I can bring it back from school.

also ole ole sounds good to me. I like mexican food. You can have a meal for dirt cheap there ;D (price of a soda, and then eat the chips and salsa XD)

haha, great plan, Nichole. The place's prices actually aren't too far from the price of a soda, but for a whole meal (and better than Taco Bell).

And Apples to Apples sounds fun; I've got it here too to if you don't want to bother with bringing it back from school.

I've also got Family Guy trivia, or Scrabble, heh

I'm sure I'll end up getting more than just the chips....but I love chips and salsa XD I also plan on bringing my own candy for the movie ;D

I would say the trivia would be best. The only reason I think trivia would be better is because there is no pieces to lose ;D

And I'll bring apples to apples if you bring the trivia.

Nice. We'll be uber-prepared. ^_^

And we picked up Watchmen the graphic novel today, so we should be nice and caught up to speed by the time the movie comes out.

Oh, and I just remembered I have Cthulhu Munchkin, too! So, I will bring that to play, also.

haha, nice and convenient. Hopefully you like it. I know the main reason I had not read it even though I knew a lot about it was that I couldn't get past the art style. I knew Alan Moore's work and am a huge fan of his "Yuggoth Cultures", but the style in Watchmen is very different. I'm fine with it now, but it scared me off initially. Very classic comic style.

just started reading it today. i had the same problem as rodney, the art style. but, since i know the movie will be awesome, i can look past it, which is normally really hard for me to do. i do like how rorschach is drawn, though ^.^ i have only gotten a few pages in, but it's really good so far. i love when rorchach is randomly eating a can of beans in daniel's kitchen XD

For those of you that are reading this - DO NOT - under any circumstances skip the Excerpts from Behind the Cowl or Takes of The Black Frieghter! These are probably the most important bits in the book.

One of my coworkers was awesome enough to lend it to me. I'm about 3/4 of the way done with it. It's pretty much awesome. Rorschach is pretty much the best character, with his random sugar cube eating ways. Just read a review on the movie and am now even more excited to see it.

General Consenus of reviews is

Movie Is awesome

Movie will make you twitch or gag at some point

The lack of squyid will disturb some hardcore fans, but Snyder did a good job with the ending

Rorschach is bomb diggity for sniggity

Osmandias could have been better

Squid! I can't wait to read and learn about this awesome squiddy-part.

Even if it isn't in the movie, though, I know I won't be disappointed by it. The movie is gonna be too awesome to get let down by.

I guess no one down south has any plans to see this. Unless they just don't use this site as everyone is from up north.

Anyway, I couldn't really do a midnight showing. I will have worked 14 days in a row by then. But I do get off work about 1 hour before show time. However I have to go to the dentist at 9:30am Friday to get the hole in my crown from getting a root canal filled. I hope you asked. lol if you didn't!

Does this mean EoA, that you won't get to meet up with me and my wife Saturday the 7th sometime before the game? I am thinking Powell's and Jake's maybe, and perhaps what? Donuts! Those aren't too far to walk from 10th 11th is it?
Have Fun

@ nikkiolie

The review I read gave it four stars. They said it was awesome, not as good as Dark Knight, but amazing for the "unfilmable" graphic novel.
It's on denofgeek.com. They're an amazingly epic website anyway, so check it out.

Nope, I am still able to meet up with you and your wife. The movie will be Thursday night, so I will definitely still be free on Saturday. ^_^

That's cool. I know nothing about that movie except that it is foreign and won awards or something.

So I decided I am going to make a Rorschach mask for the midnight showing. I'm sure there will be others dressing up, but I still think it would be fun. I won't do the whole costume, though, just the mask. Yay, inkblot face!

Slumdog=Best Picture Oscar! My wife and I saw it. Yeah it was good. I learned a bit more about Indian culture, especially of Mumbai. Although it does a bit of travelogue, and I was guessing if I knew where in India they were at the time. 5 star hotel! lol!

