2009 Nominations for Staff Elected Executives
« on: September 03, 2008, 09:56:01 pm »
Please excuse any spelling errors. If you see them, please correct me on them. I'll try to get them fixed.

If any candidate wishes to change their "Accept, Decline, Defer" they will need to pm me through the forums. Please do not post the change to the forum thread. There are a couple that I heard through others they changed their status, but I really need to hear it from them, not from someone else.

Any nominations that people wish to give can be done here, but please, if you are seconding a nomination, say which one you are seconding rather than just saying "second!" I guess quoting works as well. Nominations are listed alphabetically my last name, NOT by nomination order. Nicknames are listed for those that are sometimes better known than the person's real name.

Also, most "defers" listed right now are for people that were not present. This list will hopefully change rather quickly to "accept" or "decline".

President/Chair
Michael Andrews - Accept
Dawn Hewitt - Decline
Valerie "Vallie" Munkres - Accept
Robert "Waffles" Plusko - Accept

Director of Operations
Michael Andrews - Decline (on forums on 9/21/08)

Steve McCalister - Defer
David McCarley - Decline (via email 9/22/08)
Valerie "Vallie" Munkres - Accept
Rob "Waffles" Plusko - Decline (via PM on 9/13/08)
Jess Shelton - Accept (via email 9/11/08)
Robert Trotter - Accept (via PM on 9/3/08)
Bronwyn "Brownie" Williams - Decline (via forums on 9/30/08)

Director of Programming
Jaki Hunt - Accept
Gina Stauber - Decline (Nominated via forums, 9/4/08) (Declined via PM on 9/16/08)

Director of Publicity
Kristin "Kri" Bartholomew - Defer
Tom "TomtheFanBoy" Munkres - Decline
Jeff Tyrrill - Accept
Cassie Richoux - Defer

Director of Relations

oh, btw... when nominating someone... I need their full, real, name (and nickname if it's better known than their real name...). Preferably spelled correctly. =P

And yes, I did delete a couple posts at the request of the poster(s)... mistakes happen.

Stupid question (I didn't make it to Rant n' Rave where it was most likely announced) but when and where is the elections meeting? I just want to know so I know to ask for the time off from work.

Where is the meeting?

It should be at the new hotel.  We are in the process of securing a room.

OK, so since we have only two positions with a variety nominees who have Accepted I have a question about deferrals. The people that have deferred can change their status at any time, correct?

Even if people decide to accept nominations, the big election this year is Ops so I'm going to make a new thread for us to discuss Operations without distracting from the official record here.

You can change your status all you want. You can defer, then accept, then decline, then reaccept, etc etc.

These are my thoughts and I share them out loud because well I like to be objective and give food for thought.  I think all of these people are great personally but popularity contest are for high school and presidential debates.  Taking a long hard look at who would rise to challenges and fight the good fight is hard and personal feelings cannot get in the way of making the con great for all who staff, volunteer, and attend.

Operations:  I am going to say No Mike because I honestly think he would be great in publicity, Kenton would be great as head of maids/butlers, Beau I would like to see in a position like Yojimbo 1 first, Jaki similar reasons I would give for Brownie she needs time off and I think she could be great for maid squad instead, Vallie for sure because I just see her more as a volunteer head to me, Waffles I would like to see him take on the role of Yojimbo 1 to allow him to grow.  Robert was a really great guy but I would like to see him do one more year as grunt staff and Brownie hell no she needs more of a break besides now she has a sword.  Megan and Shelden would be my choices but I would say Megan because of how much grunt work and dedication I have seen from her for Yojimbo team.

this is my first review and I will review others and share my thoughts the other selections shortly.

I would like to second Waffles for chair.

And I would support Kenton or Jess for Ops, Megan has done a lot of grunt work yes and she is VERY dedicated to the con but Ops directors needs to keep a cool head, needs a certain amount of tact on sensitive issues and not take things personally and she is really really NOT good at that, she is really good at being aggressive enough to make people do as they should which is a great quality for a high ranking yojimbo but not a good quality in an ops director and her temper is shorter than Brownie's.

okay people, just to be clear here... this isn't a "I don't think this person would be good" thread... this is purely for nominations, and seconds. If you want to state why someone would/wouldn't be good for a job, do that at the elections meeting.

Thanks!

gee thanks

I'd like to nominate Jesse Cranston (kylite) for Operations

and second Meagan Duncan for Ops, because I know she can function on no sleep a lot nicer than I can, she's honest with me and there when I need her.

Jaz,

She was seconded, and accepted the nomination already... no need to second if they're already on the list. =P

staze... why has jess shelton not been added to the list for ops?

If you look, I just added him (as in, I added him right when you were posting that message). Somehow I missed it... and I just now found his acceptance email. doh!

As a request... things like this, could you please PM or email me, rather than asking here. I'll get the message quicker that way, and it doesn't turn into a public flogging. =P

Due to events beyond my control I have not been able to respond to this or the other election threads. It is my unfortunate job to decline my nomination for Operations director. I have two reasons for this. One Ryan will remember, Two years ago I told him that if we ever hit 5k I would quit.....4470 :o The other reason is due to my school schedule is one of many field trips due to my bio classes (almost one every week) sorry to say but my education is more important than the con. This is not to say I won't be around however to help out and I will be trying to start a fan club on lcc campus come help me out if you are in the area.
