Cosplay Picnic Anyone?

Ok so this is the first cosplay picnic I've planned so bear with me and throw in ideas.  The dates can be from De. 27th 2008 to Jan 3rd 2009.  And I was thinking about 1 ish at Lents Park in SE Portland?  Sound good?  Please lemme know!

too cold for a picnic. picnics aren't usually until spring or summer vacation. and right now a lot of people are probably busy through those times since it's the holiday season. I'm not trying to rain down on your parade, I really do love cosplay picnics but it's too soon to have one now. the location seems like a pretty good place though.

Bullwinkles! Has laser tag, karts and an arcade, and yes the restaurant. That's where our picnic should be. The valentines day event is good, but not exactly a picnic. And down the way is Fry's electronics with anime DVDs and some manga.

Even forget how old we are, or how young we are. The week after on V day we can cry all we want at the clubs and high school dances. But the week before, we will party! If anyone is Link on that day, they should bring a lot of heart pieces to share with everyone.

I don't think anyone is going to be planing something that soon. Like some have said there is too many events too close together and it is getting a little heck tick. I know that I am going to be......Jan 19th is a Monday......not many people are going to be able to make that. I'm going to be in Corvallis then and it's too close to mew con. After Mew con I think I will be ready for a break.

Wrong! Can you believe the NOOB of some people? I don't own the Star Ocean series to know or the money to buy the games. I really don't want to either. I'm lost back in the days of Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Trigun, and a little Naruto. I don't want to watch or read any new series because I want to make my own finally.
Which leads me to my most important question ever...

Also I try not to burn for a long 3 months only on a cosplay, even though I know in 3 months is Sakuracon. Because a) I don't have friends with supplies or any sewing skill whatsoever, b) I probably won't win the great contest anyway because c) again it will be something from the past, useless and uncool. Just a relic of the great ones that were. So I'm sorry for mistaking characters. I'm just an old stubborn goat. Too stubborn to let go of the old favorites to move on to the "next big thing" and older than most everyone else here...most.

Hm.. I'm a fan of all those Anime's, too. But I also know the up to date stuff, merely because I like to expand. Being narrowed to only a few things narrows your knowledge about other Anime's and Video games. Why stunt your knowledge on something you're passionate about simply because you like older things? That doesn't mean you can no longer like them.

Okay code geass has a gundam feel to it, so I "might" watch it a little more often than once a week or month. I just rather watch it when episode 1 comes around again. Otherwise they move on to season 2 and I don't know a thing about what happened before. Same goes for Bleach. But Death Note (I'm only covering the ones that show up on adult swim because those are all I can get) just doesn't seem as exciting to watch. It's hard to want to watch new stuff because I'm trying to make one that can beat them all, or most. Why admire what I'm going to be a rival of someday? And, I'm not a high-level otaku who can go to every con within reach, has money or concentrates all that I have into buying out Barnes & Noble for every manga they have, or gamestop for every anime video game. All I'd be doing is torturing myself while my mind is crying out "why isn't mine out yet?!"
I don't draw as well as I want to, and I don't believe that a manga creator has to be a one-man army. But I also have no one else that has time or talent to want to work with me.

And Star Ocean has an amazing battle system and concept. The story is good for a while. You call me a Noob but in reality you are, you are only limiting yourself to what you feel comfortable with. You are not venturing out to see new things or try news things. In these days you really don't need money to watch new anime or even play games. The internet is an amazing thing my friend.

Also if you want to make an anime/manga you will need to watch a lot of stuff to see what was good about it and what was bad to make yours even better. Also if you don't watch a lot you may end up with a story very similar to another anime but maybe not as good so people wont be interested.

I agree with nik and sayda.  you need to open your mind and explore what's out there.

and as for sewing, you can learn.  it's pretty easy.  i just learned.  you need to make mistakes, that way you know how to improve.  if you don't try something new, youre always thinking that you cannot learn it.  trust me, been there, done that, still do sometimes.

I draw yes, but it has taken years of practice and some art classes to help me out.  i also get the how to draw books.  those help a lot.

I know places online where I can find free anime to watch and free manga to read.  if you wish to expand your knowledge of what's out there so you can become this sccessful manga creator that you wish to be, please feel free to contact me.

