Greetings, my name is Paul(perfer Paru) and I thought I'd reply to this thread before making my own.

Me and a friend of mine are going to hold a room party at this years kumoricon. Still looking for other people to share the room or possablely help out(keeping the room open).

currently chekc in is saturday and check out is monday.

I've done this a few times before, the way it usually works is that aobut noon or so on the first day it opens up, morning and afternoon stuff tends to be more for kid's and later at night may become more mature. it goes late Can't recall past conventions atleast around 11pm i tihnk later. opens up again in the morning, Both me and my friend bring our collection of DVD's incase people want to look at something. We work a list for the whole convention. the last day tends to be request, for as long as we can.
There is some food, But I really don't deal with that. I bring some pop really.

durring course of the convention is a discussion group, like watch a movie and discuss it. Plans for: Beyond the clouds being the movie.

other plans, show casing Tokusetsu("Live action") Sentai shows\movies.

Possably one of the newer episodes of tenchi ova 3.

I'm not sure that my partner is going to register here, but any questions, comments etc I'll relay to him.

He was at the last Kumoricon, and is heading to sakura con.

ah yes forgot about the "video setup". As per the norm hotells don't like people setting up VCR's, dvd players etc. Whats worked in the past is this: the Wall with the cable that normally goes to the TV. that will be pluged into the VCR(mine is broken so details are upto my partner), from there I will take some RCA cables and connect my Panasonic SL-GC10(the "Qube" GC\DVD hybrid), it's all region incase there is a need to show another region DVD. thats about it. No I won't be bring any GC games, etc If people are intrested ask the gaming department. I'm still however learning to make VCD\SVCD and "dvd-r". it's been qouted as working and i've seen both VCD and DVD-r work.

re: tenchi, with the first dvd out before then and with the posability of cathcing up to the peisodes we have previously shown I'll most likely buy and show the comerical DVD.

well as mention for other conventions i've helped and ran room parties. there isn't exactly a specific age limit just a genral guideline. evening is more likely adult tohu notihng hentai. Personally it's more about at what level you yourself are at. We try to include various anime for all different ages but nothing that exactly say's "17+ after this point". So atleast you can stay for some of the time, maybe all the time. for example: tenchi ova 3 we tend to show late evening have you seen any tenchi ova episodes? if so you can stay for that. Also note that it could be more then just violence or sex, do you watch slow anime with very little action? or ones that make you tihnk alot?
Above all else it's the quality we go for, Would Serial Experiment Lain be sometihng you would watch? it's not exactly violent but... We do post on the door watch we are wathcing and whats next, a genrally have a list of what is going to be shown each day.

I'm up for watching anything. I like action and all that, and when I'm up to it, the violence is all right. I'm still working my at being able to watch gore-y stuff, but it's not too bad right now.

I guess I just watch all kinds of anime. Ones that're slow with little action, ones that make me think, the really action-like ones. I'm just well-rounded when it comes to diff. types of stuff I like. I'm going to see if I can stick around, I'll prolly be driving from a friends house to where the Con is at and I'm sure I'll get at least one friend to hang with me at one of the parties.

Oh, and, I think I've heard of Serial Experiment Lain around. What is that about, exactly? I'm kind of interested in it.

Bear with me as it has been years since I've seen it and I only saw the first 2 DVDs. I do plan on watching all of it someday.
It's one of those "makes you think" kind of anime. The story starts off with a girl jumping off a building (First ep. so it isn't a spoiler). Lain, a young, quiet girl, is just starting to get into computers after some of her friends, well, talk her into it I guess is the best way to put it. Also at this time, the dead girl is contacting everyone via email. Lain makes contact with the girl. The dead girl tells Lain she isn't dead but is living basically in the internet or the Wired (Am I right so far?). Lain digs deeper into the Wired and finds out new things about herself and the world around her.

