Maid Squad 2009
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:56:11 pm »
Hello~

I have decided to start a 2009 thread because two people already have contacted me about Maid Squad for next year.

The general guidelines to be a maid are:

1. The costume can be any color, not like last time where it was only black or white. While on duty, if you have a weapon it is going to have to be left in your room or at the con office.

2. Must be family appropriate i.e. the hand rule for skirt length.

3. You must attend a yojimbo training session (which will start when the con is closer). Technically, we are the cuter yojimbo, where our uniform is maid and theirs is a red haori. Training sessions usually are at the general meetings.

4. If you could, please send me a photo/sketch of your costume. Or just tell me who you are going to be.

5. If you are a guy that is going to dress up as a butler, it must be extremely well designed and classy.

The type of duties that you can be assigned are:
-Holding a place in line for up to 5 minutes for someone to go to the bathroom
-Handing out water
-Keeping the line straight
-Finding disabled people and moving to the front of the line. Currently the first 3-4 seats are reserved for the disabled, VIPs and staff. When handling a disabled that has a large group of friends, you can sit them within the 5-10 first rows. Remember, please also have respect for the people that have been waiting first in line when placing the disabled. Also the disabled need to be placed on the outer edges of the rows towards the doors, as to not obstruct the entering/leaving con goers.
-A couple of you will be holding signs at the entrance directly where the VIPs need to go.
-Walking VIPs to and fro from events and sitting with them.
-When registration closes, one maid will have to stand at the end of line and make sure no one else get in line.
-During registration, maids are going to be also handing out the forms and pens so they can be ready when they get to the counter.
-You should know the layout of the con, so if anyone has a question/problem you can direct them. Most importantly, the restrooms, con office, lost and found, registration, and the info desk.

So please sign up. Thanks.
~Alex

Oh I forgot but if you want to help out please reply with:
- Name
- Maid or Bulter, and description/image/url of outfit
- What times you can work.  (A schedule won't be up until close to con)
- Were you a maid last year? If you were and have any helpful criticism, please describe.

These are some of the events that I can think of off-hand:
Cosplay Contest
Cosplay Chess
AMV Contest (Ballot Picking Up)
Masquerade Dress Code Checker
Concerts
Sake Tasting (21+ only)
Always Registration in mornings

Also, I'm not quite sure on this. But do we still need to pay the 30-35- or 40 to get into the con or do we have a reduced rate? Or none at all? I've not been sure about this so plz respond soon

I just wanted to note, very belatedly, that I'm working on finding some other ways to offer benefits to Maid Squad volunteers, even if you don't get a free badge. :)

These (TENTATIVELY!) include:
- Maid Squad pizza party on the eve prior to the con
- Special room at the hotel for Maid Squad members to hang out in / change clothes in / leave their bags / etc (note that this would NOT be a room for maids to spend the night in)
- Possibly some free anime/manga-related goodies, depending on what I can pull together. :)

Let me reiterate that these are TENTATIVE things I'm looking at doing, not definite, so if one or more of them doesn't happen, don't complain that I didn't warn you! That said, I'm about 95% confident I'll be able to do at LEAST one of 'em. :D

So keep on signing up!

- Maid: Meylin from Kuroshitsuji http://media.photobucket.com/image/kuroshitsuji%20maid%20meilin/thychi/maylene.jpg
- What times you can work-  Anytime right now, but is subject to change depending on what events i will participate in.
- Were you a maid last year? Yeah!! puru, it was fun. as for what can be improved upon... knowing fellow maids/butlers so as not to confuse with the random maid/butler cosplayer and having some kind of real central hub for us to go to when we are utterly confused and need info, as well as regrouping/assigning jobs/short meetings... a little special place for dumping excess goodies/junk from our non-volunteering excursions when going on shift would be a plus too (cause sometimes, going back to the room is too time consuming... especially with elevator lines or traffic if staying at different hotel)

I would but I think I'm already doing too much.
but if I can figure it out I so will.

Name- Katie Sargent
Maid- http://www.salesmanb2b.com/attachment/product/1242211335.jpg with white tights underneath.
What times- I'll post this later, once I figure out when all of the other things I'm doing are.
Were you a maid last year- nope

that maid skirt is much shorter than what I thought.
I'm going to go with this one:
http://www.salesmanb2b.com/attachment/product/1226037138.jpg

I bet I could work at the registration booth every morning, because I get up WAY early anyways, and I think that actually being productive in the morning would be nice.

I am going to be 14 then, so can I be a maid?

I must ask... Would it be alright for males to be maids? And females to be butlers? As long as they took their job and their outfits seriously?

Hello~

So these are the direct words from the Director of Ops:

"There is no age requirement to be a volunteer. The only requiremnt is that you comply with normal con policy, ie if you young enough that you have to have parent supervision to be moving around the con then they also have to be with you while you volunteer."

YAY!

I just wanted to add that any maid that helps out at any of the pre-listed events receives priority seating.

This year I also have nice little "thank you" bags and new maid buttons.

I will also be buying a couple of spare maid aprons. So if you have a gothic/lolita dress (not to say that all loli/goths are trying to be maids!!! I do not want to insult anyone, just trying to get as many helping hands!) I can lend a spare apron! I myself have an extra maid costume that I lent a girl last year; so if you would like to help and dont have a costume, I have one!

Right now we will be holding the final 3 training sessions during the last 2 meetings and the night before the convention.

The Yojimbo training manual is available to be viewed in the staff section of the website if you have access.

Please note that we are still working on the manual so some policies are apt to change.

I may be available to help again this year, and I have a new maid costume to show off...
I have to check with my panel scheduling, and see if it will coincide with Saturday morning and the opening ceremonies. That way I wouldn't have to change from one costume to the maid one--I would just wear the maid one.

last year i was called in as a maid when the person in charge didn't have anyone to do the job.  i was never official or anything, i got asked when i went to the booth to ask a question.  i would do pre registration no mornings, you don't want to see me early.  i am 22 so i could do the adult venues.  i don't have a clear grasp of all thats going on at the con, but i would love to be involved with something.  i would attach the photo but i don't know how.  i'll add it to my profile and see if we can go from there.

I just wanted to say that participating in the maid squad was a great experience. The other maids were friendly and fun to be around, and Alex did a great job at trying to organize everything. I know it's a hard job and I know took up a lot of her time.  The sake tasting panel was a lot of fun, and I wish I could have attended the charity auction but I was unable to. Overall it was a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again next year, if they'd have me back that is. Thanks again you guys for putting up with me.

I would also like to comment, that a friend and I plan on joining you for the 2010 maid squad.

<3 Hello my name is Regina
<3 My maid outfit is the one shown below. I only have this costume. I wore it for halloween! recycle & reuse! I hope it is okay. I'm thinking of wearing sheer black stockings with that or some white ones. Something to cover my epidermis.. O-o wuh? I'm also thinking of wearing my bunny jacket with that outfit too
<3 I would be requesting those days off from work so I can go to Kumoricon worry-free of work. So I am free any time.. however, I'm signing up to be part of the Ops staff.. so depending on that.
<3 I was never a maid but would like to be. I think it would be fun to parade around a maid outfit and helping others!

^that isnt me! lol