So how much more do I have to study other series before I can launch my own finally?? I really don't want to set mine in motion when I'm 30-50 years old. Oh yeah, my dying wish, to see the first episode of my own series on screen after years of watching others go so well. Every new series I finally decide to watch or read, just gets me more jealous and more impatient to share mine, which is nothing like any others I've seen before. Maybe some inspirations here and there, but what more is there to learn? If I learn any more I WILL end up copying parts that have already been covered and get the creators at my doorstep with torches and pitchforks.

Seeing how a lot of the girls on this forum are underage if a girl was to host it I would think that guys would be able to go for a little while but might not be able to stay the night. Also underage kids might not be able to stay the night if their parents know that someone of the opposite sex will be there, especially if they are over 18.

I figured you would already know that guys wouldn't be able to sleep over at an underage girls house. I mean it is common knowledge. You have already gone through that stage in your life and where you ever allowed to stay at a girl’s house when you were between the ages of 12 to 18? My guesses is no. My parents never allowed it and if I was under age there is no way in HELL that they would let a guy who is over 18 stay the night.

Manga meetup/sleepover sounds awesome. I have a small bookshelf full of manga and another pile of it in my room... Though that would be impossible to transport it all. o.o Maybe you should have a list of who is bringing what, if this ends up happening.

Honestly, the sleepover sounds like the best idea. Just because a general meetup would end up being too big, and there would be (way) higher chances of the manga getting mistreated or stolen. Also, naturally everyone should bring some manga to share, unless due to unfortunate circumstances they don't/can't own any. Since they wouldn't be able to some to the sleepover, people of the male gender could set up their own thing.

This could get tricky, so maybe you guys (er, girls) might want to have this just be between you two.

The idea of this manga sleepover came up a little bit randomly, and was no more than an idea - not a set plan or anything.

Unfortunately, gender does divide things in this world. Of course there would be problems with older males staying over with younger girls. Even divided. You may not be the kind of guy that would try anything of the bad sort, but we don't actually know you, and precautions need to be taken with everyone or some creep may slip through and it's all for naught. As a big meetup with everyone, this event wouldn't work for the reasons I listed before. Way too risky, enough that I don't think people would be willing to bring their manga to that because it could get all sorts of messy. Of course not everybody is inconsiderate or a thief, like not all older guys will sexually harass girls, but precautions need to be taken. Also, it would have to be in an enclosed space and run like a manga library at cons which tends to be a bit complicated and plus we'd have to find a meeting space to have it at. The only way I see this working is as a sleepover with girls only. The manga will be easier to keep track of and the atmosphere comfier.

I'm not too keen on the camping manga sleepover unless it is in someone's backyard.

So what is the reason behind the sudden spawning of two picnics and two V day meetups? Is it just people unable to come to one that can go to the other?

I was planing on doing a picnic some time in the spring and just now got around to it. I am the one that normally plans the picnic but others want to too so that is the reason.

And let's say I want to do one. I'll have to put mine way out in summer just to avoid competing with events everyone else is running. Apparently my artist meet flopped and died. And everyone else is vying for February and March, while April most will be concentrating on Sakuracon, including me.

and Turbo have you ever thought about planing your event in June? The reason I have so many people come to mine is because I give them time to plan for it. So if you want to plan something plan it in advance not two weeks before >_>

Waterfront Park fountain, bring your suit and walk through it? Just like I did with Trunks and his "water jutsu power up" moment. Usually it's good to plan things at least a month ahead, then people can anticipate it and plan other things around it.

I think you should re-read the quote you were talking about here, or consider that you post late also sometimes, not just me. I was thinking out loud just then, about possibilities for an event. I do know that my after-MEWcon event didn't light up with posts and people reading it until AFTER MEWcon. I'm just saying that something this far away might drift that far down because everyone's discussing the stuff happening before then, but my worry about it is minimal.

I am looking at an event in June. Someone already called July, so I'm not worried. But I'm not going to plan one any sooner because it might land on the same day as someone else's. And I don't want to go and have some silly war of two people advertising their events on the same weekend. I know what I need to know now, but additional drama, tension, and super saiyan-ness isn't going to help.
