What was your first anime?
« on: February 19, 2005, 08:36:38 pm »
Ehehh. I know that's like so annoying. But I was just wondering what everyone's first, or for that matter, favorite Anime is (Manga too.)
My first Anime was My Neighbor Totoro. -points to logo- ^_^-
But I was about 3... I didn't know what anime was, so I'll say that Pokemon was my real first anime, beacue then I knew what the word ment.
My favorite...
I really liked GTO. I've never read the manga, but I watched the Anime, and I found it very entertaining.
My first Manga I bought was in 7th grade (Which was last year)... I belive it was FLCL. Or Gatekeepers. I've got about 50 Manga now... -__-; Which still isn't really that many. And my favorite Manga is... Chobits.
I love it. I'm cosplaying as Yuzuki (Minoru's persocom sister). I found the ending kinda... eh... But I still love it. It was the first Manga series that I acctualy completed too.

Very first would be either Sailor Moon or Dragonball.  Dun remember which, just remember they came up super early in the morning, saw one episode, and then forgot about them.  Ranma 1/2 is what actually got me into the anime as I remember reading a brief comic of it in Nintendo Power Magzine.

Favorite Manga: Love Hina.  I, without a doubt, love that manga above all others.
Favorite Manga-ka: Akamatsu Ken.  Creator of Love Hina and Mahou Sensei Negima.

My first Anime: ... It was either Sailor Moon, Akira, or Ranma.
Favorite Anime: Again a toughy.  I would have to say it's either "Nadesico" or "Kare Kanojo no Jijou".

I'd have to say that my first anime and manga was Doremon considering that I have some manga and a video of the series from when I was five. Fun times. Oh, I also have a music video with scenes from a series called Kiba: The White Tiger as well. Or, I think that's the series' name. o_O

My first anime seen on T.V. was either Sailor Moon or DBZ though I'm leaning more towards Sailor Moon since I can recall that one more often in my childhood. The first manga that I got translated in English was... Inu Yasha? Can't really recall that one.

Doremon still has a very special place in my heart though. I really need to watch that video again, even though its pretty ancient. XD *Hugs her Doremon stuffy*

When I was little I always wanted a Doreamon of my own, and telling myself in the future, when they finally invent Doreamon, send one back in time for me, hehe, wasn't I dorky, but it was good fun^^

I found an old pencil box I used when I was in elementary school, I got Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon stickers all over it :D

Heh, strange...my friend's and I were talking about this at the the party we had the other day. Mine would have to be Sailor Moon back when I went to say...5th or 6th grade, woow that was a while ago. The first anime I really got into when I new what anime really was though were DBZ and Gundam Wing back on the great adult swim. Good times they were ^_^. Oh, and as for my first manga...that'd prolly be evangelion, one of my most favorite and first viewed animes...strange that one type of program can bring such memories O_o

I can't remember what my first was for certain, but it was either Speed Racer or Star Blazers, followed soon after by Robotech.  Of course, I had no idea they were Japanese until much later.  I just knew they were way cooler than the other cartoons.

there was also this other one, when the little mermaid was out on video and uber popular, my first grade class was having a end of the school year party and the teacher thought she rented the disny version but it was an anime movie that (if i remeber corcetly) the mermaid died instead of killing the human she loved to save her life, i don't remeber the name tho, and come to think of it didn't the old version of the swan princess have japanese graphics the one where it ends with a sword in a heart of flowers was all that was left

My first was Speed Racer. The channel with Star Blazers didn't come in where we lived.  At that age I didn't know it was Japanese or that it had been dubbed over from dialogue and body language that MIGHT have made sense. So I thought it odd that, for example, the guy would drive his car tumbling off a cliff, hit the ground and say "Awwwwww!" I remember wondering -WHY- they didn't say something more realistic, like "Ouch" or "Oh @#$%@!!! I just drove off a cliff!!" The bad dubs** bugged me more and more (yet I didn't know why) and eventually I came to dislike the show. For the rest of my childhood it was Hanna Barbera, WB, Disney, and Sid & Marty Croft stuff (cartoons and live action, but there wasn't any anime on TV.

We also used to visit one side of my family who lived in Quebec, and TV shows were often a decade older up there (along with other cultural trends) so I got to see Astro Boy once or twice in black and white, and some cheezy live-action tokusatsu stuff - it could have been Voltron or Ultraman - all I remember was that it looked really hokey. One Halloween I tried to make a tokusatsu-like costume. I used flexible metal dryer hose because my legs were still small enough to fit inside them.