Ack, I feel like that's a horrible description but that's the best I can do from memory on this. Could someone correct me if I'm wrong?

thats the very basics it's goes alot mroe indepth... it really makes you question reality mroe then matrix, dark city etc ever could. see there is also "lain" of the wired. Also brings up "religion" ok gods, creation etc... episode after episode it gets more complex one of the biggest turn off's for people is that they soon have no idea which scene is in which world. I have the collectors box and as stated i bring all my dvd's if there is free time you maybe able to watch some of it. But I know for a fact you won't be able to see it all. FYI: generally we do a few episodes of a serries, or a movie then move on. Again more kid stuff early morning maybe cha cha or Nadja then moving on to other things later in the day, evenings are again more "adult", with a special movie\episode i belive the 2nd day late. this is what I recall from my own memory, my partner in this has been doing it for a long time, if and when he registers here he can explain better. I will have some time for my own programming. Again I really Love Sentai(task force) and will do some of that, I'm also looking to show a few old things and a few favorites a few years ago. depending how things go I'll have extra copies of stuff if people want them, or more information.

for example: last November at this other con I did only a few Sentai episodes I had a folder with like 20 pages, a handy guide for people who are more fimiliar with power rangers to compare some broad points. This time I'm *PLANING* to make maybe 5 copies every sentai episode i show. with another printing of episode discription and so on.

College as you find out isn't all partying with these fun and painful secret society's. muhc like room parties.
I personally WILL not stand sharing a room when someone drinks. room parties all differ from one another. you won't *EVER* see me throwing a frat party. Sometimes people have there own gaming thou I doubt with what they got planed this year people will setup LAN UT games etc. I've even been to other anime room parties at the same convention, they were burning CD's watching and giving away there group fandub and i think had a DDR going as well.

What you can expect: a few episodes of tv serries, Notihng on TV, and more geared for unlicensed\unrelesed stuff. a movie with discusion. for example i said lain before, while that won't be it it would make for a good chat about what qualifies for being the normal world and "the wired". some food(I don't deal with the food stuff)

As for being the youngest, Caroline, if it's any consolation to you we're trying to get my lil' 10 year old nephew to come to Kcon too, plus we had 12 and 13 year olds last year and even a couple young kids. So, I'm sure you won't literally be the very youngest... and, you're making lots of friends here, ne? So, you shouldn't have a problem!

Speaking of room parties... yeah. Might have one (hosting it as myself the person, not my role in con), but it would be invite only, and 18+, and only after con shuts down for the night, er, morning, natch. >_> <_<

Please note that (if it goes) it will be 18+ only because it will be themed after: a series of M-rated Japanese video games and/or a Japanese film that would be R or NC-17 by US standards. NOT because anyone would be doing anything *cough* funky-nasty in the room. I'm just not going to restrict discussion of some of the very adult thematic elements, and may want to show the director's cut (which is hard to find and has extra scenes) of the very violent movie. If I bother to do it, I plan to transform the entire room for this purpose, to make it fit the theme of the night. Snacks and drinks that we make available would also fit the theme. No alcohol would be served.

I did the school magic games as well, got out of it around my sophmore year. Got back in to it some years later at a card shop in Roseburg, then quit playing when I moved to Eugene. I've still got my cards though, long live Sorceress Queen, Clone and Counter Spell! ^_^ I should put together a deck again and bring it with me... black and blue or pure green? hmm...

Please note that (if it goes) it will be 18+ only because it will be themed after: a series of M-rated Japanese video games and/or a Japanese film that would be R or NC-17 by US standards. NOT because anyone would be doing anything *cough* funky-nasty in the room. I'm just not going to restrict discussion of some of the very adult thematic elements, and may want to show the director's cut (which is hard to find and has extra scenes) of the very violent movie. If I bother to do it, I plan to transform the entire room for this purpose, to make it fit the theme of the night. Snacks and drinks that we make available would also fit the theme. No alcohol would be served.

Out of a curiousity, what series did you have in mind? Hard to find with extra scenes tends to catch my attention.

The movie and video game series are separate things. We will either do one night for the game series, and one night for the film, or a combo, but I prefer to keep them separate, they are different fandoms. The video game series = Silent Hill. The film = Battle Royale (the first, original movie, for which the director's cut has added scenes). They are two of my several niche fandom obsessions and I have cosplay from each.

Oddly enough I own Silent Hill 1 & 2 but I've yet to play much in to either of them ... I am slacking on my video games. Battle Royale I've never seen... well I don't think I have anyways, I'm horrible with titles

As for cosplay I'm currently sporting a beard, but I'm going to shave it. I'd like to cosplay someone with funky sideburns... maybe a beareded charecture but since it's summer I'd like to go sideburns. Any suggestions?

yes room parties are the best, if you have good music of course. if anyone is having any room parties pm me cuz me and my friend really know how to make people have fun. its not drugs or drinking, thats just gross!!

YAY!!! SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH NO DRUGS OR DRINKING ^o^!!! you know how rare that is nowadays, i mean sure, i drink, i just dont want to abuse the alcohol and get drunk ^_^
