L is a hard one. Its kinda like golden boy. Maybe if you wore blue (accurate to the cosplay) slacks, or black slacks (accurate to the B/W theme) It would be ok. But honestly if you didnt wear a wig and the face makeup it really wouldnt work as a cosplay. Ive seen some great L cosplays and some "I kinda threw this together and dont look like him at all" ones. lol. Since it is a semi formal dance I would say that slacks and a sweater would be allowed. I think jeans will still be axed.

This dance isn't going to be as formal as we have had in the past. Nice jeans (no rips, please) will be fine.. and as part of an L cosplay, they will be perfect.

Also, keep in mind that even though a character usually dresses casually, doesn't mean that you can't do a 'forced into nice clothes' version. With the distinctive hair / eye makeup and posture of L, he is a good candidate for alternate versions.