Anyway, anyone can meet up with us who wishes the Saturday after. I just want to have a donut, meet people I know here, visit Portland a bit, and go watch the Blazers with my mom that evening.
Have Fun

And that Slumdog Millionaire does sound pretty interesting. I will probably look into seeing it at some point. I can always go for some eye-opening film about international affairs.

And Watchmen! Woo! We have quite a few of our non-forum friends coming to see it with us Thursday night, so there should be a massive group of us.

just finished reading watchmen tonight. it was good, but imho, i think the movie will be better *hides from avid watchmen comic fans* idk, movie seems way more exciting and quicker paced... the comic jumped around a lot and it seemed to take a long time for things to get rolling in the story. i guess i've just gotten too used to fast-paced story lines >.>

but yay, only a few more days ^.^ i can hardly wait!!

So I just started reading Watchmen tonight and I have to say I am absolutely hooked. I think you said you thought the beginning was slow, right, Kahlan? I actually am really enjoying it. It feels like a great pacing, and I love the dialogue and just the storytelling going on. Right from the beginning there is this great atmosphere of paranoia and imminent trouble. Very strong representation of the notion of Cold War terror and Doomsday clock machinations. I love it.

And Rorschach is awesome, haha.

Oh, and this is really cool too! Apparently, in the works is an animated movie based on a comic book created within the Watchmen universe. It's called Tales of the Black Freighter, and Gerard Butler (300) is doing the voice of the main character. I have yet to reach the point in Watchmen where this comic comes up, but the movie looks fantastic!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/ - It's the trailer called "Tales"

^ yeah, i like it a lot too, i guess i was just rushing a bit to get it done, but it does set a good tone. even if it is a bit on the slow side for me at points, it works for the story. i suppose i was a bit hasty in my comment above, heh. i think i was recalling certain areas of the novel being slower, but most of it is pretty well paced. sorry for my too quick assessment >.<

and that animated movie sounds cool. i can't watch the trailer cause i don't have the latest quicktime >.< but the story it's based on seemed pretty interesting. i think i'd have paid more attention if i wasn't making myself hurry through the book (not that there was any pressure on me to do so, just felt i needed to so others would have ample time to read the copy i got) the  story of the black freighter seemed really brutal and i had been thinking it would be awesome to have it on it's own so i could focus on it. it was hard for me to give it full attention when i wanted to read more about the main story of watchmen, lol (i'm weird)... but that's really exciting about the animated movie, especially since gerard butler is doing the voice of the main character ^.^

the comic does seem a little slow to start out with but I think I may wait to read the rest till after I see the movie. I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time now and I don't want to be disappointed because I read the comic and they left some stuff out. So I plan on waiting.

Ah, well that makes sense. I started reading it already so I don't think I can make myself wait, heh. I am somewhat addicted now, and just my personal preferences, I always like to try to read the material before I see a film, so I am still going to aim to finish it in time.

Also, I am already so impressed with the movie, I really don't think it is possible for me to get disappointed by it, even if there are things missing.

Ummm, I can't remember now, lol. I thought there were more people coming from the forums, but maybe not.

But there are a couple of Kahlan's friends/coworkers coming, and possibly one of my friends from school, and a few other friends from various places. Our friend/Kcon buddy for 3 years running, Ryan, is coming, as well as our other friend Richard. Yeah, just a mishmash of random people who all like Watchmen, lol.

I decided not to make a Rorschach mask because I figured it look kind of silly without the full costume.

SPOILERS!!!

I like it when Rorschach was getting arrested by the police and when he went to prison. Rorschach is such an interesting character!

Ah, I...love...this...movie! It was fantastic! And I do agree, Rorschach is just awesome.

More *SPOILERS*
The end made me very sad, for obvious reasons based on the previous statement. And made me love Rorschach even more.

And, other than that, it is pretty much impossible for me to pick a favorite scene. The entire movie had my eyes glued to the screen.

