a sweater for your playstation controller.
« on: January 18, 2005, 12:26:38 pm »
So, this all started when my wife started to learn how to knit and I decided to try to learn as well.  It didn't work out so well with me and knitting  , but I often made the joke that if I ever learned to knit that I would make a sweater for my PSone controller. Well this weekend my wife was waaaay too bored and she made me one.

I figure that if enough people show interest, I think I could get her to knit more and I'll sell them at my group's monthly LANime parties.  Let me know if anyone is interested...

Check it out.

Thoes are so cute! I don't have a ps1, but if I did that would be awesome! Your fingers wouldn't get so sweaty and you wouldn't slide off the buttons!

My brother (the one you know) wants to know how much your wife is asking for the controller covers. He thinks they are really neat! ^_^

They will be $5.  :D
Quite a few people here and on other forums I frequent have shown interest so I am going to step up the production!!  My wife is more than happy to knit up a bunch of them.  she said she can do about one a day and we are going to go get some more yarn in different colours on saturday.  I'll bring a nice variety to the LANime party in Feb and I'll bring them to the regular meetup as well (Feb 10th)

If your brother is lucky, he just might win one at the party too...

I'd totally dig one of those for my friend's house, their controllers get in touch with their kid and their cats and their grubbier friends and I have to actually scrape the gunk off them.

I'd love to have a controller cozy to keep my hands clean!

That's...wow. You know, I can't really say I've ever wanted a sweater on my controller...but all of the sudden, I'd be willing to get one*or two*.  Great idea on making em, definatly original, and useful ^_^

this may seem really lame, but pattent that thing. Seriously, cuz that's some bank right there, if nothing else and people liked the idea, then you could sell said patent to plastation and make a lot of money right there.

Just my thoughts,
oh, and I would be down for one or two of those..

You know my dad called me up and told me the same thing.  At first I just blew it off, but the more I think about it I think I should do something but, we'll see.  Apparently I have a cousin or something who is a patent attourney.

Also, today my wife got some more yarn: gray, green, and blue.  So we now have those colors in addition to red and camoflauge.  In like 3 weeks we'll have a bunch ready.

I'll be sure to post more pics of the other versions when they are done.

Haha... that's pretty amusing.  The only thing I'm concerned about is whether the bits that go around the analog sticks interfere with their use.  Have you tested that?

$5 is el cheapo... if you're selling them at a convention or whatever that I attend, I'll certainly buy one for kicks. ;)

We made one that was a *little* tight, but it didn't seem to interfere with the movement that much.  But, that is something my wife noticed when she knitted that particular one.  We done have 4 done so far, I already sold one to a guy in Canada, and I should have 10 ready by next Saturday in time for the big party here in Salem. Click here for more info on that :D

and here is a pic of a 'camoflauge' one (think metal gear):

Do those get in the way of the functionality of the analog? If not, then those seem really cool.

yeah, they are quite different.  The Xbox controller just isn't shaped the right way for something to be slipped around it without compromising the funtionality of the controller.  The PS controller is nice and symetrical and the shoulder buttons with the analog sticks are perfect for hooking stuff around.  So, yeah, after that long explanation   we are just playstation exclusive until we figure out another design...

I sent an email with a pic of the sweater to EGM and they printed it in their letters section!!!  Pretty sweet.

ok, I am working on getting some purple yarn.  I should have some purple yarn this week.  We also got some pink yarn and I'll have mrs. rarnom make a pink one too.

I will have some sweaters with me on Saturday at the BIG party in Salem.  I have one of each of the following colors:
red
green
blue
gray
camoflauge
and I should have a purple and pink one as well.

I can have more made if enough people PM or email me with 'I will buy one' type requests.  Remember they are only $5 so it is quite a deal. 8)

Well, they are available to anyone who can get me the money...

The first one I sold was to a guy in Canada.  He sent me an international money order and I mailed the sweater to him.

Shipping for one sweater is only $1.

If people want to buy multiple sweaters then I'd have to go to the post office and weigh the package and figure it out, but it wouldn't be much more.  They are really light and fit nicely into a half size manilla envelope.

So, if you really do want one and you can send me a money order, go ahead and PM me and we can set something up.

Yeah, right after my wife knitted the first one I took a pic and wrote an email to them.

My friend who has a subscription called me and told me my letter and pic is in letters section of the newest issue.  I don't think it is on the newsstands yet, but I'll be grabbing a copy as soon as it's available.

OK, here are some more pics of the newest colors and designs:

RED

PURPLE

PINK

GREEN

GRAY

CAMOFLAUGE

BLUE

So, I already have one person who is getting a purple one but I can have more of any color made.  And of course we can also get more colors if people have a certain color they want.

I will have these at the big Salem party on Saturday.

I am also more than willing to mail sweaters to people if they send me a money order for $6 per sweater.  (1$ for shipping)
Please PM or email me if you are interested, or if you want to request a certain color or whatever...
