Hopefully this weekend my friend Kiwi and I will be making dressforms for our next cosplay. I'll need one. Other than that, I can't really do much.

Huzzah! As a present from my mother she's going to be giving me her sewing machine for my birthday so I can make costumes at my college apartment. I'm so glad I can keep working on things diligently so I don't fall behind. I'm not getting it until the weekend after next though.

95% done with supply acquisition for.  Resin and associated moldmaking supplies can wait, because it's not like I have anywhere in my apartment right now that I could work with them anyway.  However, 20 yards of fabric and two pounds of dye and a few other things are on their way, as are all the cabochons I need to make the primary rosary cross for Kaya.  Whee!  (And my bank account is hurting a lot. T_T )

Got the ruffle sewn onto my hoopskirt over the weekend.  It needs to be hemmed and the top edge serged, and then I can move on to butchering the petticoat to remake.  Underpinnings first, THEN actual clothes.  Also working on bits of Wonderflex work -- boot armour and armband bling at the moment.

I'm very glad I have until Sakuracon before any of my stuff has to be done.  I'll need it!

(And in the meantime, I need to figure out what to use to cut 8-10oz leather with ...)

Out of curiosity myalchod, what are you going to use resin for?

Yeah and I was wondering if you would be able to go tonight instead of tomorrow. I need to take a stat quiz and I didn't think two hours was enough time to learn an entire chapter so I am going to put it off till tomorrow and would be taking it after dinner >_>

So far some friends and myself have been thinking about a Fate/Stay Night group.
I would be Caster, but as of right now, it is just in the concept stage.  :D

I was really excited though, I was going through Halloween stuff today, and I thought I found the perfect wig, then I put it on and my heart broke.  :-\

Out of curiosity myalchod, what are you going to use resin for?

Mostly the umpteen billion arrows that are the bane of so many a Trinity Blood cosplayer's existence. :D  I might use it for some of the other detailing on that outfit, and I'm thinking about testing resin-dip to reinforce my poor abused Minazuki's scabbard fittings for next year -- with the theoretical drying speed of QuickCast, it's definitely viable.

I used a little bit this year for the belt pieces for my Risai cosplay, but those were small enough that I could use EasyCast.

Could you use resin to make costume armor?  It's for a cosplay someday far in the future, but I can't help thinking about it.  I'm hesitant to use fiberglass for obvious reasons, but that plastic stuff that a lot of people use in conjunction with craft foam doesn't seem thick enough.  Papier mache would probably work, but is vulnerable to water, and I'd want the armor to be very durable and last a long time.

As in plate armour?  I wouldn't think so, because with resin being a liquid you're usually pouring it into a mould and waiting for it to set.  The only way I think it might work would be as some sort of brush-on layer over plastic/craft foam, if you were using quick-cast, and I haven't enough familiarity with the stuff to be able to even guess as to how that'd work.  Resin's also not the cheapest thing out there.

If you're leery of other things, you could always go the Wonderflex route.  Especially if you're working with curves -- the stuff is awesome. :3  I know a lot of Toribla cosplayers use it for the shoulder pauldrons.  It's also pricy, admittedly, but good stuff.  Sintra's another thing I've heard mentioned in conjunction with armour, and depending on the stuff, leather's always a go.

Can't find my sandpaper, so smoothing out boot-armour wonderflex for Kaya is on hold.  Probably go pick that up after work Monday, so I don't have to make a crosstown trip just for Home Despot.  Got the bloomers done (wore them to work Friday, and everyone squeed over how cute they were), which was a trial -- handsewing that lace makes me worry about the sheer size of my skirt hem and the three-plus rows of lace I'll be tacking on to that.  Hopefully get the hoop ruffle finished up tomorrow, assuming I'm awake at all. T_T  And CLEAN, so I have space to cut fabric, now that I have pretty much everything I need.

Got a friend to agree tonight to paint the glove for my Risai cos.  Now, to find as long of a matte-finish black or flesh-toned glove as I can ...  (Anyone got any ideas on where to look?  Everything I find is all shiny satin, and that makes me very sad.  The best would be finding something like heavy nylon stockings -- I think that'd give a pretty good base for something that'll look like FUBARed skin -- but I've never seen anything like that in any substantial length.)

I also need to get some work on my Christmas Albel done. I have the skirt already made and all I have left is to buy white stockings...and possibly white gloves. Alter the shirt, make the belt, and finish up the collar bell thingy. It should take too much time but it is getting closer and closer to the x-mas party with every passing day, not to mention that I have classes I need to study for x.x