Okay, the opening scene is forever burned upon my memory. I know I will always rewatch that scene a couple times for every time I watch the film. Just something about it draws me in and keeps me something fierce.

I also love Eddie Blake. The Comedian is another amazing character.

agreed with all the above statements ^.^ rorschach is definitely one of my fave characters. the ending made me love him all the more... *spoiler... maybe?* just all the emotion in his voice at the very end of the movie, ahh it got me... i love things like that...

i can't pick a fave scene either, everything was just fantastic!! i was reading the a&e in the oregonian and they only gave watchmen a b... they suck! lol. they were criticizing some of the music choices and the actors who played adrian and daniel, and the extended sex scene (*spoiler-ish?* which, while awkward, it was also funny and helped to lighten the mood a bit) but i loved everything about the movie and can't wait to see it again ^.^

and i'm super excited to plan out watchmen tattoos with eve >.O

and i think we should have a get-together to watch the tale of the black freighter when it hits stores later this month ^.^

Just because it has been out there for a while doesn't mean everyone has read it or had access to it. People still deserve the chance to experience the film fresh without anything being previously revealed.

And yes, Kahlan and I have both agreed we want to get one of Rorschach's inkblot designs tattooed. ^_^

haha, Midnight showings are good at reuniting the hardcore, heh. Even though I didn't know anyone else there who didn't come with us, it was nice to see so many enthusiasts and people who were just super stoked to see the movie. There was an energy in the theater that I hadn't seen since going to the midnight showing of Star Wars Episode II or Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. ^_^

Just to add a little bit of hype to the Watchmen world, a reminder that The Tales of the Black Freighter will be coming out on DVD at the end of the month! (If you've read Watchmen then you'll remember the little comic-within-a-comic that was a brilliantly gory allegory for the events going on in the real world of Watchmen). And if that doesn't draw you in...the main character looks like Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse.

I think I would rather have the book in my hands than read it on the computer but I don't have any money =/

i'm super excited for that ^.^ i thought the tale of the black freighter was awesome in the book, but i didn't give myself enough time to delve into it much. i am really interested to hear the full story, since it seems you only get bits and pieces in the book. the animation looks great from what i saw in the trailer, and the story is so gory and horrific, i'm excited to see where they go with that >.O plus, you can't beat gerard butler voicing the main character ^.^

let's all meet at icicle inn!

Yeah, in the book you only got the one story called "Marooned", that is the main story that reflects the events of Watchmen, and it is the only one shown in the trailer, so I am not sure if this animated movie will be of all (or at least some) of the episodes from the Tales series, or just "Marooned". Should be amazing either way though.

And I'm interested to see "Under the Hood" also, the book by Hollis Mason (Nite Owl I).

Just saw Watchmen yesterday. It was freaking awesome! Although I am almost done with the book I was still surprised by the amount of nudity and sex there was, but at least the production team didn't shy away from it. Absolutely loved Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach.

I can't wait for the extended cut of the dvd. Supposedly Under the Hood and Tales of the Black Freighter will be edited back into the movie. The movie, last I heard, might be rereleased in the theater later this year with those two stories added back in. Supposedly there are about three or four planned versions of the dvd.

Wow! I had no idea they had plans to re-edit the film, even less of an idea that they were possibly going to put it back in theaters! That's amazing!

And thank you! Someone else who seems to share the same viewpoint I do on the topic of the nudity in the film. ^_^ I was really happy to see a film that embraced the entire human anatomy. They weren't drawing the viewer's attention to any certain parts, but they weren't hiding those parts either. I thought it was brilliant and a great mark of progress for cinema.

See, I think that is a pretty big problem with the modern perspective. We've come to a point where we confuse anatomy and sex. I (as I've said before) like that the film did not shun any given part of the anatomy on Dr. Manhattan. Anatomy in itself is not dirty or explicit...but I'm getting too philosophical, aren't I?
