I sat in Powell's for a long time reading it, I'll probably go back again to continue.

I thought maybe you were talking about this book, at first. http://powells.com/biblio/71-9780312373511-0

I first read it as a kid, or my mom read it to me. I will have to look at the remainder of the novels, I didn't realize until just now there were 4 more.
Have Fun

I LOVE A Wrinkle In Time! It really makes young minds thing about deep things. I read it in school in 4th grade, It is among one of my favorite books of all time for how much it made me think about the universe.

I didn't really care much for A Wrinkle in Time.  I did like how they explained some of the scientific concepts in the storyline, such as bending space.  It not only made kids think, but it also explained "difficult" concepts on a level that most could understand.

i just hated the characters... if it could somehow be the same kind of book, minus the characters it would be awesome!

I think that's why I didn't care for it much, as well.  I think it may have been when I read the story, I understood the majority of the concepts that they were talking about and felt like reading it was a waste of my time.  (I grew up to appreciate it later).