Then I 'rediscovered' anime in the early 90's while over in Japan. We rented VHS tapes of Lodoss Wars. I consider that my first introduction to 'real' (as in non-cheezy) anime.

I was around nine or ten when I first saw anime. A Japanese family moved in next door, and I became friends with their children. The son was around my age, and the daughter was a couple of years older. They had some DBZ stuff on tape, so the first thing I ever saw was a raw DBZ movie. They had to pause it frequantly to tell me what was going on. At that age I really didn't care too much about the plot, but I just knew it was interesting.

After they moved a few months later (I was told their Dad had worked for an upstart Japanese company, whos American branch failed, and he got transfered back), I never forgot them or Anime. At that point I didn't see much of anime for around a year. Then I got some Robotech tapes for my Birthday from my Uncle.

It'd be a couple more years until I ran into DB again, this time the first series, in its initial TV run, back to back with Sailor Moon, which I admit is one of my favorite series (Yes, a man admits it, I also like pink, SO THERE! :D).

After that I found the Sci-Fi channel showing anime movies for a week on some sort of special promotion thing hosted by a chick in Cosplay of some sort. Though, at that time, I didn't know what Cosplay was. During this, I saw Akira and Galaxy Express. I was happy to see more Anime.

After that, I had my goal to find more. By this time by Robotech tapes had long since burnt up, I watched them too much. I'd also been in to Comic Books for along time, and I decided to give them up, and focus on Anime. Later I found out about Manga too, so Anime and Manga became my new, permanant, hobby.

In the years that followed I kept watching Sci-Fi channel on Saturdays, they shown Anime movies. Here is where I first saw Tenchi Muyo, which is still one of my favorites. I immediatly fell in love with how cute Ryo-Ohki was, and actually asked my Dad if I could attempt to mate a Cat and Rabbit (I'll leave out the weird looks he gave me for the months to follow).

After Sci-Fi stopped showing stuff, my only way of getting anime was to buy it. I was a young teenager with no job and a poor allowence. So, I made a deal with my folks to use my allowence to pay for more Cable, giving me access to Toonami. I eventually got a income and started buying DVDs. The era of Toonami has long since passed its prime.

As I sit here, having been an Otaku for a long 11 years, I must admit, it has its ups and downs, but I don't think there are ANY better people in the world than fellow Otaku.

Last year was my first con, Kumoricon 04. It didn't matter that I didn't know anybody, everyone just GETS ALONG, because we all have the same interests. I don't honestly think theres a better time than sitting back with some friends, talking about some anime and manga, or watching/reading it together.

I love being an Otaku, even if it is expensive alot of the time. :D

Wow, did I ramble on or what? LOL. :D

Gatekeepers, watched while on vacation in the Philippines.  Way before that, Starblazers (Yamato).
I guess Gatekeepers is my 'revival' anime that got me back into the anime.  Haven't looked back yet.

My first anime ever was Sailor Moon. I saw it when I was ten, and instantly became hooked. I thought that Makoto was the coolest girl ever. Then, I saw the S season.... Then I was introduced to the Japanese version. It kicks serious ass!!!! ^_^ Then, I meet the Starlights and fell in love for ever...

Yes, Sailor Moon is my favorite anime. It's the main thing that I write.

First anime? Sailor Moon, 8th grade, and my life has been changed ever since.

Even though I long ago got over the fluffy-girlieness of that show, it's still the show that taught me how to draw anime so it has a fond spot in my heart.

And of course, Sailor Saturn frikkin' ROCKS.

Mine was Gigantor!  I loved that show and wanted a Robot so much!

What I really liked about it was that the announcer said the episode title at the beginning of each episode (I was about 3 and couldn't read very much yet).

Then, my heart belonged to Marine Boy.  I don't remember very much about the show, but my mom insists he was my first love.

Then, I wanted to be Trixie!  She got to hang out with Speed!

I also liked a show called Doo Doo The Kid from Outer Space (pronouced) like Doe, Doe.  Every thought it was from Japan, but it was from Europe so it doesn't really count, but I thought it was interesting.

Then all that good stuff disappeared.  Years went by, but then after school each day (high school), I became a closet fan of Battle of the Planets!  My younger sister was too. We both wanted to be Princess.

I could tell the rest of the typical story with discovering Ranma, Tenchi and Sailor Moon in the 90s,  but I thought telling the earlier part was more interesting and kind of unique.

Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers)  Then life went on.

Years, and a second childhood later, Gatekeepers.
